Duta: Good For Thickening Everywhere Except Where You Need It The Most

I wore my hair down for a while today, first time in ages. I noticed that that back of my head is actually legit thick hair. I was feeling it thinking “if the rest of my hair was like this, I would look fine!”. Like, I run my fingers through the back and can’t feel scalp. It’s DEFINITELY improved recently. I find also that that my temples are a little better too. The only area that’s super fucked is my hairline and MOST of all, the very top of my head with never grows ever. Does anyone else on duta find that it’s been a little helpful except for your worst areas?

How long have you been on it? I haven't read that many reports on 5AR inhibitors as treatments for FPHL. I'm not even sure of the primary driving factor behind it. That being said, dutasteride made everywhere on my head except for my hairline grow back to full density. my hairline is slightly receeded to maybe a bit past nw2? I've always kind of had a "bad" hairline being born with a nw2, yes kids hairlines can be shaped like that, so even slight recession forced me into action.

Been on it since November last year, so around 7 months.

There have been studies which showed success treatment fphl with duta, and I have seen that some women on the PCOS forums do get some success with it, but it’s certainly not a common drug for women to use. I think it makes sense the it can thicken the areas that aren’t overly aggressive. I don’t find anything works on the top of my head, but the back of my head is definitely thicker.

Has that area always been less dense? I know that hair density isnt uniform even in individuals without hairloss. Is it possible that area is just less dense and losing hair at the hairline makes it appear worse than it is? not discounting what your saying just legitimately asking.

No see I always had a lot of hair just all over, and my hairline was always very feminine, round an I had lots of baby hairs growing around my temples and sideburns. I’m just genetically and hormonally very unfortunate. I get the diffuse female pattern Androgenetic Alopecia from my dads side, and the retrograde/hairline thinning from my mums side.

My hair now + thickening products + blow dry + concealing spray + minoxidil (sorry, this is just the most recent photo I have which was taken today). You can see how much flatter is, my hair was once super volumous on top as you can see in the older photos. You can’t see my part because I covered it with brown spray stuff (thank GOD for concealer), and I’ve also hidden my hairline, which is much thinner and wispy because of the strange pattern of hairloss I have. I’ve lost 70% of my hair volume. I guess I should be grateful that I started with so much to begin with. I could never grow the amount of hair I have lost back though. I lose 150+ Hairs a day (around the 250-300 mark recently). I’ve posted photos of the amount of hair I shed before. It’s nauseating.

PS TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TELL ME THAT I DONT HAVE HAIRLOSS.

You haven’t seen me in person. No, I’m not going to f*****g show you what it looks like at its worst, because I don’t need to prove sh*t to anyone.

It's good you feel your hair is thicker. I haven't used Duta, but on Finasteride can also tell my hair is thicker, but the hairline is slower to catchup, specifically the thinner parts, but I do notice growth where it was fairly devoid of hair.

I'll show you what I mean.

1. Red triangle, at my worst, there it was basically bald there. What I'm not sure of is if they all shed at the same time due to Telogen effluvium, since it was thin there, but would be real coincidential that it has looked the best since using Finasteride. Now it looks like sparse baby hair. It took about 6 months to look like that, basically less hair in the resting phase.

2. Yellow rectangle is hard to see but has also grown back, albeit the hair is lighter and more sparse.

Can't say the island where the widows peak would be has thickened but I can see shorter thinner hairs, perhaps it's always been there. We'll see if it thickens up, but does not look like it.

Do you have any pictures of your hairline before your hairloss kick in and after and highlight what you're describing? I'm genuinely curious as I think my sister may be thinning on top(middle part on her front hairline).

Specifically this part you mentioned. "the very top of my head with never grows ever"

My hairline is better now since being on minoxidil, but o have a comparison of how it receded prior to treatment. So the first was 2013 and the second was 2015, almost a year after the hairloss started. My density is worse these days, and the top of my head is getting harder to hide. I shed way too many hairs every day. Hundreds.

Also your hair looks great! So thick!

Well damn, your hair was gorgeous. I've seen some of your current pictures from your other thread and can see the difference. Luckily your hair was so thick that it still looks pretty damn good even with your hair loss, but can understand the anxiety and concern. For me it was definitely hormonal but I also firmly believe cortisol is a precursor/trigger to a lot of conditions. Good luck and hopefully things improve on your hairline, since it has helped thickened your hair.

I should add, the parts of my hair that grew back, was void for about 3 months, and it took total of 6 months of growth(with less shedding perhaps) to look like that with the last 2 months where it's more noticeable.

Your pics from far distance doesn't tell much. Also there is a bad lighting. Take a look at these pics of my hairline - https://imgur.com/a/K9zCdZh. Looking at first three pics my hair looks bad. Looking at last pic - it looks good. Lighting is important.

I’m technically a nw0 with thinning up to nw2. My old hair was thick down to nw0. Now it’s diffused all the way around but definitely tons better than a few years back which sadly I don’t gave many photos of now because my old laptop died. My issue really is the constant Telogen Effluvium losing f*****g hundreds of hairs every day, the fucked cycles of regrowth and loss because of minoxidil, and MAINLY the top of my head. Like... it’s bad. I am wearing concealer in the above photo. Its quite obvious without it. The top of my hair is like super flat.

Doesn't matter when density divides by two every year.
Totally agree. My density has literally gone down the f*****g drain and continues to daily. Brushing my hair this morning I got 75 hairs. The rest of the day will be that x4. There’s no winning.

You can salvage the hard drive and get the pics back. What concealer are you using? It looks really convincing! Also Georgie can you show me a pic of your hairline with hair pulled back so I can see how deep the thinning goes? Thanks.

I use a spray made by L’Oréal used to cover grey roots. Comes in a few shades in a light blue spray can. It’s only small. I’m not st home so I can’t take a photo right now. It just darkens my scalp really so it’s not so obvious.
This is my hairline. It’s not very bad. My main issue is that my hair overall is really really thin and I still shed so much hair. Lost 21 in the sink just brushing this morning. I was so sad because yesterday my shed was better.

Doesn't look too bad but I can definitely see the thinning. Have you tried Biotin Georgie? Check out the thread I just made.

Lol. It was the first thing I ever tried back in 2014. Biotin is great.... for hair that isn’t genetically predisposed to Androgenetic Alopecia. Otherwise it does nothing except maybe make your hair grow a little faster. It has no impact upon the biological processes that trigger miniturisation, I can promise you that.
