Why don't you try to cut your hair shorter on the parts of your head where you have stronger/thicker hair? It will give you a more balanced and easier to maintain head of hair and I think you will be able to mask your loss easier.

Yeah i'll do that. My hair is 1-3 inches longer up the top, on the sides, basically eveywhere that isn't thin. I did that to myself intentionally a while ago, so that I could have more to style up to mix in with the thin hairs. But now I think this has worked against me.

Ummmmm i'm buying some hair clippers. When I get some time i'm going to clip my hair down to about an inch on the top and three quaters of an inch on the sides. I might actually try and fade it, (ie: the top of my head will be half an inch, and it slowly rises to 1 inch at the front, where it's most thin).

It's just really annoying having a thin spot right at the front, and then having a bit of thick hair topping it off. When people see me face on- I look fine. But then I look down... lol.

OH and I AM going to be using Nanogen Fibers with my hair buzzed. One bottle lasts me well over a month. I've had one for three weeks and only half used it so far. Unless for some reason I grow enough hair to make it look alright, then I won't use Nanogen. Seriously, that stuff is really good. Just not for hair my long.

I don't have much hesitation buzzing it, f*** I just want to do it now*, because I know Nanogen will most likely cover any thin-ness I have. I am perfectly fine with my "mature" hairline since i've had it my whole life it doesn't affect me in any way. Just coupled with thin-ness inside, makes it look worse.

*I don't have clippers yet. And my grandmother woudln't take me to the hairdresser today not even for a "trim" she says she doesn't trust me. She thinks I might ask them to shave it. I suppose I shouldn't do anything sudden, since my party is tomorrow, and I need to be mentally able to sit my exams next week.

And of course, if Nanogen starts to wear off then I can always shave it. And by then hopefully i'll be out of university.

Thanks a lot man! I'm having about 70-100 people over to celebrate. I just wish I could feel as happy as I appear to them all :(

It kinda sucks that i'm so down on my eighteenth birthday. I've been waiting for this day for so long. Sigh.

The only thing that's made me happy today is this photo:

It's nice to know at least my body looks good in these depressing photos. This might sound really rude for some people reading it, but i'm glad i'm not an overweight baldy. Although in retrospect, i'm one of the lucky 0.01% of people at 17 who are a NW3. Don't I just feel so happy.

Where'd you get that figure? Only one in ten thousand people at 17 are NW3? That's what one hundreth of a percent comes down to. I think it's more like 1 in 75 people at 17 are NW3. There are some NW6's and 7's at 17. Those kids may be one in a few thousand.

Well there are 130 17's at my school. I haven't noticed anyone with more then a NW2.

I'd say its somewhere around 1 in 200, or something.

Obviously being a NW3 at 17 isn't exactly a good thing...But in some ways you are lucky man. For instance, at least now you have a while in order to sort yourself out, try different hairstyles, possibly regrow more hair and also come to terms with it. Figure out what you'd do with more hair, then go and do it whether you have more or not. Also you've discovered nanogen which really seems to do a very good job for you. Trust me when i say that it is very difficult to cope with when it begins at university, when you're trying to build a new life for yourself, it's extremely difficult to do when you see yourself changing in the worst way possible before your very eyes.

So just use this time before uni fully to your advantage, you will be so much happier during your uni years because of it, which are supposed to be the best years of your life ('supposed' because it really affected my first 2 years, now that I'm happy it's too late).

And happy birthday!

Hey spec,

Happy Birthday also from my side! Damn, 70-100 people is a huge number! When I became 18 I could have maybe invited like 20 people who would have come mostly for free drinking.

Hey, your body looks good (I say this as a heterosexual male 8)!!! ). Yes, balding and being overweight is really bad. I am really glad that I am skinny.

This is a picture of me taken about 2 months ago(ignore my weird haircut plz!):

I really love it how my bones show in this pic. I enjoy this anorexic look. Sadly I have gained 4-5 kilograms since then mostly due to bad eating habits. But I am now keeping a stright diet in order to reach this weight again. It is so easy to lose some weight compared to how difficult the battle against this plague male pattern baldness is.

What you said is true. I suppose it's better for me to deal now, then slowly work my way up- then to start to lose hair at 28, when i've gotten comfortable with awesome hair, and trying to settle down/ do well in the workforce. I know if that happened I would trip up.

