For now, I'll not recommence dermarolling. I want to find a dose that is safe for me first, given that dermarolling - among other things - also increases absorption. And by no means am I willing to go through the minoxidil side effects hell again. I actually look like 24 again, and not like 34. For the most part at least - some wrinkles still there, but eye rings vanished by more than 50%, and all my wrinkles became way smaller. My reasoning right now is that, if I find a safe dose that does not lead to an increase in side effects again, that my recovery will continue. While I have not recovered from minoxidil completely yet, I lost all my gains in hair and even more. Truth be told, I hate that and want to battle it. Should I experience an increase in my still existant side effects though I will immediately drop minoxidil again.

Once - and if - I found a safe minoxidil dose, I'll recommence dermarolling. I'll slowly work my way up, starting with 0.5 ml once a day, then 0.75 ml, and so on, and maybe even at one point 0.5 ml twice a day. 1 ml twice a day was disastrous.

why not drop minoxidil and just dermaroll? maybe dermarolling may help you keep your gains from minoxidil

If someone is getting results it's doubtful they would want to start removing things from the regime just for "test" purposes, you'd be excited and would want to keep regrowing your hair. The effects are most likely the result of many of these things in combination. That's the problem when using so many treatments, not knowing which ones are the most effective.

I agree, but the thing is he stopped many of the treatments all at once. So he contradicted the behavior you suggest of continuing everything, and he didn't cease using the ingredients in a way that would test which ones were responsible for regrowth.

Yes, it could have been helpful to know which ones were doing the best job, but realistically speaking it takes so long for results to show up in the first place that you could be looking at years of dropping this topical or dropping that topical & trying to figure out if it's had some effect, a great effect or no effect whatsoever. It's just too complex a puzzle. And you know what us hair loss sufferers are like at the best of times: not the most patient of individuals when it comes to these treatments.

It is a shame as he did have very impressive regrowth in my opinion. But again, we've got to remember...people are trying to get their hair back first and foremost. Sharing the experience & the results with everyone else is a secondary thing (and we're thankful for it). People in general don't want to be guinea pigs on endless experiments for the benefit of the rest of the forum, they just want their hair back in the quickest, cheapest, most effective way possible. I'm sure over 90% of users of these forums would be gone tomorrow if we could have an instant, easy fix for this. I don't really blame him for getting off a regime that wasn't suitable for him.

Ok so thanks to this thread i just had to shave my head. Dermarolled for the first time and that **** plucked so many hair i had to spot and shave the head (6mm). My question is... if you need to dermaroll weakly or once in 2 week whatever, how do you grow hair if you keep damaging the existing hair? Even for completely bald guys that indeed regrow hair at some point dermarolling will take more hair than it gives.

I sooner use a individual needle on my scalp choosing carefully spots without hair than dermaroll again
Ok i've switched from a 540 pin roller to a 192 roller and after 5 rolls i cuted my hair and i can't remember the last time my hair was so uniform. I had a weak spot right in the middle of my head right behind the receding line, it's gone.

When i went to work almost bald, i explained what happened, and some balding co-worker made fun of me, now after 5 weeks he is asking me where i got the dermaroller and what should he do ;)

This **** works.

Do not use a 540 pin roller if you still have a good amount of hair.

I don't understand. Why?

In people with longer hair, the hair gets tangled much more easily with 540 neddles than 192.

Anyway, interesting report, especially since you've been on minoxidil for a long time, keep us updated :)

will the 540 count damage the existing hairs though?
MY hair is longer at the moment and Im interested in trying this. Im a bit of a sadist to so maybe I will just get off on it at least lol.

The one Im looking at is 540 count 1.5mm.

In reading earlier posts its stated to avoid nizoral and minoxidil until the wounds heal as to not get bloodstream absorption. Do you guys agree with this? Whats a good wait time in between? Would the minoxidil foam be safer since it dries quicker?
thanks

I am looking into a hair transplant but since I cant take finasteride I will need other options aside minoxidil and nizoral to help with what I have.

Tonight I had to join because I am getting good results and I want to be part of this [. . .]

I felt my girlfriends scalp when I was massaging her and hers is loosey goosey. I want to get to that point.

Not sure if I have it in me to do photos yet, but we'll see.

So far the results are promising.

