you have been without finasteride for almost a month now, do you notice that something is improving?
Sadly, not. I do know that it gets worse before it gets better. The half life for finasteride in the follicles is 30 days. So im aiming for that time line to get lucky and hopefully start to see slight improvement at the 45-60 day mark. Then again almost everyone seems to have the RH symptoms virtually last indefinitely.

my dermatologist told me that there is no connection between oily skin, scalp and finasteride

Well as far as I know, androgens make your skin oilier and finas/dutas raise T. That is why some women take spironolactone. There was no solution for male acne and oiliness apart from accutane, but it has lot of sides, but now we'll have winlevi. That is what I am going to use for my oily skin when it gets released on my country.

I've heard of Winlevi too. however, it will probably take a long time. In which country do you live?

I have seen prices from Winlevi, which costs almost 600 dollars for 60 grams in American pharmacies in the USA. I live in Germany. I can't pay € 500 for this drug, it's sick ‍♂️

Prices must get lower, otherwise no one is gonna buy the product.

Right i hear. I took finasteride for 3.5 months. Stopped on September 25th. Had the classic reflex h symptoms. Just wondering what i should expect going forward…
What brand were you taking?

Generic. I first used keeps then switched to Costco pharmacy.

Based on my personal experience of almost 22 years of finasteride use I would say in my case any accelerated loss and scalp irritation was down to the brand of finasteride I was taking as I have experienced this several times from bunk Indian manufactured finasteride. Many people complaining of problems seam to be first time users. with limited finasteride experience usage. So while reflex hyperandrogenicity may well real, if you are taking Indian manufactured finasteride from companies like intas, I would swap this out first with a US or European Controlled generic, before ruling out finasteride for good. FYI companies like 'keeps' do not make finasteride, they just re label cheap finasteride from intas pharmaceuticals, that was originally formulated for the local Indian market.

I totally here that. In my case I actually didn’t NEED a dht blocker. I have great hair genes in the family. Only took bc i THOUGHT that i saw extra hairs in my brush etc… was obviously once of the stupidest things iv done in my life. Based purely on the genetics.. i don't need finasteride. But if RH changes your sensitivity indefinitely then im in trouble regardless. I also have other RH symptoms such as oily scalp and increased libido. What are your thoughts?

if you suffer from hair loss and take finasteride you are better off staying on it and trying some different brands to see if it makes a difference, and then if you wish to come off it taper off slowly over several months. in your case you have taken it shortly for 3months then abruptly stopped so you are messing with your hormones and not giving them time to adjust by starting and stopping in a short space of time.

in your case if you were not even suffering from hairloss, I don't know, just consult with the doctor that prescribed you it.

I did taper off a little. Took 1mg every 3 days for a few doses and then quit. Been off it for 3 and a half weeks now. My hormones are probably messes up.. im trying to get approval for some bloodwork.

sadly, most doctors don’t really know much. They just prescribe finasteride and tell you the classic side effects. I do have a couple consultations set up with top hair loss doctors from nyc, hopefully they will have some insight. I will definitely give this the best shot that i have… go to as many doctors as possible until someone (hopefully) has an idea of what to do.

Have you seen anyone recover from RH? So far i have only seen 1 person say that they have. It was in a resdit forum. He was on finasteride for 9 months. Had the classic rh symptoms and then at month 9 his hair loss vastly improved. Idk if he continued to have oily scalp though…

Generally if you are experiencing an finasteride induced shed, it would be better not to stop mid shed. If you read this thread at the start they mention they have RH

type into google: Finasteride Reflex-Hyperandrogenicity or a Normal Reaction?

then several months later they seam to be fine. So its difficult to differentiate between a normal finasteride experience and people who claim they have RH, I have no experience with RH so you would be better continuing with the consultations you have set up to see if you can gain some advice from there. In the meantime you could try using some Nizoral left in a long time a couple of times a week, obviously its not going to rebalance your hormones but it may improve the condition of your scalp short term.

Ok makes sense. Thx! I have been using keto (nizoral) shampoo for a couple of years actually. Just for healthy scalp purposes. The part that im scared of is that it is considered an anti-androgen and currently i dont want to touch anything thats related to dht, 5-ar or anti androgens. Trying to totally clear out my system (if possible) and hopefully that will somewhat reset things.

i am totally open to other therapies though: prp , a cell , etc…

i have put aside plenty of money for this so i will go all out if necessary.

Sadly, yes. Only been off finasteride for 3.5 weeks like I mentioned. One doctor that recognizes RH claims that i can recover after 30-60 days, as this is how long it takes for finasteride to clear out of the body. While this seems logical, factually it doesn’t seem that anyone recovers from RH no matter how much time has elapsed.
