Well; exactly the sides I dont need =) Lucky for you though, you have nice hair imo very very similar to my best friends. Thick throughout and dark but hairline same exact pattern, but that's all. His dad and brothers similar hairline, grandpa, but otherwise no one like bald bald. So do update how you feel after stopping finasteride... if those symptoms go away etc. Also how your hair manages I'd ween off a little bit instead of cold turkey it. If you haven't been already. Anyays. Good luck!

Do your friends have a big and deep V-shape like mine? Did they mantain it through the years without losing hair on crown and vertex? It is what i wish is gonna happen to me after discarding fina. I was so scared of having male baldness just beacause the loss on the temples was so big and the quality of hair was poor.
I' m gonna stop fina at all from one day to the next if this is what cold turky means. I will sure update my situation about side effects (mental adn sexual) and hair effects after stopping taking finasteride.

Well my friend is 22 atm so hard to say his future but he recently got his hair buzzed and - it's a carpet. Thick as hell. His dad at 50 now is just starting slightly to lose some hair on the vertex/crown. But not too much. Now this isn't to say who knows what can happen; esp after taking finasteride for a while then stopping. And yeah cold turkey I mean just stopping all together suddenly. Just know its possible as your hair readjusts without the finasteride to experience some loss esp if your in that phase. BUT your mental health is more important =D

Here I am. Stopping finasteride was not a good idea: my slow hair loss re-started and, in addition to start receeding on temples again, I noticed visible thinning on the vertex. This happened about 6-7 months after stopping fina. You can see this from the pictures at the bottom of the page; they were shot approximately in early summer 2009.
After noticing my hairloss was getting clearly noticeable I started taking fina again in the same period (April 2009 more or less). It didn' t have any effect until 4-5 months (end of summer 2009) when I started to feel my hair thicker and stopped to feel that tiresome itchiness in the zone of the hairloss (you know what I am talking about, don' t you?).
Now, after 13 months, my hair are thick again and the vertex is almost perfect like it was before the stop. The temples are better again, the first bunches of hair on the sides were thin one year ago and now they are stronger. However, during the no-finasteride period, I receeded a little bit and I didn' t recover that recession.
I was at the point, 2 years ago, I started to have doubts wheter my hairloss was real or not. It was. It' s just that I started to take finasteride at such an early stage that I began to have doubts after some years that I was not suffering from male baldness at all. But my head of hair wasn' t healthy: it was just finasteride doing its job very well from an early stage of baldness.

About the side effects: they disappear about 10-15 days after stopping fina.
In the same way they reappear in 10-15 days from the day you start to take the pill again. I' m talking about the most noticeable (for me) side effects that is the very liquid sperm and the diminished frequency of morning erections.
About the mental effects and the weak erections I' m not sure anymore if they are real side effects or it' s just suggestion.

Effects on my hair from a cold turkey stop: I didn' t notice anything for about 4-5 months and then my slow Androgenetic Alopecia started to thin and receed my hair again. Typical tiresome itchiness in the package.

Effects on my hair after starting to take fina again: beneficial effects began after about 5-6 months after the first pill and I think they are going to reach their peak in 1.5-2 years. Then it' s just about mantaining (I suppose this from my previous finasteride experience).

Here' s pictures of me in middle 2009 when I was at my worst.
I will post up to date pictures of me in the next weeks.

I have to thank you. Your hairloss is very similar to mine.(I dont have any crown loss, but I have the "mature hairline" and crown itch). Im maintaining on finasteride. However I was wondering if I really had male pattern baldness like my uncle does or just a mature hairline like my dad. After seeing what happened to you when you quit finasteride, IM going to stay on finasteride.

Hi all, I' m starscream, i haven' t been years since many years and i lost my password and i forgot my registered email so i had to create a new accout. I' m now 32 and after many years under proscar/5 without interruption I think my situation is stable. Tomorrow i have a consultation with Rahal in Rome. These pictures are of august 2013, a few weeks ago.

