I think it's gotta be worse than death.

I would pick death, if it were that and more than a couple years in prison.

I would.

Did you ever watch Oz ? that was so torturous sometimes.

"For women, after the age of 25, it's the beginning of the end."

"The men I'll be very attracted to will usually be the ones that can cheat on me and often do. I know this yet I can't help it, I will be madly attracted to that kind of guy."

"My boyfriend was beyond reproach, did everything to make me happy, I still cheated on him and broke up with him afterwards. I knew it was wrong but since I wasn't in love with him anymore, it didn't feel like cheating to me."

"I know that soon I will be old (she was 26) and unattractive to most men, sometimes I think about ways to kill myself (yes, she said that). I don't see how life's worth living if men don't want to have sex with me."

And so on. When I think about the last line, I think you could say that she was borderline black-pill/female version of a sluthate guy.
And I'm sure you've quoted her word for word no doubt.
I rarely believe half of what Fred claims other people have said. Especially if he is quoting a female.

Yeah, kinda. Even though it's an island on a prime waterway, I'm sure it's hell inside.

Hahaha, "Prison must be hell" *shows picture of a prison that happens to be on a sunny island* = Point countered.

Rikers is notoriously one of, if not the worst prison in America, arguably the world. It's a supermax prison, meaning solitary is not a punishment here and there, it's permanent for most of the inmates, so 23 hours a day of darkness and loneliness, never knowing what time it is. It turns people catatonic, and unable to deal with normal social situations if they ever make it out, a huge percentage of which turn to serious drug abuse problems (including those whose crimes never involved drugs) and suicide.

So because it's permanently solitary, some could argue that it's worse than any Brazilian, Turkish or Cambodian prison, because you no longer become a human being after a while, there's no highs or lows, just your own mind and delusions. It's almost better to get some fresh air and random beatings here and there (which incidentally, still happens at Rikers).

So you're right, it's hell inside, the only time those inmates know of the sunny exterior is when they enter, and if they ever leave, but by that point simple things like a beautiful landscape won't mean much.

I'm sure Gitmo also looks pretty nice from a distance, even hell might have a certain appeal from a sunny disposition.

It varies, some get darkness, some get light, some get darkness with intervening bolts of lights to wake them up every hour. Any way you look at it is inhumane.

If you really break it down and think about it, there's no best option here, surely the best option appears to be in a cell with some lighting. But that causes more delusions, when inmates begin to study the same surroundings over and over, know every inch of a room, know word-for-word the printing on the tag of the pillow they sleep on, that counterbalances how insane they can get over being in complete darkness.

It's all just fucked, and nobody cares because convicts are treated as animals, and it's only going to get worse for the next 4 years.

My dad did 5 years in San Quentin before we moved to Canada. The hole is exactly that, a small room that fits just you sitting down in Indian position (just to get the idea of the space) for 24 hours or as long as they feel you need it. You lose track of time and days completely in there.
