Well I spoke to this hot chick/friend about hair and it's importance. At first she tried to be nice because she noticed that I was thinning but after a while she opened up. According to her (an educated , working professional in late 20s) hair is very imprtant initially for attraction, but in the long term confidence, personality, wealth, stability, etc become more important. She also said that most girls she knew preferred men WITH hair, not just with hair but men with their preferred hair color and hair style!

Also she thought it was a lie that many girls PREFER men who are shaved slick. She said only slutty, tomboy, bad girl type women would prefer guys who are totally bald.

Anyways thought I'd share.....

Well I guess that doesn't hurt me that much since I was always told by girls I am marriage material not dating material.

Apart from one, all the bald/balding guys I know go out and have fun. They have girlfriends, short term relationships, etc.

The one that doesn't go out is just anti-social, I don't think his baldness has anything to do with that. I knew him when he had hair and he wasn't any different then.

So I guess bald people like me should kill ourselves huh?

Quick! Overreact!

Like every other "this is what women think" post, it's a rediculously small sample. It's one womans opinion, no matter what she says about her friends. Attractiveness isn't a checklist, you aren't disqualified from being liked because you lack hair.

Baldness as a handicap is a self-fulfilling prophecy; you (collective, not directed) think you're ugly, therefore you are.

Hey viper, pardon my saying but you should swim over to the deep end of the pool because you are coming off as a bit shallow. So what if most hot chicks don't prefer bald guys. These types of women you are talking about still believe in fairy tales and prince charming so it is no surprise that they unrealistically expect perfection. I think you subscribe to a pretty juvenile mentality yourself. For instance, I don't care how many fancy cars you own.

I wasn't being serious.

But that being said, it would be stupid to dismiss it. Yes bad men can get women. BUT, it's about 324242343 times harder and they will be rejected a ton.

You know, it's not as if we were all 10s, sitting around attracting the attention of every lady who passed by before we started losing hair. We've all likely got many issues. We focus on the balding because it's something we had and lost. But it's also the hardest to change and may not even have the greatest impact on our lives.

What if we asked the same woman... "do you prefer men who are confident, or men who are whiny little babies about their cosmetic appearance". Well, we know the answer to that one.

There are so many ways we could improve ourselves-- in ways that may have much more of an effect than regrowing a full head of hair ever would. It's just one piece of the package.

'OK but he looks like he belongs in south central LA with that look.'

Very true, the piercing and goatee look ridiculous...if he got rid of them then itd be ok..ear piercings of any kind make bald men look like thugs or fags, big time.

I think a goatee looks fine if they connect. His doesn't.

But I mean the slick bald look (at least to me) like this guy, Joey Lawrence, Howie Mandel makes most white guys look like gay hairdressers. It just doesn't look good IMO.

I think confidence and a genuine sense of humor is more effective than any amount of hair in the world. Women generally want to be the one being concerned with their appearance. I still want to keep my hair though like anyone else! :band:

I think a beard actually helps against balding, because it doesn't leave such a clean image of yourself. People wait to see some framing on your face with the color of your hair and sometimes a small goatee is enough.

goatees aren't in fashion these days. I'd rather have a bit of a stubble or be clean shaved.

When I watch American news, or TV programmes from USA, I can see there are more goatees over there, but over here in Europe it's just not in fashion at the moment.

I don't know why but there seems to be some unsaid law that if you're bald then you must wear a goatee. Personally I don't like them on myself. They seem to work better on fat guys or dudes with thick necks.

I can agree with this. I always maintain some amount of facial hair, even if it is just stubble because it helps define my jawline. I will never shave my face with a razor because with my bald head AND a bald face I just look TOO naked. When I grow my beard out though I look like a perverted professor.

That is why I never shave my head with a razor. It is just too extreme. We all know bald people shave their hair short to minimize the contrast between their scalp and their hair but who are we trying to kid? Everyone knows your bald so I don't mind them being able to see where the stubble on my head stops and the horseshoe begins. But I never understand bald guys who grow it out as if they have a full head of hair. The shaved look is so much better than the bozo look.

True but one comes with the other. When you lose something you have had your whole life, it usually takes a huge toll on your confidence. If not, then so much money wouldn't be spent on hair transplant's, wigs, topicals, pills, and so forth.
