Apparently she likes 34 year old alcoholics that look like chubby Gollum and spend two hours a day on a hair loss forum. either that, or she's leading me on.

I can't disagree with this more. We can say women are manipulative, I do believe most are. But, having had in depth conversations with hundreds of them, they are all completely different. Some are dull as f***, some are funny, smart and interesting as hell. I have been hanging out with one recently that is super smart in every aspect she speaks. She trained my dog in like two days. She's also very sensitive, thoughtful and caring.

Fred's assertion that women will put up with a lot of bullshit if you're good looking is, in general, true; however, it fails to consider a few other factors.
One being that the same can be said about men and beautiful women, though. Let's not pretend we're not willing to take one for the team and put up with some hot girl's bullshit that we'd ditch a less-attractive girl for in a heartbeat.
Where the complication comes in is that good-looking people are almost exclusively paired together. If both keep their looks up, they won't put up with each other's sh*t very long because finding another partner just as attractive as their present one is easy for both parties.
The bad-mannered, middle-aged balding guy, who's let himself go, married to a smoking hot MILF has a lot to worry about. She could easily find a guy her age, better shape, better looking and with more hair.
I have a bad feeling this may happen to a family member of mine. When was in his 20s, he was jacked, full head of black, curly hair, blue eyes, 6ft 2, and women just f*****g loved him. I always wanted to grow up to be like him and family members always told us that we looked alike. Once he got married in his late 20s, he started letting himself go. He's overweight bigtime, hairline is now starting to recede a bit, foul-mouthed, cynical and became hardcore conservative. I can see at family gatherings or when I get invited over for dinner that his wife really isn't satisfied with his decline and chastises him for what he says and does; you can just see she is not pleased with him.
She, on the other hand, is a fitness instructor, is a bit younger than her husband and looks a fair bit younger than her age...

Downside of peaking too early...lack of understanding that life as an average or below average schmo is significantly different
Even though I looked great when I had my hair I can't really speak to the issue of whether or not women overlook the short-comings of good-looking men because when I had my looks I didn't have any shortcomings.
