The original conversation on this thread was about the longevity of music careers in relation to balding. Not coming up a norwood 6. There are tons of guys that baldness did not effect there careers.

And it seems Corgan didn't let himself go only in the music department. He also stopped giving a f-ck about his weight.

Yikes, that Billy guy does not suit the bald look. He looks like a cancer patient (sorry). No wonder he's become so bitter.

It really did mess with Corgan's looks big time when he went slick.
He must of looked around at all his peers (those with nice long hair) and been totally piyssed at his predicament.
Freds right again.

And I don't care if Bowie has just passed... He was one lucky son of a b**ch.
If he was bald in the early days he just would of had a niche following of hardcore fans because, yes, musically he was very talented.
But, it was definitely his image that played a LARGE part in capturing the publics imagination.

In terms of only longevity I posit that losing a substantial amount of your hair, even after you've had a medium amount of success as a rockstar, can damage and even ruin your career. Yes, there are some exceptions for some stars, but the bulk of the guys who lose their hair see a decline or total loss of their careers after they lose a substantial amount of hair. And for the entry level guys I don't think you have to be damaged all the way to NW6 to be denied entry into the rockstar business. I think early - mid NW3...definitely late NW3 could keep you from getting into the rockstar business.

So again I still disagree with the gist of your point and you are definitely the one who's wrong and everyone knows it except you.

I agree with you. I was surprised when someone complained about us talking about how hair helped David Bowie's career.
I have no idea why there should be anything wrong with talking about David Bowie's hair insofar as it helped him in his career.
And I do believe it helped him in his career. Yea, he was talented but his image was also a big part of what he was and hair
was a big part of his image. I can't imagine Ziggy Stardust ever happening if he had been a bald guy.

For Billy Corgan, it was the beginning of the end after Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

He appeared bald on stage for the first time after this album was released, so he wrote the songs while still having (thin) hair. At least he saw himself with hair in the mirror.

After that, the album Adore was not as good, and he may have had the ideas for the some of the songs on that album when he still wasn't sporting a bald head.

Just look at the album ratings:

http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/the_smashing_pumpkins

As the years passed, he gradually "lost it" (sorry for the pun).

Now his albums are just awful, and on top of it, he's a bitter dickhead in all his recent interviews, talking about how he's the best and people cannot see it, and how other musicians are crap.

Now look at David Bowie's career:

Except for that period in the 80's during which he admitted he just didn't give a f-ck, his career remained quite great all along, until the very end.

And you know what else remained quite great until the very end. This is no coincidence in my opinion.

I was just watching a repeat of That Metal Show. Billy Corgan was on it and they goofed on him for his baldness. Something about playing on a hot summer's day and his head being all red and sunburned.

Is Billy Corgans career slide because of hairloss or because of the material he was writing? I do know in the late mid to late 90s though Corgan had some success and was completely shaved at that point. My first exposure to him was when he was bald and they were still popular. Longevity in music really comes down if you can adapt your style to what is popular at the moment in my opinion. Also Billy Corgan compared to David Bowie isn't really a fair comparison. Theres tons of guys whos careers went to **** and they had great heads of hair, like basically everyone from the 80s.

It would be interesting to compare the list of music stars( Big Stars Bowie, McCartney vs Guys like (Elton John, Billy Joel,)/ career longevity in relation to hairloss.

I give Elton props for appearing like this. I wonder what made him start wigging it. I bet he got botched plug job in the 80s.
