Is that right! What happens if you are fair, stubble is hardly noticeable, and what happens if you are baby faced like the man in the pic.....you have to grow youre facial hair out which society hates.

- - - Updated - - -

What about a fair haired man who stubble is virtually invisible? He has to grow his facial hair out for it to be "prominent" Stay clean shaven then I hear you cry. What about if one is as baby-faced as the man in the pic.
I will rephrase, society hates proper facial hair, full and thick as nature intended.

Try being a balding/bald man who can't grow a beard. Like, at all. Even if beards are frowned upon at least it's an option.

I feel lucky that finasteride works for me with no sides. I would def get off it for a while before having kids though. Fred is right, not worth the risk.

I guess deep down I've always considered dropping finasteride in old age, but I'm not sure I will ever stop caring about being a bald man.

To Swingline--Very nice, man! :) effects pedals are something I need desperately right now. I play bass only, and I primarily play various forms of rock and some metal. I'm pretty much a strictly finger-style player but I dabble with some slapping...but I REALLY need to work on tapping and playing with a pick. For the most part people seem to like my playing, though I have a LOT to improve on.

I suppose I could get into a band, it certainly would help despite my hair loss...but it's just so damn difficult to gain the confidence to go out and play at this point in my life, you know?? And yeah, bass is often overlooked in a rock/metal setting. But if I get good enough, I bet I can get as much respect as the typical guitarist can! :)

Yeah dude!!!! Scott Devine kicks ***! A bass/drum duet would be pretty awesome, man. Ever heard of Death from Above 1979?? Not my favorite band in the world, but they're currently doing pretty well with their bass/drum only style.

The answer to your question OP:-
Realise that you CANNOT let your hair judge your worth and you mental sanity. Society and media are doing an A class job on that.

Hair is important but, your mental sanity is too. If you had any sides on finasteride then just look for other treatments like that one with Soy isoflavons and capsaicin study.
Try the S5 cream and check yourself if you are a good responder or not.
What exactly is the S5 cream and where can I get it??

DFA1979 stinks. Pretty much every bass/drums duet Ive ever heard stinks. They all overly use effects, the song lyrics stinks and they dont use any melody its always just slamming on one note as fast as possible.
Anyway sorry to break it to you, if youre in the rock genre youll never get anywhere NEAR the respect even a generic guitarist will get. It just doesnt happen. Hence why I want to just do bass/drums. I used to be REALLY good and still never got any respect cause your always pushed back. You are already the bald guy just by choosing bass. This is why I said you need to be in a funk or jazz band if you want some kind of attention. I used to get complimented by other BASS PLAYERS all the time at shows but never anyone in the audience, they were busy clamoring everyone else in the band they would rather be. No one wants to be a bass player, this is why they are in high demand. I put my ad on craigslist and purposely wrote "dont ask me to join your band, I dont want to join your band" and I still get like 3 emails a week asking me to "PLEASE come play with our band". I dont even answer them now. I honestly refuse to play with a guitarist or a singer who is just a singer.
Ive even been looking for people to work on music with via dropbox and email. CT has an awful music scene though.

Ive been trying to get better at tapping as well but you need a good setup to work well. My old stack setup was awsome for this. I could easily get enough noise to make the taps loud enough. Anything less and you REALLY have to slam the fretboard and you wont get enough speed to sound good. You also REALLY need to know the notes on the FB and scales. Just picking any random notes sounds like crap. Ive been trying to find an hour every couple of days to get back into it. But Im also trying to get enough time to pick back up learning my spanish (Duolingo app is great). Not enough hours in the day when you live with someone, your time is never your time.

If you ever want to collaborate some stuff virtually lemme know, been really interested in trying this.

all u need is a hug :grouphug:

but really man ull be aiite. im the same way though i dont think im ugly, but hair loss has brought my confidence down a lot. all day i envy guys with hair who dont even look as good as me. it kinda sucks, and makes me feel like i hit rock bottom.

besides taking meds/surgery, always look at what u got. if you can appreciate the things u have then hair loss shouldn't be much of a problem.

Haha, yeah I will admit they are mediocre at best. Not to mention they are awful live. And yeah, maybe I'm being too ambitious...us bass players are high in demand and yet we get so much disrespect.

