False I believe, based on a few points. If you view the 10 year Finasteride trial, they had all types of Norwood and ages. 9/10 maintained over a 10 year period. If that's not enough, take into account the number of aggressive cases on the forum. Remember the forum will have the worst cases, the rare male pattern baldness sufferers that are like 2% of all Androgenetic Alopecia cases. Yet how many of them have got on finasteride ( while thinning in a Norwood 6 pattern in their early 20s) and been bald 2 years later? Have you seen any pictures? Personally I haven't because it doesn't happen. I believe you're spot on in that it's a losing battle for them on finasteride, they will continue to lose hair but not that quickly.
A few cases I know in real life of people on finasteride and thinning in Norwood 6/7 pattern in their youth. A decade later they still have their hair, it's thinner for sure though. But a decade is a significant time especially when in your prime - they also didn't take finasteride early enough either. Going bald in 20s versus 30s, still a big difference. The option of hair transplants and saving native hair with finasteride will give them a respectable amount of hair even if it's not full head. No finasteride for them = game over in mid 20s. Other members in their family who didn't use finasteride or have access to it (Dad, brothers) were finished in their early 20s.
I understand your reasons for not trying finasteride but hypothetically lets say you had attempted to. Your situation would be better now. You would have more hair than both your transplants combined, add in those two transplants, you may have a decent head of hair. And your case was on of the most aggressive known, so it shows the impact that finasteride could have had. Remember year by year, the difference in hair counts between those who take finasteride and those that don't, continues to increase. It's really not easy replacing native hair, which is why medication is so important if one values his/her hair.
