Lots of New Info on Follica

I have seen the data of minoxidil also together with the lithium gel from Follica released from the 2nd clinical trial (dermabrasion + compound + hydrogel). The PDF was up a few years ago. The minoxidil did work better, but only very slightly. The lithium gel was nothing special either as they actually do mention in the article.

Now suddenly though they mention;

minoxidil showed a 4x enhancement versus the efficacy of the compound alone

What do they mean exactly by this? Where is the study/data? There is zero evidence presented.

I think they are releasing data in 2017 so I guess we're back to the waiting game, but atleast we have more of an understanding of where they are in terms of commercialization. The results I think we can expect to be atleast better than propecia and minoxidil. The more important thing I think is will it be able to be get more regrowth with every session u go for. That would practically bring back an nw7 to nw1 even if it only creates a low amount of follicles in one session.

If I knew how to rep I'd be repping the hell out of you. You've been doing a damn good job at finding info.

I really appreciate it bro. The appreciation is enough tbh. I was a long time lurker, I just really hate to see how pessimistic people have gotten, especially at such an exciting time. I know at the end of the day no new treatments have been released, but I feel like we are so close, and no ones pessimism is going to deter that. With everything in the pipeline I hope some of this news will bring ppl into the reality that things are changing. Like just within the last month I feel like huge strides have taken place. All this and Tsuji's update mid april, along with Samumed phase 2b info, and Histogen update at the end of the month. I feel like we have even more to look forward to.

Yes thanks for the find. Fairly sure that the mention in this article of Follica is related to it; http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...gy-platform-to-treat-hair-loss-300138225.html.

Can someone find this particular patent?

I tried looking for that patent awhile ago with no luck, but I found this patent that was released a month before the one in question I believe. http://patents.justia.com/patent/20150216934. It talks about applying fgf9 after wounding which is what I think they are currently testing with and going to share results of in 2017. While searching for this patent I actually just realized Cots got another patent under his belt. Its dated febuary 2016, but i think it has to do with Kythera and not Follica since it talks about pgd2. http://patents.justia.com/patent/9254293

Rep = The white hand on the left near "rate post" with the thumbs up.

and I love how it's worded when you rep someone "May you be lucky enough to receive some reputation as well"

Hmm.. What about this one; https://patentscope.wipo.int/search...=&sortOption=&queryString=&tab=PCTDescription

images - https://patentscope.wipo.int/search...&office=&prevFilter=&sortOption=&queryString=

The invention relates to methods of treating baldness, treating alopecia, promoting hair growth, and/or promoting hair follicle development and/or activation on an area of the skin of a subject (for example, a human) by subjecting said area of the skin to integumental perturbation. Integumental perturbation can be used in combination with other treatments for promoting hair growth. The invention provides devices for integumental perturbation for promoting hair growth, and provides pharmaceutical compositions for use in combination with integumental perturbation for promoting hair growth.

Isn't it highly assumable that it's based around this? The device on the picture seems like a dermabrasion apparatus to me? And why minoxidil? Well they can't possibly use a compound that isn't yet approved because they never engaged in a clinical trials to one... So at the very least it has to be a compound that is approved on the market?

Really liked the article. It's good to see they are teaming up with the University of Penn, and using medications to stimulate
and grow new hair.

What is not explained is how would the new hair be different than the DHT sensitive follicles? Because if they are the same, than
what's the point? Eventually they will succumb to DHT and shrinkage like the old follicles did.
That's a great question.

But I'd still be very happy with just getting touch ups every 5 years.

Looks like the dermabrasion is causing the skin to almost, if not definitely form a scab (middle image). That's almost exactly how skin looks like just before scab formation. Can anyone tell how deep the wound/dermabrasion is done according to the 3rd slide in the image above?

This patent is extremely broad. There seems to be lots of methods here, one that sands down your hair 0.1-0.15mm:

In more specific embodiments, integumental perturbation is performed using dermabrasion with an estimated depth of 100-150 microns, a hydrogel is administered to the skin, and minoxidil is administered in the form of 5% minoxidil foam

The needling version:

[00150] In one embodiment, integumental perturbation is accomplished using a microneedle array. In one such embodiment, the microneedle array is in the form of a roller or flat plate. In one embodiment, the microneedle array can disrupt a skin area of 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm to 15 cm x 15 cm. In one embodiment, the microneedle array can disrupt skin at a depth of 100 microns to 4000 microns. In some embodiments, the microneedle array has hollow needles. In some embodiments, the microneedle array top has a luer-lock fitting that can accommodate a syringe to deliver drug. In a certain embodiment, the volume of the syringe is 1 ml to 3 ml.

A laser:

In one embodiment, integumental perturbation by laser treatment is by a fractional laser.

Their official procedure will probably be whichever one causes the least damage to the skin.

To clarify, I mean longterm damage/scarring.

As shown in Table 7 below, all four of the modes of integumental perturbation produced activated hair follicles. Dermabrasion (using the Aseptico Econo-Dermabrader from Tiemann and Company) resulted in the highest number of activated follicles, and among the laser treatment modalities, treatment with fractional laser resulted in the highest number of activated follicles. Exemplary results from the dermabrasion study are provided in Figure 23A-D), which demonstrates hair growth in an area of skin of a subject treated with integumental perturbation by dermabrasion ("DA"). Figure 23E demonstrates the pinpoint bleeding achieved immediately after this modality of dermabrasion. Figure 23F provides an image of the skin's epidermal ridges that enclose the vascularized dermal papillae and can help to illustrate how integumental perturbation, e.g., by dermabrasion to a depth of 100-150 microns, would cause pinpoint bleeding.

The picture in OP his post, seems that is a dermabrasion device to me, not a laser or needling device?

Why so many people experimented with dermarolling instead of dermabrasion or some type of agressive exfoliation ?

I don't want to put the cart in front of the horse, considering how many disappointments we've had over the years; but, i think this is probably the best news we've had on these forums maybe ever. I've been either lurking or a member for over a decade now and have pretty much given up hope at this point. Was holding some in reserve for Histogen, but that's it really.

If they can do 4x the effectiveness of rogaine, that would be incredible and surely could bring somebody back at least a Norwood level or two. I don't think histogen will ever be a reality, but on the off chance they do and we could combine it with a treatment that is 4x better than rogaine??? Then it would be party time!

I don't think anybody knows the answer to that question. I don't like minoxidil myself either, i get extreme bouts of dizziness when i take it. The dizziness usually goes away after a few weeks, but during that time it's horrible. Like being car sick all the time.

What follows is speculations: But, i believe they're using minoxidil just to boost the formation of new follicles dealing the healing phase of the treatment. So it's use would most likely be temporary during the course of the treatment and wouldn't be a necessity afterwards. So, maybe if you could tolerate it for a brief period of time., you could still partake in the treament.

Of course, they've never said they're definitely going with minoxidil. Hopefully, they have something else in the hopper which will give even better results. Who knows??? They're the most secretive operation i think i've come across ever.

I'm thinking of attempting to wound my scalp in my temple down to the point of creating a scab. Just need to find a way to do it... maybe find something like a safe sandpaper.
