Aren't we all due to baldness?

I'm facing a victrectomy, unless I want to have fog vision for the rest of my life...agitated, a bit

..plus I'm on the verge of getting my Private Pilot's License, having spent thousands on this, only to maybe lose that if this goes awry...

Python is nuts....he sent me a harassing private IM...line crossed at that point...
First of all, it wasn't private, it is on your wall and everyone can see it. Second, all I said was why were you defending the corporate pigs. Unless that's is considered now days, I suggest you stop complaining. In every thread you are fighting with everyone. But I understand a bit, your world is crumbling down do to your fog vision and your chances seem bleak at best.

Also, don't go around saying that I'm nuts, because I'm not, I had myself tested.

To the naysayers about 'crowdfunding doesn't work!'

Here's a social media campaign that raised $13 million dollars US:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life...keupselfie-trend-has-to-stop/article17685301/

In mere weeks, the campaign has raised £8 million for Cancer Research UK, which writes that it can now fund 10 new clinical trials.

And guess how they did it? By having women post selfie photos WITHOUT makeup. Men weren't even involved! Just goes to show that social campaigns can and DO work, despite all the negative bull**** people moan about crowdfunding not being a realistic approach. All it takes is an honest effort from a group of us in an organized manner. The results WILL show if we do things RIGHT.

I am sure we can make it work for us as well, we just need women to be the main reason. We might have to pay some models or get sufferers to come out. We HAVE to get Travolta involved in this, there were rumors he visits this site regularly.

Travolta and LeBron James would jump at a hair fix in a heart beat. As would Jon Cryer. Many celebs would push for a cure... hell, seeing how insecure LeBron is or how desperate Travolta is (wears a hair piece/toupee!) I wouldnt be surprised if they even tried to LOBBY for a faster release of a cure/treatment.

But I agree, women need to be a focus point too because nobody gives a sh!t about men's health. Women get a TON of sympathy.

Given the discussion here, i feel that such crowdfunding initiatives can help since there are existing problems in the current set up.

The reason why medical research is slow and expensive is because of a lot of factors - the failure rate is very high in medical research and corporate executives need to convince the investors that a research area is worth investment, the academic research is inclined towards 'publish or perish' culture encouraging slow , incremental improvements but do not blame them as it is often the demand for postdocs and prof positions, we hardly understand fully the pieces of male pattern baldness puzzle , so the limit is also imposed by theoretical knowledge, and FDA stifling innovation with its red tape.

Also, a lot of us want to torture pharma executives to death but they have a business model to follow as i mentioned. what else is the alternative? a socialist set up. so the costs of medical research is covered by taxpayer money rather by private investors (as cost of developing drugs and covering failures is not going anywhere). and so the priorities are also decided by taxpayers. How many people would want their money to go to solve male pattern baldness?

I know that such detailed analysis is not always appreciated over rabid ideological comments, but i gotta say what i gotta say.

You bring a lot of good points and I assure you that I would have nothing against big businesses and executives if they practiced an ethical business model. It is complete bs with the kind of things they do(mainly lobbying in government). They fix prices, evade every tax dollar they can, they try to destroy every small business that seems to have innovation, the lists goes on and on. The failure rate for biotechs is the highest of any other sector, BUT... if we had to put our eggs In a basket, this will be it. It is more promising than anything else in hairloss combined.

Yeah, recent tesla case was one which was frustrating. (when they banned tesla in 3 states). anyways, i just hope things get moving fast. my hair loss has accelerated all of a sudden. i will be completely bald by 38 , like my father. something or the other should work out. follica or this. or any other stuff. any topical will do as in like that one which suppresses dkk1 expression - l ascorbyl 2 phosphate ( i found somewhere it is selling 100$ for 1 gram - i mean WTF!!). i read that suppressing dkk1 expression reverses the effect on follicle and stuff like that. just hoping that some approach would work and should be within reach.

Yeah, I am defeated at this point too. finasteride and minoxidil have stopped working, I have a rare case of hairloss and I probably won't even be benefiting from this when it and if it comes out. I can't accept going shaved, so I think I will probably give a hair system a shot.

Some of you, at least hellouser, know that I have been talking about this for a while now. Somone needs to act. Is raising enough money going to be an issue? HELL NO. You can see that when this topic was mentioned normal people said they would donate a thousand... we could rise millions.
The issue is really about organizing this in a way that everyone is involved feel comfortable with the process. I made my detailed suggestions earlier. I cannot contribute my time directly on this, however if someone of you (well educated and sane) comes forth and "volunteers" he can be paid as a small percentage of donations. It will take almost a full time join to organize and so on. So it is normal for that person to be compensated by us. I have expertise in finance and management and I am generally a wise and very careful guy. But someone (not me) needs to do the day to day work and again can be paid for it.

