Good to hear, and have heard the same about the skin effects. I was hoping once a day would be ok for minoxidil though. But now you have me curious about casto oil. Can you please explain the idea behind it a little more?
My female friend grow back eyebrows thanks to castor oil, she said that it make her hairs thick and stronger so I decided to read more about it.
One of the ingredients in castor oil is called ricinoleic acid and in theory it can inhibit PGD2, so I thought why not give it a try. I'm drinking small amounts of it (2-4 ml a day) and putting topical mixture to my scalp twice a day. I tried using castor oil alone but it's ultra messy so I mixed it with ethanol and maybe that is why I have possitive results. Unfortunately there is not much research about it, but it is working for me so I'm gonna stay with it, alcohol mixture is as easy to put on scalp as minoxidil. I head that people are using 70:30 castor oil/ethanol but I'm mixing it randomly, from 30:70 to 70:30.

I ordered zinc and niacin, I have read about niacin a lot of good things, so my final regimen will be castor/zinc/niacin, some study showed that it increase PGD2 level but here is a little quote from badtruthtalk why it is good thing
"There are two types of PGD2 receptors, DP1 and DP2 (DP2 is also known as 'GPR44' and 'CRTH2'). Laropiprant (Merck's drug) selectively blocks the PD1 receptor - Cotsarelis showed that the PD2 receptor (and not PD1) is involved in hair growth downregulation. BTW, niacin produces flushing via the PD1 receptor - the PD2 receptor is not involved in the flushing at all.
Niacin flushes PGD2 through the receptor that have nothing to do with hair loss, Niacin flush doesn't make make you lose hair, in fact it makes PGD2 less available to be used with the receptor that damages the hair. And knowing that lowering PGD2 it more important that raising PGE and PGf2a, i would say Niacin is a must for anyone wanting to keep hair, based on all the information now available."

Here is some info about niacin https://www.hairIossrevolution.com/4-ways-to-use-niacin-for-hair-growth/

Cheers.

Looks good. I encourage people to try these things, however I also have no idea as to how well it'll work. Is castor oil messy or stinky?

It doesn't smell bad but it is very thick and hard to spread. Somehow it can penetrate skin without vehicle but I think it's better to add ethanol to it because it will change consistency to more usable, although it is not a good idea to put it before going out because it will make your hair look super oily, it's best to put it before sleep or after work when you are chilling at home. If you want to try it then search for cold pressed castor oil for consumption at drugstore it's cheap.

I think you can use the three in combination without any problems. Give it a try!

I live in Canada too. I'm in Montreal and buy mine at Jean Coutu. Shoppers doesn't sell it.

I'm not sure about those brands, they look pure though. Don't hesitate to try zinc alone though, I seem to be getting similar results as I did with the b6 combo 3 weeks into my experiment now.

Interresting! Maybe we could add some biotine to boost the regrow with the zinc that stop the hairloss

Ok, I've got my zinc sulfate and niacin.
Cost: zinc 1.2$ for 100g, niacin 8$ for 100g, 96% ethyl 5$ for 250ml, distilled water 5L for 1.5$. Total = 11.2$
So 60 ml of my nacin/zinc mix cost me about 2 US$, It's super cheap and there is some science behind how good zinc and niacin are for health and hair, I'm mad at myself for not searching more about it few years ago when I still had hairs on my temples

My niacin/zinc mixture:
-3g niacin
-0.7g zinc
-15 ml 96% ethyl
-45 ml distilled water

Gonna use it twice a day. Also I'm taking 10 mg zinc and 400 mg niacin oral.
I'm thinking about adding peppermint oil to my castor oil mixture, anyone have any experience with it?

not sure what effect Biotin and or Niacin will have.

I cant make any affirmations without having tried myself. However I can say that sometimes additional items, potentially these, can render the mix ineffective. If I may recommend trying the zinc alone first. After 2 weeks, then add the second ingredient.

I just say this because you may benefit from zinc alone or zix, but if niacin or biotin make it less effective you may be giving up something good.

I think @whatevr had success with zinc alone, but with b6 added not so much. And I think @Bearded claims success zinc and magnesium, but he hasnt replied to my last question - guess he's busy trying to patent and sell it ;) - but his experience could be unique to him. That said, I tried with magnesium and things got worse for me.

