Thanx HP, good to be back. My visit went very well, I got to spend alot of time with my daughter. We went swimming and played Crockett at the park. I got to check out the new place that my father and I will be moving to and I love it- it is the exact opposite of the place I'm living at now (which is a good thing). My daughter even spent the night there, so I was able to show her that Daddy will be close by from now on. I went to the local junior college and picked up a schedule and application so I can go back to school when I move out there. I even squeezed in enough time to hang out with my friends, so it was very fulfilling on all accounts. It was tough being away from the forum for that long, but I did a little trolling when I could. Oh s***, I almost forgot. One night, after I put my daughter down to bed and my ex came back from work, she opened a bottle of wine and we just talked for a while. In the middle of our conversation, she gets a call from the new guy. She said that she would have to call him back, but she never did. The next day she told me that when she went to work, new guy said he didn't want to see her anymore because he knew that I was over there and he suspects that we had sex (which we didn't). I told her that I was sorry if I accidentally sabotaged their thing together and she acted like it was no big deal, but I'm sure she probably pleaded with him to reconsider after I left, whatever...

I definitely wouldn't get in the middle of that (the latter part). Let it play out. Cool that you enjoyed yourself. Looks like you are getting over the hairloss part. That's great!
I'm not over it, far from it. When I stepped onto that campus, it was like my worst nightmare actually. Nothing but hip, cool young people- nobody like me. I couldn't bear to walk across that campus without a hat on or be expected to concentrate in class when I feel like people are staring and laughing at me. I would have to wear a hat all the time and for the first time in my life I actually considered getting a hair system, just so I could cope with the social pressure of going back to school. I know going back to school is the right thing to do, but I am absolutely terrified.

What you goin to school for and in one state? Big school or like a state school?

I hear you about that. Have you tried a hair system before? Not sure if it would suit you, as it didn't suit me. Then again, it might. The only problem I foresee when u wear a hat all the time is when U have an exam, some teachers ask you to remove it because many use it to cheat (hides your eyes).

It's a junior college, but by the looks of it it might as well be high school. When you think about it there really is no winning solution, they make fun of you if you're bald, and they make fun of you if you try to do something about it. I could wear a beanie instead of a hat cause it has no brim for the whole test thing.

Hey,

Some people are jerks. My only fear in that situation is my temper. If I don't control it and let it out, it wouldn't be good lol. So you are definitely in a better situation.

If you HAVE TO, you can bandanna it that day perhaps.

I guess I'm just going to have to turn off that part of me that cares what other people think, focus on my schoolwork and just get through it. I'm not a bandanna type guy, so I'm just going to have to get a good variety of cool hats. I'm going for a B.A. degree in digital media, with a focus on 3d animation. An old art school friend of mine is a concept designer for E.A. games. Maybe when I'm ready, I will give him a call.

I think your best option is to just turn up as yourself and act as if its not an issue for you.
Being an older guy thats just how the other students will see you, as a mature student (thats what we in the UK call people who go back into higher education).
Trying to fit in with the youngsters wont work.
Wearing a hat is fine if your just going out to the store and are self conscious, but if your going to be spending alot of time around a group of people (eg in the workmates or in your case classmates) then theres no point trying to hide it you might as well just get it out in the open so to speak. That way people will soon get used to it.

When I studied at University there were a number of mature students on my course. Women and men. A few were balding and one was completely bald. Nobody ever made a comment. Not even as a joke.

I agree, be you, it will be hard to wear a hat for that long. Then when you take it off it will be more noticeable then if you walked in as you are. Good luck on the course.

Thanx for the advice on that. I agree that I can't hide it all the time. I will just have to buzz it on 0 once a week and exercise and work out to compensate. I've been getting out of shape lately. If I am going back to school without the security of my hat, then I don't want to have to feel self-conscious about anything else either, so I need to get in shape.

Yeah I really pray you do. I wouldn't wish what I go through on anyone. You definitely don't want to end up a prisoner to it.

The EA stuff sounds cool if that is what you are interested in. BA in digital medie? If that a full 4 year program?

I don't know how long it is going to take me. I have plenty of credits for my old major. I just have to see how many of them are transferable to my new major. I'll just talk to a councilor.