However I can't just "enjoy" myself with my hair in it's current state. I wanted to be an actor many years ago and that aspiration has flowen out of the window. If I look good shaved, and tanned- then I will be "me" again and will pursue acting.

Haha thanks. Yes it's pretty easy to spot/admire if somebodies body looks "good" or even "hot". It's just homophobic culture makes it taboo to say things like that, even if there is no sexual attraction involved, anyway moving on:

Yeah. 80 people turned up last night. It started around 8ish, and finished at 2am. I was coma'd out in the garage sofa by 12.30, but I got back up at 3am as some of my mates were still there to crash for the night. It was a good party. I wasn't thinking about my hair, coz it looked alright. Right now i'm just feeling drained (because of a mazzive hangover I still feel sick) and I spent an hour obsessing in front of the mirror a few moments after everyone had finally left. It's like that when I have absolutely nothing to do. If i'm waiting for say, the school bus, i'll accept my hair isn't looking great/good/or even ok, and get on the bus. But these hours at home, I try and make my hair look better, as if searching for some stylistic solution I know isn't there.

GOD I can't wait to buzz. And I think it won't look that good. If it doesn't im shaving. I'm confident i'll look okay shaved. Especially since it's summer coming up and i'll be working outside. Tan time!

p.s: My dad is of inspiration to me. He started going bald at age 18, and was probably a NW4 by 22/23. I think he started to shave at age 27, although I can't be sure. Anyway, he looks really good. And my gran told me that he never "complained" like I do. Although he did go for scalp operations which hint that he was concerned about his hair loss. He's done well for himself though. So hopefully I follow in his footsteps.

Dude, I was in your situation when I was your age. And I f*****g hated it. It really fucked me up. You seem to be in way better shape than I was as I just couldn't accept it.

I highly encourage you to take your finasteride, keep healthy and just move on with your life. You can get chicks while you are losing your hair. Stay on track with your goals in life, get into your passions and try your hardest to be a good person. Doing those things will make you a much more interesting, intriguing, and attractive person.
Believe me, one day I woke up and I was 23 and hadn't done sh*t for like four years because of my hair loss. Please don't let this happen to you. If you can just be strong, stronger than I was, you will be so respected and you will be proud of yourself.

I am NOT proud of myself or my accomplishments because of how much it fucked me up, but I am trying to change that all now.

Good luck bro. Goodluck. You can do it.

I'll never forget during my senior year of high school. I was 17, about to turn 18 (im 21 now). I had started losing hair earlier that year but it wasn't noticeable (still really isnt :D ) and there was a kid, overweight and balding in my grade. Everyone knew him as the kid who was going bald. He was real shy too which made it worse. I felt so bad for him. He had a bald spot the size of a cup that year. He sat in front of me and my friend. My friend said to him "at least i'm not going bald" and I saw a piece of that kid die. He worked by me so i would visit him throughout the years and i saw his bald spot get bigger and bigger and he is completely bald now. Poor guy, almost bald at 17.

Ohhh gutted. Well I guess I should be happy that i'm not overweight, and don't have a noticable bald spot :p.

Guess he didn't try and shave it or anything? Hm.

Spec, nope, never shaved it.

And you have a good situation. You still have lots of room for regrowth. No bald spot is huge plus. I think being in shape is more important than how your hair looks.

Overweight people can lose weight though. I've been overweight a few times, weighed about 10 pounds more than I wanted to two months ago, and have since lost the weight.

a couple years ago i put on like the freshman 50 after a couple of years. went on a diet with severe calorie restriction and lost it all, then gained some back. i learned that this is a terrible way to do it and that the loss shouldbe slow and steady.

Ok guys just a quick update and i'm out of here:

I've been enjoying life for the past two months. Here is my 5 month update on Propecia and Nizoral.

August 2006 then January 2007
IM000423.jpg
im000459gln3.jpg

I have thickened up somewhat. I have less of a gaping hole I once had. The flash is on in both these pictures. I am more thin on my right side but it's not noticable enough to make me care as much.

Hey spec, good to hear you are enjoying life.
I definetly see an improvement as well. The hole behind the island has almost disappeared. Good job so far. Why don´t you get the Rogaine foam and try to lower your hairline? Good Luck , mate!

You friend sounds like an idiot. If your friend saw an Iraq vet with no legs would he mock him saying, "at least I can walk?"
