Thanks for asking. I’m still shedding like crazy but I am still working with a full head.

Worried about the Finasteride, on month 4 no slow in the shed. Trying to get info on minoxidil cycles.

Bluecyclone, been reading your accounts. I think our situations seem relatively similar. I'm 40, have relatively longish hair. Although I started losing my hair when I was 18, I seem to have been shedding like crazy for the last year. I was on Finasteride for about 13 years, but switched to Dutasteride in March/April this year because I'd noticed increased shedding and figured Finasteride had lost its efficacy. I don't know if your body's ability to fight hairloss deteriorates as you get older, or if there's any evidence that these drugs stop working over time??

Anyway, I'd been catching around 100 - 150 hairs per shower (that doesn't include all the extra ones that I miss of course, so figure could be double!). I think that's possibly slowed to around 40 - 80 hairs at present that I catch, but I do seem to be shedding hairs all over the place. Always some hanging off. ALso, I am pretty certain that the shedding increased with the Dutasteride. There was a photo I posted on another thread right after I'd had a shower, and my God, it was a crazy ball of hair I'd lost.

I haven't noticed massive changes on my head, except for a little further thinning at the crown and a wider part, especially if the hair's wet and I part it. It's very, very difficult to tell with my hair because my hair is SO fine naturally. Where it seems to be thinning on my head, my gf tells me it's no different to how my hair is all over, even in the non-thinning parts.

Here's a photo I took of my hair a couple of months ago. My hair is wet and has a deliberate part. I guess the biggest difference between our situations is that I began losing my hair when I was 18 (so 22 years ago now). I have had 3 hair transplants to bulk the hairline though.

I really hope it is gonna be better in the futur bluecyclone.

Going to tell my story too bluecyclone (never did)
Im a20 yo boy, started losing hair since 18. Last 6 month hair loss increased so I started a regimen 1 month ago : Fina 0,5mg per day.
Situation is same but I'm shedding like crazy too since 2 weeks, I would say 100 hairs per day, sometimes less sometimes more.
Maybe you think it is not too bad but I'm just 20 and I was losing mabe 40 a day before taking fina so im a bit scared. But still less than you I imagine. I ordered 8 box of Duta from a friend who buy it in pharmacy and switching from fina to duta (every day first month then every other day) in 3 month. I could tell you in one year if it worked or not, don't know why i'm confident. What norwood do you think I am : 1 / 1,5 / 2 ???

PICS BEFORE TREATMENT

Your case looks identical to mine as well. Full head of hair all my life, would always have to get the barber to thin it out because the bulkiness was an issue.. at 29 (1 year ago) a massive shed started that was at first diagnosed and ignored by 2 derms as Telogen Effluvium. It's true the shed started during a stressful life event (changed jobs and moved cities, no sleep, poor nutrition) but that stress has long since passed and shedding has only gotten worse.. can honestly say the biggest stress in my life is now my hair.

Mine is general diffuse thinning with no obvious crown balding or abnormally receding hairline (everything is thinning proportionally). I have always had long hair and now there are distinct thinning lines going from front to back on my scalp... looks like a woman's hair part but I have 3 of them and they are widening by the day... have never seen anyone with male pattern baldness look like this, very strange

I started with a natural approach by changing my diet, meditating, using natural shampoos/oils/tonics, dermarolling, scalp massages etc (hairIossrevolution.com is a good source for all of this).. I got moderate results at first but found the diet to be somewhat unsustainable. I thought I could get better results on meds so added those to the routine.. I am now on 4 months of 1mg finasteride and 2 months 5% minoxidil with absolutely no improvement. Shedding rates have only gone up (~100/day every shower, at least double throughout the day on the floor/clothes/pillow). I even started 1st round of PRP, the doctor said would take 2 or 3 round to see results so still being patient on that one.

Point is I know many people with male pattern baldness would kill to have our hair but it is still very terrifying and daunting seeing the high rates of shed that we do.. many in this forum can't even imagine it. Everyone has their own story/journey so don't let others make you feel yours is any less valid. At the end we all feel something was taken from us and so just need to stay positive and help anyone suffering the same... keep us updated if you find any progress, be patient and good luck.

Do you guys have any scalp issues? Like pimples/pustules/bumps (folliculitis in other words) on your head?
I have already been surfing for 2 weeks on this topic and one thing that I noticed was that almost everyone who had acne on their heads (including me :( ) had hair that fell out (as if telogen effluvium). sometimes they fall out irreversibly when a very large pimple present and scar formed (not my case yet)
Do youhave it guys?

If you’re killing your scalp dht and other androgens, and you’re still losing hair... it might not be that. Have you tried slowly eliminating things from your diet? You might be allergic to something. It seems insane that this regimen hasn’t even slowed down your hair loss. Unless it’s just shedding and your density is improving

Density is in steep decline. No hairloss until after 40 and I’m at about 30% density 3 years later. I’m clean diet wise and after frequent extensive blood tests nothing is off even thyroid. I’m really at a loss but this shedding is a nightmare.

Have you been to hair specialists? What do they say? Gradual thinning makes sense as you age, but if you’re saying over a period of 3 years you’ve lost 70% density then it has to be something abnormal.

Only thing I could think of if it’s not dht, it might be an immune system thing. Have you tried corticosteroids or a steroid shampoo?

I tried a topical steroid, Clobetesol, no change in the shed. There’s definitely miniaturization. But I’m throwing everything at it and it only gets worse.

Where would you get Corticosteroid or steroid shampoo?

I am prone too thinning hair and inflammation when i use 95% of shampoos.

Got a hair cut thinking that the long hairs might be pulling to much and some of the loss was mechanical.

Big mistake. Resulted in being unable to hide the diffusing. I realize proportionally to most male pattern baldness suffers I still have a lot of hair but the change has been dramatic in just two years. I’m really hopeless. I have cyst scars all over my scalp so even the ‘just shave it’ option is a problem.

Hair color is different constant shed.

Coat photo from last March. Density on top is gone.

Should I go nuts or give up:

Oral Minoxidil 2.5, Topical Finasteride, Oral Propecia .5 ED.

Add RU? Add the Italy stuff in December? Add clobetasol?

Don't use clobetasol unless you have severe inflammation, I used it because I do have sporadic scalp inflammation and it only made my shedding worse, use clobetasol with extreme caution it is an extremely powerful corticosteroid.

A more safe and reliable and proven corticosteroid which regrows hair is betamethasone and mometasone fuorate, both of those the first time I had really awful rapid hair shedding helped me in conjunction with a DHT inhibitor, best of luck to you.

I am prone too thinning hair and inflammation when i use 95% of shampoos.

Don't use a shampoo, use a leave-in corticosteroid "lotion" basically a serum in an alcohol base such as betamethasone or mometasone, both are proven to regrow hair not just reduce inflammation. You need to leave the treatment in your hair, I know, I've used both when I had a severe hair fall in conjunction with inflammation and they helped bring my hair back.

If neither of those work, the problem is not the kind of inflammation that corticosteroids can help.

Take more pics of your hair, not the shed smh. From that pic, your hair still looks way above average for your age lol
