And re: the idea of me realizing my youth is gone - I got news for you boys - youth is a state of mind, not a finite period of one's life. You might understand that someday after you've stopped being so "youthful."

jerry grant

True, but there are only certain things that will happen to you when you're young and will never happen again. Banging 16 year olds, driving like an idiot leavin rubber everywhere. Mischief. You cant do this when you're older. You'll look retarded! In a sense, our youth has already passed us by a little!

Ah...Watching the Wonder Years usually makes me feel the mushiness

Gunner, Recedingboy, you need to step back and absorb the wisdom that the big JG is laying down. He never said it was harder, we all know thats not true. He simply said that it can still matter, that it can still affect one's confidence, no matter what age you are. While hair may have more impact in steering the course of your life then to one who's already passed the age of raising a family, how is it wrong for a 57 year old to still want to feel like he looks good? How is it wrong?

Gunner, to say hes selfish by caring about something that does not by any means negatively affect anyone else is fundamentally incorrect. And I would say its selfish of you to bash someone for having a viewpoint that you cannot relate to just to increase your own sense of righteousness..

I'm feelin you, JG. I wanna have hair at 43 too, if I have a choice. Frankly it doesnt really seem so far away.

Youth is not a state of mind, youth is a period of time in one's life when they are YOUNG.

You can try to stay young by thinking young, doing fun things you did in your youth - your mental state of mind may think in a youthful manner but if you're not in your youth then you're not young, period.

*sigh*

mistaking yourself for your physical form is a clear sign of superficiality.

Here's some news. It's a lot more fun to make it with a hot 30 year old than a hot 16 year old. And driving like an idiot makes you what? An idiot of course. As for mischief - well, that can be accomplished at any age.

Dammit flux. Why do you gotta think like that. Superficiality is key to happiness.

Or so these fags wish to think.

If you're not happy without hair... then you weren't happy with it.

Image stops at the skin. Life is what you make of it for yourself. No more..no less.

The problem with that is you can bang either when you're younger . Not the case when you're older

Allow me to translate...

If losing your hair fucks you up beyond what is reasonable, then you were probably fucked up to begin with.

...maybe I was a little f*cked up to begin with, but I'd be a lot happier if I was f*cked up and had all my hair. Besides, who isn't a little f*cked up at 17? I'm 19 now, my hairloss is progressing, and damnit is it devastating. Especially when almost every girl I hit on takes meaningful glances at my hairline. I spend a good portion of every day staring in the damn mirror, wishing I had normal hair, could stop worrying/obsessing about my image and enjoy my youth!

I was talking to my dad about this the other day. He's 58 and still has all his hair. I asked him if he would care if he started to lose it and he said that he would, but he understands that something so trivial wouldn't upset him anywhere near the amount that it upsets someone my age.

There are 4 ways that people judge you: how you look, what you do, what you say and how you say it. When you are in your 20's, how you look is the number one priority. The image of a 20 year old does not leave room for balding, the image of a 50 year old certainly does.

Luther, I feel you man. Unfortunatly it's a very superficial world, and as much as you may not want to be superficial, the world will often view you in that way. Especially when you are young and "healthy".

i totally agree. if the other fellas don't understand that they have issues.

The fact is, AGE DOES MATTER. Why? because when you're 20 and losing hair, like when i started, you dont' see other 20 year olds like that, and thats what makes you feel like crap. Premature hairloss is extremely devastating. its like those young people that have that rare disease where they look old and wrinkly. Do you think that it is just as tough for a 82 yar old to look old and wrinkly as a 16 year old kid with that disease?

go ahead, be 30, 40, or 50, enjoy your life. no one is saying that it isn't hard to deal with, but its certainlly not as hard as when you're really young (for most people). maybe some of you older guys forgot how it is, or never had hairloss at 20, well you wouldn't understand then. Take comfort in the fact that 50% of your friends are bald. I wish I could.

