Short Version: Because it is a social taboo, even for 40 or 50 year olds.

Long Version:

I am 39. I lost my hear since the 20's eventually losing about 1 Norwood every couple of years in my 30's. I have a lovely family and my life is good. I never cared for my hair all these years. TBH I also did not believe anything can grow hair and I did not want an hair transplant.
I hopped on to treatment after meeting my elder brother after more than a decade who is on treatment.
I am on treatment since about 1.5 years and have been lucky to respond such that I am at about NW3 slight diffuse and still improving.

How getting from NW6 to NW3 has affected me:
- I now like to go out, socialise and meet people.
- My personality changed temporarily after I started looking good. I became slightly arrogant (over-confident). I am now fixing that.
- My partner and kids love me same, everything is same except she is bit worried if I talk about other women or start getting over friendly
- Women and girls do not look at me like I am a perv if they catch me looking at them
- I approach and talk to women
- I am motivated to keep healthy and stay fit liek going to the gym regularly. Earlier I was not motivated as I knew that would be in vain and I would not look good anyway
- I take care of my hair much more...every damn signle strand :). Its like a treasure returned.
- I groom, buy nice clothes, etc
- I like my photos. I like when someone takes my photos and sends them around.
And finally...
- I am thinking of getting on facebook

Excuse me,can I know what treatment you are using?

I mean, bar-hopping for 20 year olds at 40? I think you're being a bit hard on the guy in his early 20's.

Lol at thinking 20 year old dudes are entitled to young hotties

They're going to be attracted to whoever they're attracted to

Everyone knows that 30 year olds have no soul and are basically dead inside anyways. I mean if you throw acid at a 20 year old's face and permanently disfigure them that is a real tragedy. Do the same to a 30+ year old's face and they won't (or shouldn't) care because let's face it, their life is basically over. In fact, all 30+ year olds should just kill themselves because they are basically dead inside anyways.

I have an attractive face, I am grateful for that. But, I already lacked some self esteem. Now, I have f*cking rotting piece of sh*t f*****g crypt keeper hair and a six inch joker scar on the back of my head. I am 34 yes, but I am single. I also have to somehow explain how all this happened to my family and friends, as it mostly happened in the last 2 years. My older bro still has decent density, same with my younger bro. I will be the humiliated bald f*ck who caused all his own problems and looks like a disfigured *** face. I don't give a f*ck if you're in your twenties. This sh*t sucks.

You've misquoted me there kj. The second sentence was meant to be taken independently of the 1st one: it refers to the dude implying that this 20 something was somehow being outrageous for complaining that he looked in his early 30's, which is understandable.

Have you actually read any of my posts on this thread? There's no need to just randomly start being a dick about things. But for the record, I wouldn't necessarily want to live much past 30/40, no. 50 max. Past a certain point life is only downhill: why kid yourself otherwise?

When I first started losing my hair in my early 20's I thought the exact same thing: "If I can just keep my hair until I hit my late 30's I will be happy". Well guess what? Recently I hit 40 and I still care about my looks. It isn't all about about having sex with 20yo's. Honestly I could say that is not why I want my hair. Sure it would be nice but there is so much more that comes in to play when talking about the importance of having hair. Looking presentable affects way more than your dating options unfortunately and at the end of the day I think most people want to look in the mirror and like what they see at any age.

Yes, it sucks when you have brothers that have maintained a decent head of hair, especially when they both have retained the all important hairline.

I'm sure my brothers look at me as if I've somehow been neglectful for loosing hair. Or they might actually think that I like the balding look.
That's sometimes the mentality of one of them, at least.

i don't have the patience to discuss age related issues with someone who doesn't have the perspective earned from living long enough, which is a requirement for this discussion. if you had asked the same question and you were 34-35 then i'd indulge you but as it stands, even typing this feels like a waste of time. It's true - you are disqualified from discussing this because of your age; sucks, but that's the case.
And to answer your question, i rather like being a dick

No need to be a condescending arsehole either but suit yourself. Perspective doesn't necessarily come with age you know; your posts alone bear witness to the fact that presumptuous old greybeards can still be juvenile. But you're right, this discussion is clearly going nowhere. Best of luck saving your hair. God knows how you're going to react to wrinkles xoxo

All this talk about women in their early 20's had lead me to ponder the question... What is it about a woman of this age, that us men (of all ages) finds so appealing?
Now, apart from the obvious aesthetic reasons, what else is going on psychologically in the minds of men when they chase girls of this age?

Maybe it all relates our primitive biology.
David, we need your help.

i could turn this around on you to "perspective earned from being bald and young"

however you would have no idea what its like to be that as you never went through that like me and DBW.

basically if we take this standard of being allowed to talk about it, how can you say anything about our situations?

Quality bit of input there mate, do you want a sticker?

Careful, I said that getting old sucks and makes life increasingly less enjoyable in another thread recently and it's become a real sh*t show.

That's the one thing (aside from "just shave it") that people who are balding really don't like to hear, apparently. That getting old affects quality of life, even though balding is part of getting old.

i understand you being pissed at your situation and lashing out at others but that still doesnt make it right

this is a messed up thing to say

No, I'm pissed at how savagely half this hair loss community has jumped on me for suggesting that from age 35-40 onwards, at any age really, a bit of gentle temple recession is not going to be f*****g life ending. As someone who has actually experienced being fully bald, at a VERY young age as well, I find their so called 'baldness' laughable. Yes, that was a dick move to pull on Buckhorn (sorry dude - I've deleted the post), but the point still stands: some people on this forum just don't have a grasp of reality.

Baldness matters at any age. That's why.
Looks matter at any age. That's why. Go to a cosmetic surgeon's office and notice most of the patients are middle aged. Aging sucks. Side note: Bucky, you will always be a handsome white knight in my eyes. Back on topic: And more importantly, this world is full of people who still don't know how to cope with their depression and anxiety regardless of how old they are so if it takes a forum to teach them how to cope, then sign them up. Misery loves company(no matter how old you are).

i agree but i dont think any older guys are claiming that. they are simply claiming baldnes sstill sucks for them. which it does, but of course no one can really argue its anywhere near as bad as it is for us

i can relate in the sense that i'm too socially retarded to get with girls yet i still care about baldness. its an identity and feeling young thing.

correlation isnt causation. thats prolly just cuz middle age is when most people start having looks issues, and ofc baldness is a lot more common then. young people with loooks issues have much less money to deal with it, so they wudnt go to those places
