I'm not surprised at all actually. I believe a loss of attraction is very common, maybe especially for men. I recently read a study where men and women from 20 years of age and up to seniors were asked what age they find the opposite sex the most attractive. The results? Women found men of the same age the most attractive all their lives, while men - no matter what age, found 20 year old women to be the most attractive. Yet many men stay with their wives, maybe it's because they have no other choice, but it could also be because they've built a life with her, and that they don't want to lose that.

@EvilLocks Another thing to consider is that people are different hence may seek for different things. I am a very dominant man by nature. Even in sex, I have to be the one doing all the work. Attachment takes time to develop, not compatibility, unless by "compatibility" you mean not always fighting. But you need to be attracted to an individual to spend enough time to be attached. Hence I said, long term relationships are built on attraction and attachment.

I know many intelligent women, especially in Indian/Nepali community. But pretty much none that I will consider dating. That was my experience in India as well. Full of intelligent women, but I very, very rarely saw an Indian women I found hot enough to date. I can only think of two or three among thousands of Indian women I saw.
