Hi,yes, by 2 dermatologists - I was only 20 or so at the time too and still had an amazing hairline. male pattern baldness runs rampant in my family, and I was shedding hundreds or hairs daily when i wasnt on finasteride - that is until i started using zix.

Hi @worm

where can we find your pics?

Okay cool. Another question: What made you add the B6 back in? I thought zinc sulfate alone was working for you? I am tempted to try zinc sulfate alone because the B6 stains my gray hair yellow.

well I wanted to see if was more effective. I am not fully convinced which formula is better, especially since ive receded a bit in the past months, but maybe that's just the way things go. The zinc alone did seem to be pretty effective though.

I just bought 84 cetririzine pills, not sure if that is such a great idea....

Just wanted to post an update. Been using the new formula of zix with the new B6 for a few days now. First 2-3 days didn't really notice anything. But these last two days... wow. On min and finasteride, I still shed about 10-15 hairs in the shower when I shampoo. The past 2 days I've shed maybe 2-3 hairs in the shower. Honestly did not expect it to work this quickly but clearly the results show. I'll see what happens over the next few days/weeks. I want to drop the finasteride but I'm still hesitant about losing the gains I've made

I'm going to sound like a huge buzzkill here, fellas, but shed hairs, especially in such a short time frame, are not the greatest indicator for product efficacy. You need to give any product--especially 5ar inhibitors, which Zix is supposed to be--months to work. Shedding can be caused and lessened by so many daily things, it is better to gauge your results in terms of months instead of days.

My advice is to stick with the Zix, stop counting hairs (you WILL drive yourselves nuts; trust me), take photos (the mirror reflects your mood more than the truth) and do monthly if not quarterly updates.

Just my 2 cents after over 20 years of fighting male pattern baldness.

Question for Worm: Do you have any pics of when your hair was at its worst? Would you be willing to take pics of your hair now when it's wet and combed back?

Idk when I did stop it, it was rather a gradual thing...as I said, I became lazy to apply it every day and "stopped" gradually. I'm not sure *when* (or how long after the ED cet appliance) but I started seeing my hair getting worse afterwards those good times.

Then I moved on to try other stuff like Saw palmetto, orally and topically. Didn't get any apparent results from it.

I'm trully the worst person in the world to ask for a results about any treatment because i'm so inconsistent. I'm one hell of a diffuse thinner (started noticing it at 16) and I remember to freak out at that age. Literally hours reading about hairloss stuff, being ripped off on buying sh*t snake oil, snake shampoos, all this because I made no actual research about it (it was just desperate purchases).
I remember finding a website selling propecia for like 800€ 360 pills and tought maybe one day I could earn enough money to buy that. Only some time afterwards I found that I could buy 5mg finasteride (60 pills) on my local pharmacy, and cut them in one quarter, make it it super dirt cheap.
I dropped it because I think I was getting puffy breast (curiously tho, it seemed for me that I was getting puffy breasts AFTER reading that finasteride can cause Gynecomastia... Maybe if it said that one side effect was that it would shrink my penis, then I would probably somehow see that too). Was only 1 month or so on finasteride so I can't give any feedback if it was actually good or bad. I do remember that then it was the time that I decided to only use topicals to treat my hairloss.

I'm going to give a try to Zix soon no matter how good cet might be (it's not a miracle treatment and no one ever said it was), it's all about the angles of attack of hairloss, the more the merrier.

Been using this for 3 months now, can't tell if it is working or not, but I don't think I have lost ground. I keep on getting paranoid that it might not be doing anything, and then wondering if I should use topical finasteride.

Was using classic zix - water and zinc but have changed to ethol alcohol, distilled water and zinc. With Alcohol my hair does look cosmetically thicker after applying zix to thinning areas.

Originally used, ethol alcohol (90%) and I was shedding a lot more than 70%

Currently applying zix to hairline and temples/temple points

Thanks for the 90% ethyl alcohol comment.

If you arent applying all over, how is the rest of your hair? Do you shed at all?

Yes I’m still shedding , 10-15 strands of hair a day. With 90% alcohol was shedding 30-40

How much do u use? I'm wondering if the alcohol is even necessary now. I'll try to minimize the amount I use with my next bottle. I suspect it'll be in about a week.

15ml of alcohol

How do I know if zix is working?

To be fair, I feel that with alcohol my hair looks thicker/better.

Well shedding 15 hairs seems pretty good to me.

Is this more of less than before?

Hey, I've been following this thread for a while now. This is my first post on HairLossTalk.com after being a longtime lurker, actually!

I know there are variations of Zix, but I haven't personally read anything about adding essential oils (rosemary and/or peppermint, specifically).

Any thoughts worm?

Btw, thanks for the thread!

Edit: Finally found some zinc sulfate heptahydrate on Amazon today (from the states; I'm in Canada).
