24M, significant diffuse thinning and receding hairline - is this salvageable?

You can lower your dose slightly, find that right balance. A lot of people mention how those type of sides go a way after a few weeks. But I’m not sure tbh

thank you selb for your reply, so perhaps give it a few more weeks to see if it settles then try 1 finasteride every two days?

Yes or you can try doing that now. You might see an immediate improvement

Thanks @Norwoody.

Would I be a good candidate for a hair transplant? The brighter hair has always grown that colour.

Your donor looks pretty thin to be honest, I would say to keep on the finasteride and compare the shots 1/2 years out. It's also possible that's just how your hair is but I'd mainly watch that line around the middle half. Looks like a NW6 pattern, and whether or not you would be a okay candidate probably depends on if that's the case or not.

Not to say that you couldn't get transplants as a NW6, but expect to need multiple ones while also possibly using concealers everyday still.

My hair is generally quite thin. When it's longer it does look a bit thicker? idk.

Guess I was hoping if I was taking the big 3 I could halt the thinning and then just add density with a transplant but I guess it's never that easy, lol. It's really f*****g with my mood lately. Don't mind being bald in my 40s or whatever but this is just too soon...

You absolutely can do that, but it hinges on the success of the big 3. If you can't stop your loss (and I mean close to 100% stop it), then going down the transplant route seems like a bad move. You'd be happy for 1-2 years then would realize you need your next surgery, but the graphs might not be available.

So I should just start to accept that I'm almost definitely gonna be bald in the next few years, tough going...

Not exactly, give the big 3 a go you might be a super responder. Finasteride held my hair in place for 6+ years.

Tons of new things on the horizon as well to look forward to if you can buy yourself some time.

Cause to me it kinda seems like that's my donor area?? The sides aren't the thickest but between the sides, the back and maybe some beard/chest there might be enough? I've sent off some pictures to some surgeons so I'll see what they say but I'll of course take what you've said into consideration. I suppose if finasteride holds me up for a year or so then I can take that as a more lengthy hold as it must have been quite aggressive loss to get where I am today at just 24?
Ya but then imagine you also need to use the donor hair to fill in between what's in the white circle as well as the front/top. The average person has about 9k graphs, with that drawing maybe you get 7k if you do a FUT. Write off 4500~ to get a solid front/hairline and you'd have at best 2500 left to get a crown/sides/back. Most people's donor area is much higher then that bottom horizontal white line.

Again I'm not saying it can't be done, just that I would be very cautious about moving forward if you think you are going to be NW6/7 and you don't respond to meds.

Thank you. Just hard news to accept i guess that my hope lies in meds that don't work for everyone and I'm pretty far gone

But yeah I suppose if it does halt it its a lot easier to fill it in than fill an empty area

5 weeks since starting treatment. Shaved my head. Really f*****g like the look. Will be providing higher quality pictures from now on. Don't know if it's placebo or whatever but I feel like the right temple definitely has some hairs that weren't there before. Before I shaved I did see some shorter hairs in the surrounding areas that might have been coming through? f*** knows. Either way I like the shaved headlook right now.

You should grow it out a bit while taking the meds. I’m always curious what these buzzed head look like when there’s a bit of length to em. Do it for sconce bro