of course i have youth, but i've been in depression for about 3 years now, as a direct result of this sh*t.

what should i recommend him?
Tell him to ask his Doctor for Propecia and about minoxidil. The minoxidil may do nothing at all to his heart. That's where docs blow away forums. As for you young guys that like to say that us 40+ people should not be bothering with our hair.FINE. I say be like the rest of your punk -assed friends and shave your heads! You want to be sooooooooooo like all your friends well do it.it's IN.If anything, you young guys HAVE it MADE in that respect because you are YOUNG.Shaving your heads to look like a bad *** is in so do it.Drive around and PUMP UP your stereos that your PARENTS probably paid for in your cars that your PARENTS probably paid for.You have one rude awakining on it's way when you get older.

i just want to say that not all young guys think like this. i am 21 and the reason i want my hair isn't because of wanting to fit in, hell i have never fit in. either i was too poor, or too ugly or something so i have always been an outsider since i was a little kid. i just want my hair because i want my hair. some might say well there are other reasons, there aren't. i just want my hair, why?? because i feel comfortable with it, when i feel comfortable it doesn't matter to me what others think. i used to have long hair and got alot of sh*t for it, because in my school if you didn't wear the "in" thing or didn;t wear boots, a hat and jeans like the rest of the hispanic people here people think you are a satanist or druggie or whatever, but i got over what others think a long time ago. what matters to me is that i feel comfortable, and being bald doesn't feel comfortable but i have just learn to deal with it little by little.

not all young people leech off their parents. i have gone into pretty serious debt for my age, why??? because i helped my parents, and i do not regret it because i love them and would rather suffer than have them suffer. i have gone through various bouts of illnesses throughout my life and have had it rough i'm not telling you this to try to sound like a tough guy or for pity or a pat on the back. i was just letting you know that not everyone young is spoiled and wanting to f*** every girl in sight and wanting to party night and day. your post sounded to me like you were saying that us young people are like this, and if that is not the case then i apologize and disregard my post. i apologize is this sounds like a bunch of rambling but i didn't really feel like organizing my thoughts or words because i have alot on my mind.

I know most younger guys are not like that. Some just have a shitty selfish attitude.I'm tired of hearing them say it's worse the younger you are.NO sh*t! NO sh*t! Like we have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out guys? I know it's worse the younger you are, just like many things that affect the way you look.Eczema is one. The guy wants to help out his dad and gets this bullshit about how his dad should not worry about it at all?Who the FK is some young guy to tell him this? I may have missed it but I do not think anyone even answered the guys question.

I was a lot like you in my youth I tried like hell to fit in and never could. As for my hair, it always sucked. It has been fine since I was a child and this made it look like hell all the time especially whan I wanted to grow it long to "fit in". I have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks looking at old photos and videos and I have come to the realization that I was losing my hair when I was 30.This was a slap to the head.Since I have always had a high forehead(so does my dad) I always got comments that I was balding.Since I always had fine hair, I always assumed that the problems I had were ONLY because of this and never thought it was from hairloss.I also thought that men only balded from the front or in a bald spot type of deal(ignorant).Seems I had very slow thinning going on and never noticed it until I get a case of Telogen Effluvium that woke my *** up to reality. Now that I know what to look for I see it in the photos and videos and even my wife was shocked to see it.I may very well have been thinning in my twentys but I have no good pictures to look at.I had avoided swimming in my youth because of my hair and that was not hairloss related.

Jerry! You know NOTHING about hairloss. I've been living with it for 9 months. I just turned 25 and your 19 year fight has no relevance to my 9 month battle. Comon man, why dont you just give up and go bald?!

What's funny is that from age 28 to age 42, I didn't pay much attention. I got the plugs 15 years ago, my hairloss slowed and I settled in to concentrate on the rest of my life. It was only when I noticed scalp starting to shine through (again) that I started thinking seriously about other treatments.

I agree 100% that it's harder on the younger guys - it was a lot harder for me way back then than it is now.
