You're missing the point, plausibly because you like to argue.
I actually knew the people I was referring to, the ones in the engineering program. I spent a year there, they weren't just a group of people on a different floor that I heard about from a friend of a friend of a friend but never actually interacted with, as is the case with you and the traders. It's also relevant to That Guy's comments as he works in an adjacent field.
As for the traders, you reveal your own ignorance of the world by presenting such a dim example. You assume that "they do cocaine" is somehow an argument against intelligence or intellectuality, when in fact it's understood by anyone with a clue that plenty of very smart people do hard drugs. It's actually mundane for brilliant, hard-working people top do hard drugs. Further, I actually know people who have gone into finance. I don't mean people that I've seen on the elevator, people whom I heard "do cocaine" (oh no oh no oh no that's so naughty), I mean I know actual people who have gone into finance, trading, investment firms, etc. They don't fit your description at all -- I know for a fact that they are mostly obviously intelligent. I see those guys outside of work and they do not come off as "a**h** idiots", the fact that you think so demonstrates your own lack of knowledge.
