According to the information by FDA (medplus-site), it's not wise to have sex (with a reproductive goal in mind) when on finasteride. See the last section of the information below i copied from the FDA site:

What side effects can this medication cause?
Although side effects from finasteride are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

impotence (inability to have or maintain an erection)
decreased libido (interest in sex)
decreased volume of ejaculate (amount of semen)
What storage conditions are needed for this medicine?
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

In case of emergency/overdose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

What other information should I know?
Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain lab tests to check your response to finasteride.

Do not expose your female sexual partner to your semen. Use condoms or stop taking this drug (after talking to your doctor) if your partner is or plans to become pregnant.

Do not let anyone else take your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

Holy sh*t man, I knew a pregnant woman should even be close to the drug, but it affects the semen as well?

If I plan to have kids in the future, when should the drug be stoped?

The child will be an evil motherfucker. At month 7, you should start seeing the horns in the ultrasound. If no horns after month 8, then you're cool.

Besides, aren't these question something that should be asked to an obstetrician? Or look up some offical information from the FDA instead of asking some random-unqualified people on a message board. they only got birth defects in baby monkeys when giving the mothers 1000x the normal dose of finasteride,also there is no case of birth defects in humans from taking finasteride
i think there is a risk just a very small one 0.0000001% chance of something happening becouse of finasteride, i would be more worried if she was drinking or smoking or living on junk food, anyway cant hurt to till the midwife that you use finasteride

My sister is going to have a baby any day now, and it is a male. The baby is doing fine. She discussed this with a specialist since her husband is on finasteride. Long story short, it is a non issue. Everything at certain high doses is harmful to babies.
