I've been doing a research about male pattern hair loss because I wanted to know my chances of experienceing it and how to deal with it if this happens to me. I wanted to resolve the following paradoxes:
Why most men start losing hair asathey older when their DHT production declines.

- Why some men have thick beard and and a lot of body hair and hair and have zero hair loss and others can't grow beard, have poor body hair and are balding?
- Why finasteride stops hair and but not fully reverses it?
- Why would DHT miniaturaze hair follicles if it promotes hair growth in all other places of the body?
- If DHT was meant to miniaturaze hair follicles wouldn't all men go bald and balding most aggressively in their teens when DHT levels are the HIGHEST.
- Why individuals treated with estrogen experience full or nearly full recovery from male pattern hair loss?
- Why men go bald on top but not on the sides?
- Why male pattern baldness occurs in this specific pattern. Firstly at the temples, forming a peninsula and then the vertex forming a bald spot?

And the final conclusion is that male pattern baldness is caused by chronic tension due to overdevelopment of the scalp muscles and scull expansion. This tension triggers the body's inflammatory response and it sends substances with antiinflammatory properties(DHT, Prostaglandins D2...) trying to reduce the inflammation. But they can't reduce the inflammation because of the never ending chronic tension and this excessive DHT,TGF-B1 and Prostaglandins D2 cause two hard to reverse conditions - CALCIFICATION and FIBROSIS which may take YEARS to develop.
But the scalp muscles itself aren't the main problem. As you enter puberty your scull is expanding - growing bigger and wider due to androgens. How much your scull will expand is determined by your genetics. The scull expansion doesn't just stop by the end of puberty. It can continue up to 35 years of age.

The calcification and fibrosis restrict the follicle's blood supply leading to gradual miniaturazation.
Drugs such as finasteride delay or slow down development of future fibrosis and calcification but can't reverse it. Minoxidil, as it increases the blood flow, becomes less effective with time as the calcification and fibrosis advance.
Male to female transsexuals often experience full recovery because the estrogen causes atrophy of the scalp muscles and this results in no more tension. Then calcification and fibrosis reverse. So it doesn't promote hair growth.
The only way to treat male pattern baldness successfully is to reduce the tension caused by scalp muscles with scalp massages and bottox injections.
And potential cure would be causing them permanent atrophy.

The role of the androgen receptor is just to switch on genes associated with male sexual development. It just activates genes for extensive scull expansion and muscle overdevelopment. Androgen receptor applies the same function in nearly all men. Having an unhealthy androgen receptor will lead to an ambiguous undeveloped male genitalia.

So it doesn't matter how thick is your beard and how hairy you are. It doesn't matter if you have high testoterone and DHT or low testosterone and DHT. Your androgen levels to be high enough to trigger the mentioned genes. If you lack these genes - you won't go bald.

Living a bad lifestyle with poor diet, lack of sleep and stress will accelerate the development of calcification and fibrosis and you will go bald faster. That's why men go bald faster than in the past. Today's modern life is more stressful, the food is full of hormones and preservatives etc.

Increased prolactin and estrogen levels increase the inflammation in your body. That's why higher body mass indey increases the severity of hair loss.

The baldness didn't disappear as a trait because most men didn't live long enough to lose their hair. The average life for a male in the ancient past was less than 35. And judging by the fact that men go bald younger nowadays, Probably very few men or none had advanced hairloss.

We need our hair to survive. It's not there for no reason. It protects us from the suns's UV radiation and keep us warm in the winter. If you have no hair you need to wear hat all the time because your hair gets cold. Especially in the winter. It's not optional because your ears will freeze. You will need to apply sun protection cream on your head in order to avoid sunburnt scalp. I am glad I have hair. And you should be too...

So a mature hairline doesn't exist. Juvenile hairline is the original hairline and the HEALTHIEST hairline. A male individual who still has this hairline means that he has no calcification and fibrosis of the scalp and his scalp is completely healthy. Lots of men older than 35 have zero hair loss, they aren't a majority though, but they aren't exceptions. The popular belief that less than 5% of men have juvenile hairline is not true. It's pretty common. I see at least 10 men every day and can post at least 30 photos as examples there. Don't make me to do this.

Go outside and you will see how many men with juvenile hairlines are walking. See how small narrow and/or squared their heads are so big head = bald head.