Congratulations, and it's good to have more results from someone who had been minoxidil prior to beginning the rolling. More importantly, I laughed out loud at "loosey goosey".

do you think its ok if you roll ur forehead too ,to use anti wrinkle cremes?Dunno if the vitamin c or hyaluronic acid will go to the temples and maybe do a bad job there?

In case anybody missed this picture in the results thread: 10 weeks of rolling by badgenetics, wow! No one gets results like this in 70 days from finasteride/minoxidil. Got to be the DR.

That's a dramatic improvement. Seems that crown is an easier area to get regrowth (compared with temples for example). Anyway, congratulations and keep rollin'!

no minoxidil, only derma roller

Greetings!
I have a very small swelling on the top of the head, like a small pimple and it seems to have a hard time healing and I gues it is because of minoxidil.
I want to stop using minoxidil for 1-2 weeks in order to alow it to heal.

1. How much time can I stop using minoxidil and not start losing my hair again.

2. By the way, I will use the (fake) derma roller (1.5mm) instead. How frequently should I use it? I will try to avoid the swelling.

Thanks!

I have lurked this forum for years but I never got an account because I am extremely sensitive about this issue and I was too uncomfortable to go to all the effort.

Tonight I had to join because I am getting good results and I want to be part of this - not a lurker.

I roll every two weeks with a 2.5mm 540 pin roller. I do it deep enough to be very bloody afterwards, not running down my face usually, but a blood red scalp.
I apply 1ml minoxidil a day (waiting 24 hours on rolling day). I worry that it makes my skin look crap.
I use Miconazole Nitrate 2 or 3 times a week (2%).
I take green tea extract, garlic and curcumin.

My results, 5 sessions in are that I have very short terminal hairs appearing at my hair line. They are around as thick as all the other hairs I already had and maybe an 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch long. There are dozens. They are probably appearing on top too I guess but I can't see there as I have long hair. Shedding has been steadily decreasing for the last 3 sessions. I am young (22) and have been losing it since 17 so my shed has been pretty much constant since then (young people lose it fast you know). I have been taking minoxidil for two years already.

If I'm not imagining these results (the mind CAN play tricks on you) then I feel I will gradually thicken my current Norwood 2.5 to normal thick level and possibly get back to Norwood 2 or 1.5 in a few years.

ADVICE TO OTHERS: The only novel advice I have is that I take a hefty dose of oxycodone before I roll. It's a strong opiate painkiller so you need a prescription or a connection I guess. It makes rolling take about a quarter of the time because the pain is nearly gone. If you have access to it I suggest you try it. This drug is DANGEROUS though so do your research about dosing and addictive potential.

MY TWO CENTS:
This definitely has heaps to do with making your scalp all soft and loose (as opposed to fibrotic). I understand all the scientific theories going on here about growth factors and stem cells and I'm sure that they are true in some way, but I just want to make the common sense point that obviously hair is going to have a MUCH easier time pushing through skin that isn't hardened and fibrotic. It can expand to be thick in a soft scalp, and I imagine that any nutrients, stem cells or whatever are going to have a much easier time if they don't have to bore through hard tissue to get to the follicle. Not very scientific analysis but seems like common sense to me. My scalp feels SO much looser and nicer since I started this. I felt my girlfriends scalp when I was massaging her and hers is loosey goosey. I want to get to that point.

Not sure if I have it in me to do photos yet, but we'll see.

So far the results are promising.

I don't understand. Why?

Breaking up all the fibrotic tissues (acceleration in epidermal turnover rate) is really important but also inducing blood during derma rolling is as important. This is why PRP is very effective to treat Androgen Alopecia.

Role of Platelet-rich Plasma in the Management of Androgenetic Alopecia

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3681120/

The beneficial effects of PRP in Androgenetic Alopecia can thus be attributed to various platelet-derived growth factors causing improvement in the function of hair follicle and promotion of hair growth. It is safe, cheap, and non-allergic and it appears to be a useful adjuvant in the management of Androgenetic Alopecia.

Anyone else have a constant itch from where they roll. Its not a male pattern baldness itch and i am not shedding that i am noticing. I am doing my 3rd roll tonight. I do use minoxidil but am not peeling or flaking. Just curious

DRing causes inflammation. So i imagine it's normal to feel some itch.

I'm still feeling massive male pattern baldness itch. If male pattern baldness is some acquired immune habit, i can't imagine this male pattern baldness itch will ever disappear from my scalp, dermarolling or not, since dht will still be in the area.