And yeah, tapping is a b**ch...very few bass players actually make it sound good. Probably like 60% of the tapping bass "solos" I hear on Youtube sound like utter ****. I REALLY need to start studying scale patterns, it would do me a world of good. And finally, I would love to collab with people but I think I've got a long way to go before my skills are good enough to actually put together songs.

Ill tell you collaborating is the best way to learn fast. I am self taught (taught used loosely) and the fasted I started picking up stuff was when I was cooperating with others. even now I just get bored sitting there solo.

Check this guy out, hes got some good tapping techniques, then again this is like one of my favorite songs so I might be biased

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4L391fA4G4

if you see hes really not putting a lot of pressure on the strings or slamming his fingers down hard. He must have a really sensitive toned rig cause he even seems like hes playing harmonics and not even ON harmonic notes lol.

the 6beersin comment is mine. I was trying for like 2 weeks until he told me the tuning he was using. Its such a weird one.

What kind of stuff do you play as of now? I used to have a couple youtube vids up of me but actually suspensed the account and forgot they were attached to it so they are gone. Maybe Ill do some more but unless i was THIS good I see no point.

If you are really foccused on halting male pattern baldness try finasteride or dutasteride. If you respond well to finasteride, I would just jump to dutasteride, it literally neutralizes hair loss in most cases.

Ahhh yes, the great Zander Zon. Of course, he's using piccolo strings, which are SUPER light gauge, so I'm sure that helps. And yeah, Mr. Brightside is a great song!!

Currently, I'm trying to get into playing some muse, iron maiden, Pantera, etc. It isn't much at the moment, I'm sort of just getting back into it after a long "break," lol.

Hello all...this is my first time starting a thread so please forgive me if I do anything wrong here. However, I'd just like to vent. I've been lurking here for a long time now. I'm only 20 years old...I just looked in the mirror, brushed my hair around a bit, and to my horror, I noticed just how severe my hairloss has become. My temples are only at norwood 2.5, but I am diffusing ALL OVER the top into what seems like either NW5 or maybe NW6...the hairs have become crooked, light-colored little weeds that stick out in all directions. The backs and sides are quite a bit thicker, and thus I have the classic horseshoe that is starting to become noticeable. I have always struggled with confidence(especially regarding my appearance) and this has just forced me down to rock bottom. I was just beginning to discover my self-worth, and then this **** hit me...honestly it is VERY hard to carry on with life right now. To add insult to injury...I am the ONLY one in my family to have male pattern baldness at this young of an age. Do any of you guys/gals have any advice on how to continue living despite all this?? It's just SO ****ing hard...thanks in advance, and sorry for all the bitching, but I desperately needed an outlet, and this was the best I could think of.

First things first. Buy Finpecia and take a fifth of the pill a day. You can save your hair your less than a dollar a week. Everyone your age can afford a dollar son. Wait to see if you get side effects. You most likely will not get any. If you do not get side effects. Continue taking the pill religiously every day for the rest of your life. If you DO NOT experience side effects start minoxodil 3 months after Finpecia (if you want to ask my justification for time scale ask but do NOT take both drugs at the time time initially).

The only two shampoos you now should use are nizoral and Piroctone Olamine. Sorry for thie text now being in bold but I pasted that last shampoo because I didn't know how to spell it. These are the only two shampoos you will use now for the rest of your life.

The other thing you should purchase is caboki which is a hair concealer. Takes 30 seconds to put on and gives you a full head of hair. Don't overdo it though. Less is more.

Now to dealing with the problem mentally. People cope in different ways so there is no right or wrong way here. Firstly stay hopeful. It's good to have hope and that will keep you motivated in your life. You should have hope because we have hair transplants which you should start saving your pocket money for now. Also there are potentially going to be future treatments such as Replicel and Histogen which may be the magic pill we all have been craving.

If you meet a beautiful young girl who falls in love with you don't be an idiot and cheat on her because you are young and think the grass in greener on the other side. Accept a 10/10 girl loves you. Be grateful and make loads of babies with her. A family life means better mental health. A man's own worst enemy is himself.

Try not to let others know hair loss bothers you even though deep down it does.

