If I remember correctly, they shaved his temples to make him look older and more stressed in ER. But he probabbly IS on finasteride and other treatments.
An yes, apparently most people go grey or bald. Or straight white hair. My father wouldn't go full gray until his 60's, but zero hairloss as well.

He appears to have white skin on his temples in the 3rd and 5th photos so he may have really shaved them for a role. Not trying to refute any other points btw.

This is likely the case when there is a correlation without causation. This paper suggests that greying is associated with active hair growth, so, if you aren't going to go bald, you will likely go grey. There are some lucky ones who don't go either, I know a couple of examples who didn't grey even in their 80s, one of them being Russian actor Georgy Vitsin, though in case of him being an actor I can't be 100% sure.
