Yeah Gattaca was okay. But genetic and biological engineering have so many limitations. Biological life can only become so perfect, intelligent, or strong. I saw that movie a long time ago, but I don't remember much presence of AI or artificial life in it.

Any realistic portrayal of the future would have to include the reality that computers will become far more intelligent than we are, and once those computers can walk, talk, and interact with the world as we can (ie. androids), we will inevitably become all functionally obsolete.

For a while, we will be the caretakers of the computers and robots. If civilization doesn't end along the way, then like in the movie A.I., eventually the computers and robots will become our caretakers in turn.

Gattaca was about biological engineering and the "human spirit" to overcome limitations, so I think it underplayed the technological reality of what a non-apocalyptic future will actually be like for effect.
