Zeroheat, don't you think you owe a LOT of your hair to minoxidil rather than finasteride? If you dropped minoxidil and continued finasteride you would probably return to your baseline, or slightly better.
And what's your point?

He's likely an anti-finasteride propagandist looking for any excuse to say finasteride is terrible.

Geez...when I look at your hairline, like I've said, it's the exactly as mine and were both korean. But minoxidil isn't healing me as good as your results and i'm younger by couple years too. After 4-5 months, I see very little improvement. I only apply minoxidil on my hairline since I saw my hair thickening on the scalp/vertex by just finasteride. Do you think minoxidil will kick in harder/faster by the 1 year mark? I see very small thin hairs but its been like this for couple months now....

Well, minoxidil kicked in pretty fast for me and if it isn't working out for you after 4-5 months, then my advice is to save up some money and go for that minor hair transplant of filling in the temples.. that is my back up plan once minoxidil effect starts to fade..

If he didn't lower his DHT levels with finasteride, the minoxidil would not have worked as well as it did so he owes his hair to both.

Nice job zeroheat.

I'm sorry to bother you because I'm too lazy to read all 33 pages but did you apply minoxidil on your whole head or just the temples ? I just added minoxidil my regimen and I think I may have a bit thinning all over my head so should I just apply minoxidil all over ?

Did you use foam or liquid ? I just bought foam hopefully it's as good as liquid.

Thanks !
all over the head

What's the best way to do that ? Do you just rub minoxidil on your hands and then to your hair or how ? I'm afraid that the minoxidil stays on hair and doesn't go to scalp. Did you apply the minoxidil dry or wet scalp ? Thanks!

Use the dropper to apply the all over the head then rub it in with your fingers.. you can't avoid putting minoxidil on your hair, that's impossible

Re: Zeroheat's Story-(Temple loss, Big 3, 649 days update pg 30)

Zeroheat,

Just started reading your blog a couple weeks ago and your results have convinced me to start your regimen. I'm 36 and have been gradually thinning for a almost 8 years now. I've managed to style my hair where it is acceptable to me and I never really had bad loss on top. However, these last few months I've noticed very bad thinning on top of my scalp and my hairline is getting worse everyday. My hairline looks similar to yours when your started your regimen. One last comment, I was on propecia for a few years and I think I was able to maintain my hair back then with it and prevent any further hair loss. Never had any shedding either. However, I got off propecia about a year ago due to my wife and I trying to get pregnant. We had read that it could lower sperm count. Anyway, she's pregnant now so I'd like to get back on it.

I'm going to start the same regimen with the Big 3 this week.

Anyway, a few questions:

1) From what I've heard, Propecia and Proscar are the same thing, only Proscar is a higher dose (and cheaper) and that's why you cut down to 1.25 dose. However, have you heard if Proscar makes you shed any worse than Propecia?

2) You'e mentioned your shedding in your opinion was due to Proscar. How far into the use of Proscare did you start to shed and for how long?

3) Do you think from what you've seen or read that Propecia and Proscar would be just as effective? Do you think one is more effective than the other?

4) I plan to use Rogaine minoxidil. Do you know if that works just as effectively as anything else? (i.e., Kirkland, liquid, etc.)

Thanks again for your great blog!

By the way, anyone know where to buy Nizoral 2%? Is there a reliable website anyone uses?

It has been roughly 2 years and 4 months. Still going strong.. been missing minoxidil application here and there but that doesn't seem to be affecting the hair that much.. I'm lucky.

Why would it? They are the exact same thing

I shed pretty bad for like first 3 months..

I haven't tried Rogaine yet.. but it should be just as effective as Kirkland liquid. I recommend Kirkland though.. cuz I saw result with that and it's much much cheaper.. hope this helps!

I think yours is my favourite success story, you got the gains quickly, and in bald areas in the hairline and have kept them over the long term. Congratulations

No worries at all, your story was one of the main ones to inspire me to take meds as my recession was similar to yours. I didnt get the explosive regrowth you got but I have definately filled in my hairline and reversed the neglible thinning i had elsewhere. Part of the reason I joined up the forum was to say thanks to people like you who maintain such a thorough blog, stories like yours really inspire people to try the meds and persist with them through those torturous early months. Long may you have fantastic hair :punk:

Nice! It looks really good, like a juvenile hairline. Mine is growing slowly because I have no discipline. I only use it maybe 3x a week.

But now that your hairline is NW0, you still have apply minoxidil to where it was before you started correct? Do you think it's possible to lower it even more? lol Though, I think you're very happy with what you have now.

I still apply minoxidil in the same area.. I successfully lowered my application to once a day, but I plan to stay that way.. don't wanna take a chance

Hi bro. Questions again. Hows youre diet initially? Healthy food or normal?

And I was an avid gymmer and work out alot and was on high protein low carbo diet. But I've stopped cos some say working out cause hair loss. Sucks that I have to sacrifice the thing I enjoy most.

My diet right now is very health (lots of chicken meat + veggies). I can also say that I workout a LOT because I'm in the Army right now. So don't worry about it.. good luck!