Anyhow boys, dip your toes in before you jump in head first, you may thank yourself in the end, worst case is you lose 2 weeks.

So just out of the shower and I embarrassed to say that im leaning towards a zinc only solution over my zix. I say that because Ive been so adamant about using b6, that I never considered just using zinc alone. In studies comparing shampoos, there are definite improvements noted when using H&S. This mix however is much more concentrated, so maybe that's the reason for why im having much better results.

What I find funny, is there is no threads at all discussing the use of a zinc topical alone to combat hairloss. Anyhow, ive been on this a little over three weeks, and i think there is a only a small yet noticeable improvement over zix so far, but again its too early to conclude.

Another thing Ive been doing which I should add, is I dont massage my scalp as much when applying shampoo which I let sit a few minutes, and I dont spend much time under the shower head standing or rinsing, just enough to get the shampoo out. Afterwards, I let my hair dry more naturally and only pat my hair with my towel instead of rubbing. Maybe it saves me a couple hairs, i dont know, maybe not....

I'll keep you guys updated, but just wanted to let you all know in case you're curious.

I may start a new thread for a zinc alone solution if I finally conclude this is best for me.

I use 4x 220mgs of zinc sulphate (50 mg elemental) with distilled water and a splash of ethyl alcohol 70%.

@Jonnyyy @jonnywalker93 @Massive @Ardarus

Just want to update you guys, since you most recently seemed interested. I think today is week 4 of zinc alone, and i only shed 5 or 6 hairs in the shower today. Seems a little too good to be true tbh, but im seeing improved results. At one point about a year ago or so, I was losing 30-45 hairs in the shower and was over the moon when I added more zinc and got it down to 20 something.

You may want to try that for a month and see how it goes.

I was hoping to add iodine tomorrow, but I think I'd like to monitor my progress a little more before trying something new. Also some other things im doing, is i dont massage the shampoo into my scalp more than very gently, and I wait 5 mins or more before drying my hair, which I now only pat dry with my towel. I cant imagine that would do too much, but it may be helping as well.

Do you still get the thickening effect?

Well it helps marginally for styling, but the thickening effect was diminished quite a bit I suspect because there isn't as much particulate in the solution. That said after a month, I find my hair looks good now. The first days I found it looked thin, and my gf was even checking it out, but now it seems much better. Is it because my hair is thicker, maybe... It's tough for me to say, I'm just staying the course atm.

its insane to think that despite all the effort from various companies and random people exploring all kinds of ways to solve this sh*t and understand the science behind it, a person can halt their hairloss by dumping some zinc on their heads lol

Hi, worm

I have read all 38 pages :) Thank you for your story and the help with Zix!

I'm 21 years old and I have been experiencing hair loss for about 6-8 months. I think I have the diffuse type because my hair thinned at the crown area, a little bit at the forehead and my left temple is much thinner than the right one (no idea why). But hairline is OK.

When hair loss started I had significant shedding. I guess about 150-300 hairs per day. My hair was everywhere. I didn't pay much attention to it because in that time I used styling gel and hairdryer on regular basis, so I thought that they caused my hair loss.

Then, I stopped to use gels and hairdryer and noticed that my hair density didn't come back.

Couple months ago I started to feel the itch. It wasn't going away and I decided to wash my hair every day, it helped, but if I don't wash my hair more than one day, itch becomes really bad.
Currently, I use Nizoral once a week and seems like it helps. But I still think that my scalp isn't OK, it looks a little inflamed. (I have a bit hot scalp with red shade).

I'm strongly concerned about Min and finasteride.
- I don't want to start Min because it will kind of accelerate things and if I stop using it I will never come back to original state.(Maybe I'm wrong)
- finasteride, because of side effects.

Here is my short story :). So, I'm planning to try Zix.

Have couple questions:
1) Do you have any information about positive results from guys who have diffuse AA?
2) Idea. Did anyone think about combining Zix and finasteride? For example, use Zix every day and add finasteride once or twice a week?
3) Also, I have the suggestion (maybe useless). Could you please record the video with instructions how you prepare Zix when you will have time? I think it could help some newbies like me :)

Thanks in advance!
