I wouldn't put it down to a moment, and I wouldn't put it down to just bald guys either, but overly confident young men can have a very difficult adjustment to the real world as they get older.

That reminds me of a friend who suffers from type 1 diabetes.

"It's horrible, sometimes I'll be with a girl, and then I'd feel tired (hypoglycemia)!"

Yeah, I'd switch with him in a heartbeat.

No, diabetes is sh*t.

God thanks I have no this genetic decease. Eventually they get their legs/hands amputated because of inner rotting...

No, thanks.

Sorry, Fred, dislike for this.

You make the mistake of applying the culture of the UK/US to the rest of the world.

We're just not as obsessed with looks and physical flaws here in Belgium.

The UK is not even close to how superficial US culture is with regards to looks. Completely mainstream for people to be balding, overweight and not take care of their skin/teeth compared to US. Also the type of comments you say fly about your office about this bald guy would simply not happen in office environments I've worked in.

The first part, my knee-jerk reaction is to say this is a generalisation, but you do have a point on the face of it. I think it depends on what "tier" or level of sociability a person aims for, and in America those who are 7+ Gods and Goddesses, you will often find they won't even be seen with average people.

As for the second sentence about Fred's office...

The day someone will point out where they've seen that mythical NW0 on the Norwood scale...

"NW0" is clearly a fleeting representation of phrase, I never see anyone refer to it seriously. In the same way people say "Norwood-1" jokingly.

"Juvenile" hairline being an NW0 is to give us an idea of how far forward we are talking, obviously it would be officially classed as NW1.

I think NW0 looks ok on some black dudes. If you're white, NW1 is where it's at imo

Norwood 1 is funny when you are young but also looks like sh*t when you are a real MAN.

Norwood 2 or 3 looks absolutely fabulous for a Man.

Name an Norwood that doesn't look OK on black dudes.

They can't all pull off the bald look, contrary to popular belief. I higher percentage than white can, but not all. I had a black friend that was NW3 and it was NOT a Good look for him. He was constantly mocked for it

NW3 and fabulous do NOT go together. NW3 is the final step of semi-dignity

Good find. The author is an excellent writer (and/or the Guardian has good editors), and i think he does a good job of describing what you feel as a hair loss sufferer researching your options.

He never seemed serious about keeping his hair: he stopped applying minoxidil because it stung, finasteride scares him because of sides, and while he did in fact take finasteride he would just forget it because he was living an urban lifestyle and crashing at others' pads. So he just continued to bald. And at the point the article was written he was NW5 and single at 24, long past the point where he can have a transplant. I would have liked to see a follow-up essay from him on how things have worked out for him.

I'd hazard a guess he's still single. Might shoot him a mail just to ask.

How is an urban lifestyle an excuse not to take finasteride? Even when I'm sleeping out I manage to take it. I can understand the challenge of applying minoxidil discreetly, but finasteride is just too f*cking easy...tiny *** pill

I have no idea if that picture of Steven Gerard is an optical illusion but just a few years later he had a "normal" low NW1 which he's kept since of course.

View attachment 43551

But by that rate of recession in 2 years he should be NW16 to his *** cheeks by now.

2 years? There's at least 10 years difference there. Looks to be 20ish in the first pic and definitely in his thirties in the second. (I'm an LFC fan)

I know we can't see his hairline but lol at this. God tier androgen receptors:

What is your new avatar, hair loss?

It's football player Kyle Walker on the left in real life, and on the right is how they made a gaming error by representing him in a football video game.

I just think the split comparison and the facial expression they used is a great shot, as if he's looking at himself. And the bald version somewhat praying.

Yes I meant his hairline went back to a normal NW1 by age 22-23 and that's what he kept into his 30's.

Oh right, I thought you were saying the second pic was 2 years ahead. Love the avatar btw.

Yes it wasn't instantly easy to find a young Gerard with the slightly more matured hairline he's had since, but I definitely don't recall him having forehead hair towards his mid-20's.

And thanks, Mr Walker isn't too impressed.
