Definately saf, this is why I said earlier I think its a shame, but I do understand why its like that. A commitment to academia is a long and often isolating career an not hugely rewarding.
For example, were all children of the enlightenment principles of 17thcC Kantianism, in the 20th century Russia experimented with Kants prodigies Hegel and Marx, its takes a long time for society to catch up with thought, the debate has gone way past that now but were still iving by Kants philosophy, it will be a long time before society catches up with current thought, hundreds of years. Then you have to factor in the fact that there are large parts of this planet still devoted to ancient texts. Unless you are really committed to leaving a legacy of thought, there is practically no point in going down that route. I read about it because im interested, but its really not too different to watching porno with your dick chopped off.

Now you are just being facetious.I am NOT stating that there is a god,and there is another life waiting beyond this,I am hoping,that is all.Without hope,what is there?.What is the point of me going to work in a job I hate,working with people I hate everyday?....what just too pay "bills".Whats the point,more man-made bullshit.I might as well be a drug dealer,go round sha**ing horny housewives,take drugs,drink,and spend the rest of my time sitting on my a**e claiming benefits....now I have said that,it doesn't seem such a bad way too live,better than the life I am leading. :woot:

Society works to survive. Living another day is the reward.
And yes many people decide to take the easiest options crime or a life on benefits.
Its a matter of self respect personally I would feel worse about myself if I lived that way plus my wages afford me a slightly better life than benefits.
Its the same with crime the only reason I dont rob and murder people is because my concience prevents me, that and the fear of prison.
As for hope better to hope for more improvement in this (real) life than hope for something of which there is no evidence of existance.
