So here's the deal, I'm 29. I've been dealing with hairloss for nearly my entire 20's. It started at a small temple patch and now has progressed to both temples nearly gone as well as thinning in the back. I decided these past couple weeks it's time to jump on the propecia train and give it a whirl. I will note that I've been on rogaine on and off for years now. Any time that I've stuck with it I would have dozens of hairs sprouting up but i would end up getting lazy and stop. This last time I was on for 6 months and I had great results, now after stopping for about 2 months my hair is much worse.

Anyhow, simply put I have prostate problems. I've been too several doctors who say otherwise but the fact is, I have a weak urine stream and my ejacutaion power isn't there like it used to be. I also occasionally get prostate pain. I've had my Psa levels checked a few times all normal, I've had multiple digital rectal exams (not fun) all say my prostate isn't enlarged. It's basically a mix of BPH and prostitus symptoms. I'll also add I was diagnosed with accute bacterial prostitus when I was younger, I belive 19/20. However after antibiotics that went away. I've never had erection problems I'll add, me and my girlfriend have great sex and I perform fine, I can both mastubate and perform sexually multiple times a day if needed.

So my question is this, given the fact everyone says my prostate is fine and there's nothing wrong would it be safe to try propecia? I know finasteride is used to treat BPH so maybe ultimately it will help with my situation but has anyone on the forums had my similar situation? I already have 90 Walmart generic tabs ready to be taken I just wanted some Input from you guys. I'm not really afraid of sides, but I wanted to know if sides are maybe a better chance given my situation.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give you guys the whole story! Hope to hear from someone, thanks!

btw I've been a super long lurker, I hope to now add to the hairloss community .I know how it is to live with this problem and it's not fun. You guys just reading some story's both good and bad have been a tremendous help to me.

I recommend to talk to your GP or a hair transplant surgeon and have them write you a prescription for Propecia if you want to safely take Finasteride under the supervision of a medical professional. Yes, Finasteride is approved by the FDA and used to treat both BPH and male pattern baldness. The medication has a good safety profile and chances of side effects occuring is minimal, and happen in about 2% of cases. If side effects do occur, you can simply quit the medication and they'll subside. I'd give it a try if I were you.

Thanks for the response Agustin. I was seen by a dermatologist who wrote me a script for propecia, so I do have the script. I even went and got it filled. I was given the generic version of it though. Do you think that is as effective?

Also my GP, last time I seen him he slapped my on my knee and said your fine lol. So not much help from him even given the fact that I've told him a million times Im having trouble urinateing. Any how I think I'm going to just start tonight, I will start by cutting the 1mg in half and I will take for a few weeks to see what happens.

Generic Finasteride is perfectly fine and will be just as effective as the branded name (Propecia) of the medication. Sorry about the last visit with your GP, they didn't seem to have taken you seriously.

Cutting the 1 mg tablets of Finasteride and taking 0.5 mg daily will still be very effective, some men maintain their hair fine with that dose actually.

Thanks again for the reply. I have one other question about dosage. I know.5 is almost as affective but what about .25? I see a lot of guys doing that nowadays. How does one cut the pill for that dosage, Im assuming I cut a 1mg pill into 4?

I suggest you to take Finasteride 1 mg O.D for only few days in a week,,like 1 or 2 days apart after having snacks in morning.Do not cut the drug,as it will ruined its pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, never ever cut a drug. They are bind with scientific methods with calculated t 1/2,so don't play with it,
