switching to dutasteride... a little help (jayman?)

i've given 1 mg finasteride enough time (2 years) and it hasnt helped.. thinning diffusely including around ears and nape of neck.

i had sides on 1 mg finasteride, decreased libido, fat deposits on chest and stomach, brain fog.

will 0.5 avodart every other day be ok? i am really not comfortable taking it everyday plus its also pricier compared to finasteride.

anybody here having good results with dutasteride? and what dosage are you guys on?


also, as of the last 2 weeks i've been shedding ALOT from the donor area especially.. mostly vellus from the donor area and healthy hair from the top.. (either seasonal shed since i always shed in may and june etc) or its my male pattern baldness getting worse since that would explain the vellus..

anyway, should i start the dutasteride in the midst of this shed? or am i supposed to wait till it dies down.. also, some people taking a loading dosage of dutasteride..that is 1.5 mg the first day and the 0.5 onwards..should i go for that?

JAYMAN: you were thinning in the same areas? donor area? diffuse on top and sides?

You need Rogaine Foam. I was on only finasteride for like five years, did not do much, just a little regrowth in the very beginning. My hairline started thin out more in 2006 so I did some research and found this site. I added foam and 2% nizoral, and some msm... and have had great results.

I saw foam results in 2 months, and it's gotten even better at 6 months. I say go for it.

What type of male pattern baldness do you have? (What Norwood are you? Or are you more diffuse)?

At what age did you begin experiencing the first signs of male pattern baldness? And how quickly did it progress before you took any medication? How old are you now?

If you have taken propecia, has that experience been as bad as dutasteride? What side effects did you experience? Did the medicine help at all? How long did you take it for before switching to dutasteride? How long have you been taking dutasteride for?

When male pattern baldness first started, did you experience the common scalp itch and tingle that is associated with it? Did you have a lot of white, sticky scalp secretions and build up associated with this? Did propecia or dutasteride help with this itch at all, or did these medicines make it worse?

How has your sex drive been on propecia or dutasteride? Lower than usual, or higher than usual?

What is your diet like? Do you consume large amounts of red meat along with bad carbs (sugar, white bread, potatoes)? Do you eat a lot of trans fat (margarine, anything with hydrogenated vegetable oils)

Do you take any supplements?

Also, this is very important. Do you order your dutasteride online? If so, from where? Or do you pick up avodart up in person from a real pharmacy with a prescription?
