Despite my begging in multiple emails, he wasn't. It was the CEO of Organ Technologies and one of Tsuji's partners who is actually on the team. I think he basically just delegated to someone else on the team. He described the individual as "a core member of hair regeneration" and later as "Researchers of Organ Technologies and Visiting Researcher of RIKEN."

Update:

Interview is complete. Total duration is about 45 minutes of nothing but solid answers to the 20 questions. Translator has requested a couple days to get everything translated into English. She plans to deliver by Friday. At that point we will get this thing prepped and published on the weekend, latest Monday.

I can (of course) see why you'd really want TsuJisus himself there, but I think if you had someone in the know from his team and others there, it's just as well -- as long as all the questions received satisfying answers from the experts, we're good.

Update:

They requested to hear the audio after the interview so I sent it to them within 1 hour of the interview (that was around noon their time yesterday). A whole day passed and no reply, then I got a response this afternoon saying:

"We will check the raw audio data and would like to give you our feedback. Please wait for our reply for a while"

I don't know how long awhile will be. I am still having my translator begin work on translating the audio to English so we don't lose any momentum. But there's a possibility we may need to wait for approval before we can publish.

Just wanted to toss that out there now if it ends up being a factor.

Probably should've just let you guys go on with your lives rather than give you so many updates. Probably making it harder on you if delays come up. Sorry about that.

Something like this is to be expected with the amount of money these parties have on the line. I'm sure it's just their media people going over it, I'm hoping they don't request some answers to be taken out.

That's an interesting point. That gives me an idea. If they do request to have something removed, instead of doing that, I will suggest that we just add a clarification.

Update:

Just had a conversation with the translator, and have some preliminary information for you all from the interview. She mentioned that in the interview they stated they *are* able to control the width of the resulting hairs, as well as the color. And ... the density (# of hairs) in a given area.

Now that "bomb" being dropped on me seemed astronomical, so I inquired further just to make sure I had heard correctly. She confirmed. There is however something still standing in their way which they have not been able to get past just yet. Its their final hurdle.

My reaction was: "So should they be making the statement that they can control both color and thickness of hairs if they still have a roadblock and haven't actually done it yet? Maybe it should be called a hypothesis, contingent upon all roadblocks being addressed and actual implementation accomplished?" (clear as mud?) She said she thinks they were referring to their mouse models. That they were able to create custom density, custom hair width, and custom color in that environment.

She then mentioned that they phrased it similar to: the implanted hairs would follow instructions of surrounding cells for that particular portion of the scalp. That sent my mind down another path however. Adopting surrounding "instructions" for width, density, and color is technically different from "being able to control" it and customize it.

So we'll see.