Do not put other aspects of your life on hold such as studying or working.

Do cardiovascular exercise regularly. This will increase the endorphins in your brain and you will feel good about yourself.

Something bad has happened in your life. This is what makes a boy a man, if he is prepared to get back up when he's been kicked to the floor and thrown out in the cold.

Hope this helps.

- - - Updated - - -

Lol. Well, I must say I didn't expect such a blunt response but I guess your response is perfect! It's great to get a reply from you Fred--I've really enjoyed your posts on here and I feel that you're a very intelligent guy. However, I'm not sure a hair transplant will be a viable option for me. Only time will tell. By the way...very happy for you and your hair transplant results! It must feel great that you at least have your hairline back! Framing the face is everything!

Just ignore these idiotic posts. Yeah hair transplant is a good thing but they should of recommended finpecia first. Also they haven't addressed your actual question which correct me if I'm wrong was more to do with the mental challenges of baldness. There's are a lot of useless idiots on this forum who do everything in their power not to help newbies. Stick with me kid. Anything you want to know about hairloss mental or scientific give us a shout.

- - - Updated - - -

Im living paycheck to paycheck, have a child to support on top of gettimg my wages garnished by the state. It would take me fifteen years to save up enough money for one hair transplant let alone multiple which I would obviously need. Too much of a gamble considering the success rate for nw5s when it comes to transplants. And no, there wont be anything better in fifteen years to make all the saving worth it.

But as far as op goes, yea being bald is hell on earth. Escapism is how I deal.that and venting on this site.

You have a very close minded viewpoint in that you say you cannot afford it due to the job you have. Try and get a promotion. Or get a second job. Or take a different career path. Or take a gamble. Get a loan and go down the casino. Think outside the box my simpleton friend.

- - - Updated - - -

To bilboswaggins--Nah dude I actually agree with you. That's why I said that getting a hair transplant doesn't seem like a viable option for me. I may be desperate and depressed, but I haven't lost my mind(yet) even though sometimes it feels like I have. I would love to get a hair transplant, but I'm VERY cautious about going through with it.

A good hair transplant surgeon will just place grafts evenly where you are thinning so if and when you lose your native hair your hair transplant result will not look unnatural. People who say you need to stabalise your hair loss before you get a hair transplant are ill informed. Some of us like me cannot stabalise because I was the 1% of people who got side effects from finpecia. You you should give it a go. Most likely you will not get sides.

- - - Updated - - -

I would be afraid of what I would do to anyone who would even look at me the wrong way, if I had those muscles. What the **** are you looking at?! You laughing at me cuz im bald?! Lets see how funny it is when I chase you down and give you a curb stomp on a fvcking parking block. I have too much hate in me, I would just become the most confrontational guy ever.would be fun to turn those smirks upside down though.

If you attack anyone physically then your *** is going to jail baldie. I don't want violent baldies around my family.

- - - Updated - - -

cool, just picked up a nice ZOOM multi effects pedal from amazon for 79$ as a replacement for my old ones I lost in my house flood.

What do you play (style)?

I play bass and some drums. Can play a bit of rythm guitar. Been slacking myself lately but really trying to get back into it, I was damn near lead bass (lol) skill at one point.
Hey hair loss or not, you can get into a band at least, that gets more girls than any amount of hair will. I mean playing bass is the lowest level of the band unless you are in a funk or jazz group but its still something better than nothing.

This guy rocks and is bald as schit
http://www.scottsbasslessons.com/

Ive been trying to put together a bass and drums only duet group for a while now but people are so mainstream theyre afraid to try anything new.

Incorrect a shallow 18 year old cheerleader stunner will prefer an 18 year old guy who does *** all with his life with perfect hair than a 18 year old baldie trumpet player in a brass band

This is absolute rubbish. You were probably just too bald to get noticed. If you are a handsome full haired bass player in a rock band girls will give you one because they have the attitude: 'hey I ****** that band member". Most girls don't even know the difference between a guitar and bass guitar. Trust me. They just talk with their gfs who is the hotter member the one playing the red guitar or the blue guitar. They fail to notice the red guitar has four strings, is bigger and is not of the treble range.
