retrograde mate

even fullheads have it

keep your head washed and don't grow hair on sides

You always call it how it is C4L.

Not much is understood about what causes retrogade alopecia right?

@SteveTabernack anyway, I'm on finasteride for 16 months and although I have some benefits for sure, I've experienced some thinning on these areas on the sides. I never saw any serious thinning there before the first major finasteride shed. After a quick search, a lot of people on finasteride complain about these areas. A derm told me that these areas actually need dht for their natural growth, as body hair and beard needs that too and that's why a lot of people post about shedding/thinning body hair while on anti-androgens. He also told me that in the end, all these hair adapt to the new situation.

Interesting.

One would think my beard should suffer also then which it hasn't. And don't even get me started on body hair.. If body hair transplanted to scalp would just take on normal head hair characteristics I could easily cure myself with all the below the neck hair I have.

I have retro as well. It's congenital I think and yes it's yet to be researched.

Everyone is different, there's no norm in these things. At my first major shedding due to finasteride, I shed from the sides, from the beard, bodyhair, you name it. Everything came back to normal after a while (I also have a lot of body hair and a thick beard and the difference was minimal), even my sides except they're not as full as pretreatment. I still shed beard hair more than before but they stay thick all the time.

Looks a bit better but I agree, you shouldn't be going out like this

For what it's worth I'm sure if I grew them out as you did I'd probably be in a similar situation... in telling you man, go .5, get a good barber to fade it into a 1 a little higher up.. you really can't be growing the sides out like that anymore man...

Yeah that's basically how I always get it cut but then I just let it grow for a while.

Somehow I actually feel like I get better reactions from the ladies when the hair is more grown out...

Also, no one has ever commented on my side hair, while the shitty top hair has certainly been torn apart a few times. Looking at it now for myself the sides really do look unbelievably sh*t though.

Guys... WHAT THE f*** IS GOING ON WITH MY SIDES?

View attachment 79398

I hadn't even realized how terrible it had gotten. Do I really have legit retrogade alopecia on top of my destroyed hairline?

This might be my f*****g breaking point...

In my own opinion, I think it just hasn't been washed. Unless you've just gotten
dreadlocks removed, which can cause traction alopecia in some people. (Because
it puts more weight on the hair than just being long in itself).

Just wash it with a normal shampoo, it should be OK.

minoxidil can be systemic and affect healthy hairs. My advice is take care with meds
BACKGROUND:
ODM-201 is a novel second-generation androgen receptor inhibitor for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).

Good luck

Uhm minoxidil has pro hair effects so what's the big deal if it affects the healthy hairs also?
