There's no denying Finasteride sides are understated - i see the majority of people who start treatment report back with the loss of morning wood.

I sometimes question myself how many sides i am really experiencing from taking Finasteride these past 5 years, as i cant really remember how i felt before taking the drug and compare it to how i am now.

But i know for a fact that these past 5 years taking the drug have been more than worth it. The depression i felt when i was 18 and losing my hair was horrible and i am glad that finasteride allowed me to enjoy my youthful years without worrying about hairloss. It also allowed me to come to terms with the fact that i suffer for male pattern baldness and i cant hold onto my strands forever. I was lucky to experience no major sides and i know this is not the case for everyone.

I wish there was a better treatment out there, my original thought process when i started was that i was going to suppress my DHT for 5 years and switch to one of the new treatments that were "5 years away"... But 5 years later im still in the same boat and stuck taking propecia.

Are you afraid of ever quitting finasteride because of the infamous 'crash'?

Im not afraid, i plan on quitting one day (potentially when im trying for kids or if an effective replacement treatment comes out) - for now im content taking it and when i eventually quit i wont think about any crashes that may occur.

If you fear things before they've even occurred its more likely to happen - gotta keep that positive mental attitude.

Lol at the usual suspects trying to defend fina with their life because they're so hopeless in their fight against hairloss.

"S..s..shut up, don't wanna hear it!"

"M..maybe he was already depressed"

No idiots, as the article stated. Results of these studies have been altered/withheld. Merck has a very shady past too, this is no surprise. (check Vioxx)

You hopeless balding idiots will keep on rationalizing the chances of getttin side effects to help you cope with the reality that fina is poison. In the long run you will talk differently.
I would agree to not fully trust Merck's studies, but it is known hair loss is caused by androgens launching hair follicles' miniaturization process.
You mind those sides, I can tolerate them if I ever have them. Although it would suck, hair loss will affect me much more negatively than those sides. I am not neglecting those sides, I am simply stating I dont mind them compared to loosing my hair at 18 for fucks sake.

Of course he is insulting you. You let him no choices.
You are keeping your head in the sand about fina. The sides are real, and not as rare as it is stated. And you are reproaching him to go berserk, agressive and emotionnal but you are the one who did it in the first place, by taunting people who are reporting sides, or finding excuses for this guy suicide to exonerate Finasteride, because you want and you need to be convinced it is safe to a certain level to keep taking it. Rationnal in a certain way but still pathetic.

I mean look at @Hairicane , " i need it to maintain my sanity" ….. come on please, you are weak and you recognize it at least, but don't discredit other users who went mad on this drug just because you did not.

Look at @StevenGerrard who can't even read the article but still react the dumbest possible way. Look how dismissive his comment is, all your questions have answers in the article, how come you can write but can't read. But you did not read it entirely you don't want to believe it. Also weak.

Not talking about @petersonKj, who has probably zero medecine notion but still try to give lessons to people, since he is still lurking on this forum 24/24 letting his life sink into depression for years just because he is under the average height. I mean guys, look who is on your side, look who discredit as well people who get sides, you have the same way of thinking as this delusionnal kid. Dude please stop posting random agressive bullshit or i ll destroy the little self esteem you have left, and you already know it can be done with words on forums, since you are permanently complaining about reddit threads making you insecure about yourself.

So what, people get sides, why do you give them zero credibility, accept that some get absolutly no sides, majority, and others get life changing sides, minority but it does happens. Are you that much insecure ? (not talking to you Peterson here, because everybody know you are)

Prostate cancer progresses because of hormones activating the AR, the same way hair loss progresses. Both are not exactly the same, but are similar.
Test and DHT are both androgens, DHT is the most potent one. You can explain it this way: people who have deficiency in 5AR reductase dont loose their hair because T is much less powerfull than DHT. DHT makes you "fall", and T makes you jump on yout broken legs after you "fell". DHT attacks the hair follicles with the most damage, somehow launching the miniaturization process which continues even if DHT is blocked, like people who take duta and still loose hair. This way of thinking is not necessarly true, but T and DHT are both androgens, and you must be dumb to not consider that T participate in the miniaturization process.

As to blocking all androgens, you can, relatively safely as well. You can just block thr androgenic characteristic of the receptor. Assuming you hit puberty long ago, this would affect you severly. You will get some sides, which probably you wont tolerate them, but I am ready to get these sides (which can be solved) and keep my hair for my whole life.

dam this is the definition of a non-alpha male.

Now that we're on this topic, when do finasteride side effects show? Like how long should you be taking it for the side effects to show, if someone were to get its side effects?