I spoke with my GF who has been itching to work on something that makes a difference, and since she is quitting her job next month, and is willing to set up a hair loss foundation financed through donations aimed at funding research, with funding being voted on by contributors. I could direct her and tell her what to do in coordination with some of you here. Ideally would want someone who is extremely knowledgable with hair loss science to be contributing some time and advice on this. I am NOT vouching for me or my GF doing the work, I MUCH PREFER if someone here who has time can setup this thing.

Failure to take matters into hand would be such a shame on a group that frustrated

What kind of experience do you have with finances?

For myself, I've got the following:

10+ years graphic design
5+ years photography
10+ years working in advertising, marketing, publishing
4 years with social media

Other things I can work with:
After Effects (video production)
Some web development but mostly front end

Not vouching...? And yet you glorify her like the perfect candidate. We need someone educated and trustworthy.

Raising the money is not the problem. As many correctly stated in this thread, there are so many desperate men who would be willing to donate a lot of money if they knew it was put to good use. I would also donate quite a stash of money - but only if I knew it was put into some viable approach.

And that is the crucial point - who and on what basis decides where the money goes? Who in here has a) enough insight into the matter of hair loss biology and research in general and b) the will to deal with so much money, i.e. so much responsibility?

I wouldn't donate a single cent if there was a chance that funding went into "alternative" treatments proclaimed by psychics or by pseudo-science. The people in charge of the investment need to have enough knowledge in biology and medicine to tell apart pseudo-science from real science so that all the money they control (which is potentially a huge sum) doesn't go to waste.

I would not encourage anyone to donate one cent to any cause until they were completely satisfied with the financial handler's legitimacy or reputation. Legally confirmed credentials and references up front first. Never donor money. This is professional transparency and the number one rule that is normally prepared and presented automatically. As many of us realize, a donor's expectations of a charity group's objective contrasts in principal than that of say a stock holding co.'s . Trust me I speak first hand when I state that before any sum of capital( great or small ), that you personally contribute physically leaves your possession and you were not proffered in advance satisfactory legal confirmation of and precise details of holder's agenda it simply can not be trusted. These procedural practices should occur and be established before anycurrency transference takes place. For the record, I am not interested in sabotaging this seemingly genuine cause, on the contrary I view it as a rather positive effort that will possibly provide many altruistic hearted sufferers the rare ability to exercise a restored sense of empowerment. I believe that most of us would hope to make a positive change if they were given an honest opportunity.

Python doesn't know how to read. where do you see I am glorifying her, in fact I did not describe her abilities in any way. It is people like you who make this forum a girly chit-chat salon rather than a place for action. If you read my email you see very well that I am trying to push others to start with this, not me. But I am frustrated that no one is doing it. Probably because of naysayers like you.

Benjt, you are exactly right. It is HOW to do this in a transparent, trustworthy and effective way that is KEY.
But this is not an insurmountable issue. It could be setup in a way that contributions to science are made ONLY after a vote that involves all who have donated, with votes being weighted by contributions. So you need someone who is on this full time especially in the beginning, we need someone educated and has a degree in biology if not more (there are some of these guys around on the forum), and we need a board, to discuss the strategies. And then everything else happen through the board proposing to shareholders the strategy which they would vote on.

For example, you first raise the money making clear and legally binding that the manager cannot spend the money without votes. Then there will be discussions. Once the group has raised say 1million+ the representative could request meetings with people in Columbia, Upenn, or even China to discuss the potential donation and WHAT would they do with the money. The board might for example decide to donate one million to this, and another million to that, they submit the proposal to the shareholders and there will be a vote.

Alternatively, to make it easier, people can vote for a board from Hair loss forums (say 10-20 guys) with only a couple being involved in day to day businesss, and the foundation could be setup such that these guys should decide what to do with the money, hoping that the people selected are honest and educated enough... I prefer the first option (direct vote) but more complicated

I respectfully disagree. Post fund drive objective(s) before money campaign. It established credibility and integrity from the start.

Because she has nothing to do with this, that's why. You have zero reason to bring her up, zero. Nice try making yourself look better you condensing a**h**.

ID Walker: I was posting ideas, feel free to disagree, or suggest other of how it could operate. I am NOT proposing for me to do this, I thought about it and hinted earlier that I might be open to that, but the last post I retracted it since Python reminded me what kind of people I would have to deal on a daily basis... I much much rather be bald.

Heck with money going to R&D. Set a goal so everyone can compete. First company/homebrewer to regrow hair better than finasteride with 0 sides gets the dough. I don't want some slug sucking on my money. What if advancements in PRP or Acell could do it? I've talked to a few hair transplant surgeons that say prp gets the same results as finasteride.
