Are you the only one amongst your friends who's balding?

I'm the only one out of my group of friends. All of my close friends have ridiculously thick hair and we're all around the same age (19-20). No one ever says anything about it to my face thankfully. I don't know if anyone says anything at all, but it does bother me.

It doesn't help matters that my best friend is like Ferris Bueller in the fact that he can pull off just about anything...and I'm kind of stuck as Bueller's best friend Cameron. Its bad.

Some days are better than others though.

Of my friends I'm one of 4 other friends balding in my group of friends. Most of my friends arn't balding yet. I have been able to maintain my hair and thicken it up though since treatments. I have even mentioned my treatments to 2 friends and they jumped on them. I've learned not to really care anymore about how I look around friends, I mean if your friends don't except you who will.

Oh man, this is one of the most painful things about it for me. Out of about 6 of my close friends only one of them has any sign of losing his hair, and really the way his is going it looks so much like a masculine hairline its really not that bad. My hair is just getting worse and worse and I'm always the one person at the party who looks so much older. It really crushes self esteem and my ability to socialize.

If I'm completely honest, I'm the only one of all my circle who's losing there hair. And I'm talking 10-15 of us. From ages 18-30. It kinda sucks. I mean they all are like NW1-NW1.5 and possibly NW2, POSSIBLY. And it sucks to be the only one with hair loss. Most of them are kool and never bring it up or make a big deal out of it but there has been an occasion or 2 where one of them were an a**h** and said something about it, and one time it happened in front of a group of girls.

I think my case is borderline in its bad luck:

Paternal cousins: eight male cousins, I am the ONLY one who inherited my grandmother's baldness gene. All the others are NW0 except a NW1.5

Maternal cousins: five male cousins, one with NW4, all the others are NW0 or 1

Workplace: six male colleagues; a NW2 (at 50), five NW0, me

I think that one of the issue with us balding people is that - in its aggressive forms - it is much less common than media and misinformed people would let us believe.

Don't go there King Reggie!

best friend NW0 at 40
second best friend NW1-1.5 at 41
greater circle of friends:
two NW0, one NW1.5

I am a Norwood 5 "transpanted" to NW2.5 -3 so I definitely stand out

Man, this thing is NOT so common before 50, come think of it!

Not really, but most of them are either relatively unconcerned with their appearance or too delusional to notice how big of a hit their looks took.
Either way, I've nothing to discuss with them. I'm mostly surrounded by blue-pillers anyway, so I let them be; at least they might last long enough to see a cure. Go figure.

I do regularly catch two of my balding friends checking out my combover though (probably comparing). Can't see them ever bringing it up in conversation.

Yeah, it really isn't. It's only thought of as common because statistics consider even the slightest recession as "experiencing some degree of hair loss by the age of xy".
Just the other day I was out about town and noticed a helluva lot of 50+ yo fullheads. I can't imagine what life must be like when you've never ever - even for a second - had to think about hair loss. Damn.

If you're under 30 and balding then you're in the minority. At age 40 it's more common, after 40 it's pretty prevalent among caucasians.

I'm the only one out of my good friends who is balding. My brother and some more distant friends are balding though, and they went on the meds/hair transplant route before I did. In my current workplace I have more hair loss than anyone under 40 (i'm 29), but theres a couple of guys in their mid 40s and 50s with more hair loss than me.

The **** thing about male pattern baldness striking young is that you are in the unlucky minority.

It's quite common for caucasians in their fourties to have a minor degree of recession, and thinning. However NW5-7 not so much. These are generally premature baldies (teen-early twenties) in the future.

I am the only one of my friend circle who is bald....I am the only one in my family who is bald at young age...

It's very rare in India to see young bald man...very rare..

One example..is

Here, there is system of printing biodata of marriageable guy candidates in a particular book..
In that book about 200 male guys are their..
Of which only 2 are bald..

I am not taking receeding fellows here,if considered, their are only 10/15...

The book publishes in Jan every year...
I never seen guys more than 3/4bald guys in such book...never..

I once researched one matrimony site in India..jeevansathi dot com..
And went to see my caste grooms..

I scanned about 50 pages and saw only 2 were bald.....

Life's good...

And when I mean friends, I mean that close-knit group of about 7 guys or less. So friends who aren't that close to you don't count.

Of my close-knit group, I'm the only only who's showing signs of male pattern baldness and I must say that it SUCKS! They don't really bug me about it because I buzz my hair and the treatments have kept it from getting too noticeable, so I guess I'm thankful for that. But it just kills me to think that I'm the token balding dude in the group. I mean, when I used to look at rock bands back in the day and see that one balding/bald guy, I'd think to myself, "ha! must suck to be that guy!" Fast forward to the present, and now I'M that bald drummer! Karma's a b**ch ain't it. And thinking back to that, I must say that I was pretty ignorant and naive to think that I wasn't gonna go bald even though my maternal grandfather was a nw6/7 for as long as I can remember.

Anyways, my group consists of six guys and I just can't believe not one of them is showing signs of male pattern baldness (not including myself obviously)... and we're all in our mid 20's. It also probably won't be so bad if I were the funny one, the successful one, the best looking, or the socially gifted one.... but I'm none of these. Well I guess I could be referred to as the smart one, but that's only speaking in relative terms considering everyone else in my group isn't really, eerrrr, academically gifted (lol, those hair-boys won't read this so I have nothing to worry about). But that could also work against me because then I could be referred to as the balding-nerdy one. Okay, I'm just babbling now so:
End Rant.

So what's your situation like with your close friends? Are there others sharing in your sorrow? Or are you like me and just dread playing the role of the token bald friend?

Yes, only friend. Went from best looking in the group to boat hull scum. Only sibling as well. Just recently saw my cousins who I Havent in YEARS, like since we were kids and they are full on NW7. My sis has the thickest hair ever and shes my half sister. My supposedly "full blood" brother has even thicker hair than my sis..... now isnt that odd????

Time to have a chat with mom?

I have, its been denied and there is no fatherly DNA left to run tests. Me and him (my brother) talked about it while the old fuk was still alive but I always chickened out because I knew Id have a nervous breakdown if I was the only FULL BLOOD part of that clan. Id probably just move far away and never talk to anyone in my family or friends again. Which would stink because I do like my sis.

No, from my school class (~15 males) there are at least 3 were NW3+ in their 18 besides me. It not really rare, maybe 15% before 20y and 40% before 30y.

And funny coincidence - they are all "lack of confidence", not popular among girls, not social and lurking imageboards.
