That review is very long and honestly it was painful to read for me. Not just painful due to cringe but painful as a reminder of what I was missing.

I know where I'd be if I had tried to behave that way, maybe in jail, or dead, or working a low status job like filling shopping bags at the checkout of Safeway. In part, I've worked hard in my life because I understood that I had no choice.

Can relate. I've written about my depression and the resulting slacking off in my 20s (no parties though, just hiding out in my room). As a direct result of this slacking off, I got into a deep hole in life (and professionally) which has taken me a decade to climb out of. I (try to) work hard not because I'm motivated, but because I have no other option (especially as someone with citizenship from a non-developed country).
