Just Came Back From A High School Reunion

Sorry gotta vent. Just came back from my 10 year high school reunion at a bar and feeling like crap.

Only ONE guy there out of 40 to 50 was higher than a NW2 (he shaved his head and grew a huge beard). This is late thirties mind you.

Meanwhile I'm there completely hairless having to explain to everyone where all my hair went. Thank god I put on some fake eyebrows so I looked somewhat human once again.

I could tell people didn't like my new look though - all I got were looks of confusion and disgust. Baby face + bald = not a good combo. I had few drinks then left early.

Sorry to hear about that. It's not easy returning to a place when you've lost a lot of hair. Especially people
who knew you before you even started balding.

That sucks doesn't it? You know that feeling when you haven't seen someone in quite a long time and they look at least as good, if not better than before? And then you think "oh nice, he/she's still got it". And if they've gained weight / lost hair / look worse for any other reason then it's like "Oh, damn, poor he/she, used to look so good, now look at him/her".

And then when it's about you, and you know you'll be meeting some people you haven't seen in ages, you want to impress, like show off how much you've improved in your life, you have all the sh*t together. Going there with hair loss or bald it's just like yeah, no matter what else you've done in the meantime, everyone be like "Oh look at him, lost so much hair, bald now huehuehue".

Eh f*** that. I rather not go if that were the case.

Sorry to hear you had a bad night, mate.

What you said about getting those looks thrown your way, I can relate to.
It's the look of disgust that really gets my blood boiling.

Man that blows. When I read the title of this thread I totally anticipated reading a post about how all the women were digging your new look and how you ended up in a threesome(two women, one dude. Forget the threesomes with two guys). You mean to tell us that nobody was impressed with all of the success you have had since you graduated? I am shocked.

That's what I was expecting I went there as well! :D

Unfortunately, I think my appearance change was so drastic that it distracted from whatever I was saying (I used to have really thick, dark hair so going from that to bald makes a huge difference).

Oh well, at least I know for sure now that baldness doesn't suit me at all.

You have to go because you never know... Anything can happen when you put yourself out there. Sure I would be the first to say that it sucks putting yourself in situations where you have the potential to get crapped on. But you also have to look at it another way. Usually at parties and other get togethers there is drinking involved. Many women have made mistakes when having too much to drink. As a bald man you have to think if you put yourself in the right situation, you have the opportunity to be somebody's mistake.

Sadly you are probably right FootsyStar, when you proclaim that baldness will never suit you.
As far as I can see, mine will never suit me either,
but let me spend a moment my friend to tell you what really suits you -
and that is your courage to put yourself "out there", literally naked
under the merciless spotlight of social scrutiny.
Especially in the style and grace that you do so on a daily basis, rather than regressing into the sniveling, spineless imp
hair loss is turning me into little by little..
I'll tell you something else that really suits you and that is your great and charitable heart.
I could go on, but I'll come back to this later and finish by saying I'd be a liar
if I told you that your real story and zeal for life no longer continues to confound and astound me.
You suit this community perfectly well.

Indeed it was a ballsy move to show up like he did. I have avoided old friends for years because of hair loss. Last time my old friends saw me I was rocking a cool hair style. How could I show up with the rats nest I have on my head now. Yeah thanks but no thanks.

Yeah thats why it sucks so bad balding in your early 20s. Literally everyone you know knew you before you started balding. One day you have a full head of hair, the next day its all gone.

Thanks again for the supportive words ID - you really know what to say to make people feel better. :)

This community definitely been a real lifeline for me and I'm sure many others. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Good for you for going man.

I wouldn't have the guts with my hairloss. My life has forever changed.

Entering hermit mode.

Thanks Notcoolanymore and KO21.

Baldness is a certified social life killer if you can't pull it off. :(

I wouldn't have the guts, either.

Sorry dude, I know the feeling of being looked at in disgust all too well. I rarely go out in the evenings and I avoid social situations if I can.

Thanks Dante. Same here, despite trying to think positive the world constantly reminds me of my place whenever I leave the house.

Why did you go to begin with?

I've been avoiding my old friends for a long time as I have been feeling down due to my appearance. However my mental state has been a bit more positive lately due to dieting and working out, so I thought "Why not go, surely they won't react THAT negatively to my new look?".

Yeah right.

Yeah right.

Society will never accept baldness. The sooner you accept that, the more peace you will find.

Does anyone else think balding is on the increase?

I see tons of young men with it.

I think its because people with the male pattern baldness gene go bald sooner because of their stressful lives and poor diets (it just speeds up the process so they are visiby balding in their twenties and not their thirties)

It's possible.

That's an interesting theory.