Hair loss on the top of the head can happen due to other various reasons such as nutritional deficiency, telogen effluvium or other medical condition or hormonal imbalance that can clog up the blood vessels of the scalp or cause inflammation.

The male pattern hair loss starts at the temples and vertex probably because of the limited blood flow to these areas or/and the highest tension is applied there.

Female rarely go bald young probably because of their high estrogen levels which prevent their scalp muscles from overdevelopment. Most women start balding when their estrogen levels decline.

Family history doesn't guarantee that you will keep or lose your hair. Everybody has their own unique DNA. You are most likely to inherit your father or mother's genes but not always. You may carry parts of your DNA that dictate your appearance from your grand parents and great-grand parents etc.

I found a very interesting article about muscles and hair loss. The pattern of receding temples and thinning vertex doesn't occur this was for no reason.

As you can see on the picture the galea match exactly the Norwood 7 pattern horseshoe. I forgot to mention that the galea also has muscles. It's called Arrector pilli muscle and it's attached to the hair follicle.

Found another article which says that the areas where MOST TENSION OCCUR mathes exactly the begging of male pattern hair loss - TEMPLES and VERTEX.

In the first article I posted they said that the tension is induced by the muscles surrounding the gallea.

I believe that the mechanical stree caused by scull bone growth is the main trigger of male pattern baldness.

Also, why we dont develope common baldness in the childhood when the skull grow more actively?

I dont think that "The cure to balding is to cease all eyebrow-raising facial expressions" ;)

Because in children there is not enough DHT produced to be sent in the scalp and there is not chronic tension because muscles hasn't developed yet.

Something which intrigues me is when females transition into males and end up bald at a shockingly fast rate. On particular pharmaceutical websites explaining female hair loss, they state that it’s due to a sensitivity to androgens. But why can’t that be applied to men? Men who transition into women have a complete stop of hair loss, and when estrogen is added into the mix they end up regrowing significant amounts of hair (there is a study showcasing the results of spironolactone and estradiol within a six month period).

Its androgen binding domain sucks dht like hungry begger and then this receptor complex enter in to hair cells to acticate many genes that can miniturise it. All other theories though sounds out of the box are mere speculation. It could be scalp tension which sends dht up to the hair or could be skull growth,whatever it may be the mediator is androgen receptor gene sensitivity. It you don't have sensitive AR receptor then no amount of dht could make you bald .

The hair transplant does more than placing the follicle itself. The hair transplant puts healthy tissue within the damaged fibrotic tissue. Hair transplant is not eternal. The new tissue applied just need time to develop fibrosis again.

It’s also transplanting follicles which are more resistant to DHT.

I already said that the role of androgen receptor is to switch on genes related to development of male characteristics when androgen levels rise by the time puberty starts. Everyone have healthy androgen receptor. If no it will lead to an ambiguous undeveloped male genitalia. Of course everyone has his own unique biochemistry and biology and different people react to androgen levels differently. Some men need 600 ng/gl of testosterone and some 800 ng/dl to have the same effect on their body.

But it's all about scull bone growth and genetics. I saw that ALL men and women with pattern hair loss have increased growth of parietal and frontal bone compared to those who have no hair loss.
It think is the scull expansion that triggers muscle induced tesnsion on the galea. And this results in triggering the body's anti inflammatory response causing FIBROSIS
The FIBROSIS is what restricts the follicle's blood supply and this leads to gradual miniaturazation.

The hair follicles growth is dependent on their surrounding environment. If you transplant a balding human hair follicle to a mouse it regenerates to a healthy follicle with only 1 CYCLE.
If you transplant head hair follicle to the legs it will grow smaller as the leg hairs are. If you transplant a leg hair to the head it will grow as longer as head hair.

I used to believe skull expansion theory and I posted thread about craniosynostosis and its resemblance with baldness. But I think the theory doesn't hold much water. I think genetic androgen sensitivity is what matters ,despite skull growth many people have good hairs in my observation.

They may develop balding pattern in the future. Some people need more time to develop calcification and fibrosis. Or they are just born with big heads. Believe or no it's OBVIOUS that is it that it's scull expansion. Every Norwood 7 has enormously wide or enormously tall head.

In previous comments you said that skull expansion stops at age of 35 ,do you have any proof or article which says conclusively that after 35 skull won't grow?
