my dad is 57...he's always had a full head of hair but for the past couple of months...hes been complaining of hairloss..i noticed it today as his hair lost some density and his hairline has moved back...

what should i recommend him?

i don't want to give him minoxidil because i've been experiencing a rapid heartbeat every now n then after i apply minoxidil n at his age...i dont want to give him anything that can harm his health just for hair...

Minoxidil is quite benign. If he does experience any heart related flutter, it will be over very quickly and he then can just drop the drug or use 2% instead. This assumes your Dad does not have a severe heart condition or anything.

Also, he can use finasteride with the same caution on side effects that we all post here. And of course, Nizoral is very benign.

If you are freaked about it, of course the doctor is an avenue for him.

Hey, I am 54 and certainly don't view hair loss products are a threat to my health.

Good Luck.

Get your dad on 2%. Try it sparely at first to make sure it's ok. I still use 2% because it's not as hard on my scalp and it with propecia works great for me.

And as far as the sub thread goes, it bothers me much more at 38 than it did at say 21. How can that be you ask? Well it started at 17 and at first I was very much bothered by it but it quickly slowed down and by my mid to late 20's it completly stopped. It never got that bad and quite honesty I had almost completly forgot about it . Then as I was hitting my mid 30's it starts up again almost overnight, only this time it's in the back (vertex). It was much faster and I just couldn't belive I could actually go bald after so many years of having no loss. The timing sucked too. Here I was close to my 20th reunion and didn't want to face a couple of girls who told me towards the end of highschool that the next time they saw me I would have the "ring of shame" growing in the back. They had changed the lyrics to a song by the police. And here it was almost 20 years later and it was coming true and I was frustrated to all hell trying to figure out how they could have possiably known I was going to get a spot considering how thick my hair was back then. I never did figure out how they could have known this but......

All I can say is it's almost a non-issue again thanks to propecia!!!!

propecia+exercise have really turned my life around. I have lost 50pounds over the past year and it feels great. Propecia has given me back hair at my hairline that I have not seen since the early 80's.

Good luck to everyone,
One happy guy
