Hello all...this is my first time starting a thread so please forgive me if I do anything wrong here. However, I'd just like to vent. I've been lurking here for a long time now. I'm only 20 years old...I just looked in the mirror, brushed my hair around a bit, and to my horror, I noticed just how severe my hairloss has become. My temples are only at norwood 2.5, but I am diffusing ALL OVER the top into what seems like either NW5 or maybe NW6...the hairs have become crooked, light-colored little weeds that stick out in all directions. The backs and sides are quite a bit thicker, and thus I have the classic horseshoe that is starting to become noticeable. I have always struggled with confidence(especially regarding my appearance) and this has just forced me down to rock bottom. I was just beginning to discover my self-worth, and then this **** hit me...honestly it is VERY hard to carry on with life right now. To add insult to injury...I am the ONLY one in my family to have male pattern baldness at this young of an age. Do any of you guys/gals have any advice on how to continue living despite all this?? It's just SO ****ing hard...thanks in advance, and sorry for all the bitching, but I desperately needed an outlet, and this was the best I could think of.

Hair transplant

Lol. Well, I must say I didn't expect such a blunt response but I guess your response is perfect! It's great to get a reply from you Fred--I've really enjoyed your posts on here and I feel that you're a very intelligent guy. However, I'm not sure a hair transplant will be a viable option for me. Only time will tell. By the way...very happy for you and your hair transplant results! It must feel great that you at least have your hairline back! Framing the face is everything!

If you are having suicidal thoughts, then I would say you care a lot about hair. What treatments are you on?

I feel like you, I cant cope with this... Cant afford a hair transplant either... Hope you feel better with time and learn to accept it..

Let's put it this way then: anyone who has enough money to pay an internet provider, a computer (or a smartphone) to be on this forum can afford a hair transplant.

I don't get the logic with internet provider &computer , but yes, if you work hard and save, you can afford a hair transplant, even if your income is low.

Still not true.

Sure if you live in a place like Norway where the Krone stands very high, you could afford that going elsewhere. But if you make average pay in an average country, you will NOT be able to afford it. Try telling a Canadian that $7-12,000 is affordable when the average income is about 46-48,000 per year with the government taking away $15,000 of that. You're left with about 31-33k. Rent costs about $1,000 at the low end. Then food. Internet here is not cheap, most people pay around $60 for 15mbit connection WITH bandwidth limits and overage charges. Mobile phones its the same problem, most people pay close to $100 if not more. Then car insurance, also very expensive, $100/month minimum assuming you've got a good record and a good provider. Then the car payments, maintenance, gas (expensive, about $1.05 per litre). I drive about 170km per day to work and spend about 500+ dollars per month on gas. Then theres my student loan, because education here is NOT free, I pay $155/month.

This doesnt even include stuff for the home, clothes, hygiene, electricity and maintenance fees for your house/condo/apartment, property taxes, cable television or money spent on basic LEISURE to enjoy life.

You think it's cheap? You're privileged man. It took me a while to save up a chunk of money to have enough for a downpayment for a condo, and I make more than the national average despite the fact that my car is paid off and i dont have a 'luxury' lifestyle.

Im living paycheck to paycheck, have a child to support on top of gettimg my wages garnished by the state. It would take me fifteen years to save up enough money for one hair transplant let alone multiple which I would obviously need. Too much of a gamble considering the success rate for nw5s when it comes to transplants. And no, there wont be anything better in fifteen years to make all the saving worth it.

But as far as op goes, yea being bald is hell on earth. Escapism is how I deal.that and venting on this site.

Yes, you're right. I do care a lot about my hair. Hair loss+anxiety and depression can really mess a person up. Unfortunately, I'm only on minoxidil right now...but I am thinking about getting back on finasteride. At this time, I cannot afford a hair transplant. I MIGHT be able to get one in a few year's time, but I'm not counting on it. I have no family history of premature baldness, so I can't tell exactly what Norwood I'm going to end up at. Therefore, I really don't think I'm a good candidate. But, judging by how aggressive it is so far, it seems that it's going to be quite a significant degree of loss.

It may be better than being skinny and bald, but is it enough to counteract the baldness itself? Most would say not... rather the example you provided I think most people would still find strange looking, maybe even moreso since the head doesnt match the body. Let him grow out a little scruff because he is way too baby faced. Needs to work on his neck too. Bald heads need thick strurdy necks to sit on to look right.

This is all that women will look at:

All that extra muscle doesnt change anything. It's just a politicallly correct feel good answer/suggestion to men afflicted with baldness. As if to say 'try this, it will help'. Its just another way of keeping us down.

Internet is like 30 a month....hair transplant is 10s of thousands...your math is a little off

Lol, well I DO hit the gym and I'd say I'm pretty damn muscular for the genes that I have. However, that's not the point that I'm trying to make here.

Haha, $1.05 litre of gas? That's cheaper than here in Eastern Europe.
Complain about $33.000/year? I guess you would be shocked to know that here, most people salaries are $3000 /year!!
Oh yes, and , paradoxically, here the litre of gas is almost 2$!!!!
But still...170 km to work? That's pretty much...

So yes, if a hair transplant would cost a quarter of my annual income, i would say that's EXTREMELY cheap... So if i were to consider going to western europe at ******** or another, i would need the annual income of 2-3 years just for 1500 grafts... Imagine it:2-3 years i would need to save every penny, to afford a hair transplant.
So tell me hair transplant are not expensive. Some people really talk nonsense some days. They know nothing about "the real world", they only look at themselves.
Internet? It's cheap here, fortunately: 10$ /month.
Computer? This one i write now is bought in feb 2008, haha...maybe in 2-3 years i will buy a new one. Why? Here we don't "bath" in money. So you use a thing(for instance, computer( until it practically dies out. You don';t change it at 1-2 years, just because you become bored and want to see the new models/operating systems. I am still with Windoes XP, by the way.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like i'm starving to death, no, i have a normal life with what i need, but really, at the end of month/year, i have no money left to save, and i am very careful with what i spend and how much i spend on anything.
Life is tougher here in eastern EU, maybe that's why hairloss is not the biggest problem.
When you have an easy life, with good incomes, i get that , in absence of other struggles, you could obsess about your appearance.

going to have to disagree with you there bro. Most of the bodybuilders I know do very well with women and are mostly bald/balding or trim their hair down to zero.

Theres more to getting girls than hair. Chances are if you couldn't get girls while bald/balding you wouldn't get any girls with hair either.

You don't get it.

33k after taxes is peanuts when you have to pay so much for all the necessary expenses after. In the end, you're not saving much on the side for an hair transplant. I don't care if $1.05 is cheap for you or if some people make 3,000/year. It's all relative... and even at 3k/year your proving my point; hair transplant's are expensive. PERIOD.
