Hi all

So I took some pics of my crown today , first two in my car infront of windscreen with sun shining through and then then last one is literally two seconds later where I leant out of the car and took it outdoors in sunlight …

Is it crown thinning or the fact that hair can appear thinning on the crown naturally ? Please help .

aged 34 going on 35

Looks like thinning but so miniscule that there's no point worrying about it, you're 34 and have better hair than 17 year olds on here.

If you're turning 35, I think before it becomes anything noticeable (if indeed it is thinning), isn't worth any regime and the side effects you may or may not get from that.

Considering it's the crown and so minor, using Rogaine/Minoxidil alone would be enough to control it for sure.

Yeah I'd say your balding. Female type alopecia. No I wouldn't try minoxidi. I would go straight to finasteride and give it a year and see if it improves. That's really the best course of action.

Also I’m already on finasteride, was on 0.5mg daily for 4 years and upped in to 1mg daily two months ago when I noticed an increase in thinness at the back ….

Might be going through a shed, just stick with it and give the new hair time to thicken up. Can bet multiple cycles. 1mg is more potent. Looks like you maintained on .5 tho. I bet you would've lost alot more hair w/o it. Gl

I did think this actually when I first noticed it … it didn’t seem to follow the pattern of friends and family who have lost their hair as it seems to be thinning not around the crown but at the top point of my head … odd

This was yesterday with the hair styled and a bit of wax in lift lighting …

now if not styled and washed taken in lift lighting the crown looks badly thinning … lift lighting can be a killer

Your hair is excellent @Adam124. You are just seeing scalp where the hair changes direction, perfectly normal, especially when you contrast dark hair against light skin - throw in lighting and camera exposure and the difference in contrast shows up even more. You will see this exact same attribute in children and women. Plus your hair looks very healthy.

if you are losing hair you will notice a loss in density across your entire crown, not just where the hair naturally changes direction.

You’re very kind however I don’t think my hair is excellent .

Unfortunately there is a general lack of density in the crown area and I think that’s most visible in the first pics …

The second set of pics in lift lighting is when the hair has been styled and has product in etc so looks thicker .

@Adam124 I genuinely think you have very good hair quality and can’t see any loss in density. The cowlick / whorl area can be like that naturally as hair travels in many different directions.

However you know your hair better than anyone so if you’re genuinely concerned see a derm.

To have a headful of hair like you do at 34/35 suggests your hair has low sensitivity to androgens, which if if you are balding, indicates it will be mild.

Personally I don’t see it.

Is you father bald? Your mother’s father or her brother(s)?

Yep Dad is completely bald , a good Norwood 7. He started to go bald at 27.

Grandad on both sides had hair until they passed and my brother is 3 years older than me and still has his hair …

@Adam124 I think you be fine. If you had the NW7 balding gene it would have been expressed in your 20s.

As other forum members have said, your hair is excellent and I agree. I do not see male pattern baldness.

See a derm if you’re concerned.

All the best