How do we know what happened to John Plaff wasn't due to something else? That it wouldn't have happened anyway? Is there evidence it was due to finasteride?

Why is it always guys taking it for baldness that have trouble? Millions take it for their prostate and those guys seem to be fine, as far as I know.

I hope these people don't screw around and Merck stops making Propecia. I need it to maintain my sanity.
Because people who take it for baldness are otherwise healthy. People who take it for BPH start at a different base, where the risks are mostly worth it because ut takes the misery out of their life.

I don't even know if it's working for me but I swear id go crazy if I thought I had no chance of preventing baldness.

It's also strange that dutasteride is stronger but you hear of no lawsuits there. I guess since it's an off label hair loss treatment the plantiff wouldn't have a case.

Money grab, imo.
A lot less people use duta for hair loss

yes ! it could be clearly anecdotal for this guy...

but you can't claim ''anecdotal'' when the same report come from thousand and thousand..

And i definitely don't believe at all that taking finasteride would make a man kill himself lol.

The ''suicide thing'' come from the ''ricochet aspect'' that can come with the drug : libido, sex, erection, etc

Getting hard erection and pleasing a woman sexually is how a male see himself. Actually reproduction is probably the strongest aspect in DNA of males (animals and human).

So yeah i definitely believe that a man let's say for the past 3 years could not get a decent and long erection and can not please any woman could ends his life.

And i one saw the stat about the age group of people taking proscar for prostate cancer and it is mostly men in their 60s - 70s.. their libodo and erection are already mostly gone lol.. so we can't take this aspect.

And for the ''millions of millions and millions'' of people taking finasteride as a lot of people claims.. I really know where this is from.. actually the % of 18-99 + years old balding men taking the drug is extremely low :

some example :

in france every year : it concerns 30 000 men
in sweden : 15 000 men

The % must be really close in others developped occidental countries

Those millions and millions and millions... If you fo a rough math bases on how much Merck made from Propecia only divided by the cost of the pill, you'd yield about 6 to 6.5 millions users worldwide. Add to that people using generic and proscar divided in quarters and I guess you can double that number. So about 12 millions worldwide?

I've always said that the younger you are when experiencing hair loss, the most difficult it is to cope with it. But also this is the greatest crazyness: it is exactly those 18-22 years olds that are the most catastrophic to all this story because they are the most desperate (rightly so) and are willing to go to extremes to fix this and their undeveloped brains do not have the capacity of discerning the wise thing to do. It"s just a fact.

people like banana blunt are the worst morons on the internet. they have no life as is evident by them writing MASSIVE walls of text, attacking people like a f*****g dog, constant rage and why? (...)they build up this entire framework as part of their personality that makes them spook around on all kinds of forums, look at his last post to realize that he is not a balding mans friend(or anyone for that matter)

Ok you are definitely talking to yourself. Was worried for a second that you were actually accusing SOMEONE ELSE of this haha.

It's been ling known that brains do not fully develop until about 25 years of age and recently that's being pushed further into late 20s.
Don't compare the 20s with the 60s.

If your life suck because your prostate is malfunctioning and is taking away from your wellness, you are 60 and had a full life already, you probably don't care that your dick is not the flag pole in the morning, that you don't feel like banging every woman on sight, that your dick is not randomly stiff or that you only get a solid erection now and then. I am guessing that the fact that you pee right amd maybe won't die because of a malfunctioning prostate makes all the above acceptable. H nce why not so many BPH patients complain about it compared to male pattern baldness patients. But when yiu are in your 20s, 30s, 40s and have no issue (well other than hair loss) and you end up with above mentioned sides only from trying to stop hair loss, then life all of a sudden sucks.

Thats not how those studies work though. They have an actual survey to do and all men’s dicks were working prior to the study. So if someone gets sides it will get noted
Did you read my post well? It was all about weighing benefits vs risks. And this changes according to what affects your quality if life.

Also, it is much more 'normal' and 'accepted' for a 60 years old to have some issues in their sexual performance. Some may already have it before treatment. But it is not that normal and accepted for a 20 years old to go through this.

Look! All of us here are here for one reason: we are facing hair loss and would rather find a way to halt it. And this is probably the only common denominator. From here on everyone has a different opinion and approach.

The thing that bothers me most is that when someone stands up and says "dudes, I've been trying this and this is what happened to me" there's a category of people that instantly attack them. Instead of appreciating the gesture and then do whatever they please, they feel obligee to defend the pill and spill sh*t on whomever has anything bad to say about the pill. That sure denotes some level of insecureness. Hair losers are some if the meanest b****s I've seen. Is that abside effect of male pattern baldness?