I was at Rahal consultation in Rome yesterday. He told me I need about 1800 Uf to close the temples (without lowering the hairline).
These are the pictures the day before I met Rahal.

Hi guys, I switched to 1/4 proscar once in two days (every other day you say if I'm not wrong) so it is about 0.625 mg. of finasteride per day.
I made this choice to try to minimize side effects (who are mainly more watery seminal fluid and very less morning woods) and because i read some top surgeons (wong and others) suggest using a reduced dose of fina for maintaining benefits in the long period.
It seems i'm good with the reduced dose. My situation is always the same, i'm around norwood 2, I plan to do a high density fue on temples around next year.

I was visited by feriduni in june 2014 (the Doctor was in Rome for free live consultations) and he told me i need about 1400-1600 uf fue to have my temples restored with a dense pack!
So both doctors (feriduni and rahal) told me i need more or less 1600 uf for a dense pack on temples and that my minor thinning on vertex is ok if I stay on fina and doesn't need to be treated.

Well I updated my story because i had surgery with doctor Keser in Ankara in the last week of september 2016.
This is me in 2009 at my worst, I did a long break from finasteride and I started thinning on vertex besides having more recession on temples.
I started taking fina again in 2010 and I closed back my vertex while i didn't recover my temples...just some quality on thinning hairline hair.

Hi Starscream. Thanks for sharing.

You noticed the mental side effects from finasteride, yet after restarting you wasn't sure if they were real anymore?

Did you not notice any recovery of your mood, sleep and concentration for all those months without finasteride?

I'm just curious :)

I can't be sure they were real, I just have some problems with concentration and sleep but they are not a big deal and to be sincere I have always been this way since high school. I've always found very difficult to go to sleep at 23 to wake up at 7 even when i was 15 in the first year of high school. And I started taking fina only around age 22/23. I don't have mood problems. I have some friends that don't take finasteride and are like me, they tend to go to sleep and wake up late when they can and can't stay concetrated for long time. I'don't know if it is a hormone related behaviour, it seems like a man problem that girls almost don't have. Maybe finasteride worsen it all if you are predisposed, maybe it is slightly related or totally uninfluential, I really cant' say.
When i took the long breaks from fina I have to admit I was sleeping a little better but it could be placebo (or nocebo) effect because it was not a big improvement.

I can absolutely relate to that. I myself had slight sleep problems before finasteride and was somehow prone to anxiety and depression. I had trouble falling asleep even when I was around 10 years old and throughout my teenage years my sleep has not been the best in the world. Plus I even had some OCD ever since I was around 14 (which wasn't too much back then but obvious got worse while on finasteride). It seems that finasteride can amplify that predisposition to mental problems if you do have them in the first place.

I never had any problem with concentration though. Was always quick and sharp and top at school etc. But I do think finasteride introduced some brain fog in me especially when it comes on top of the sleep problem and lethargy.

After reading your post again, I feel interested that you said that when you were restarting finasteride it took you 4-5 months to feel that the itch go away? How is that possible? I thought even one pill would decimate your dht for a total one week? Also, did you notice any excess shedding or worsening of itch for that 4-5 months? Thanks!

After about 10 months I started to notice that the crown was a little fuller. Since that point it only improved month after month but it stopped at about 90%, never get back to 100% of original fullness. It is really good all the same, my crown is not an issue.

Many years have passed, I don't remember exactly the timing. It took a few months not to feel the itch anymore. I never had significant shedding because of fina.
No worsening of the itch. The itch during the first months of finasteride was like when i wasn't taking the pill, and after a few months it faded away slowly and gradually.

Amazing what finasteride and a good hair transplant can do for people! It can make a person who should be bald have a full head of hair.

@Starscream , congrats bro! Out of curiosity, what level of baldness do you think you would be had you never treated it? What does your family history of male pattern baldness look like?
