Going though my 3rd week of .5mg Monday Wednesday Friday. Unfortunately today I had a bad anxiety attack/chest pains. I had the same kind of reaction last time I tried this stuff and actually went to the hospital cause I thought I was having a heart attack. Turned out I just had palpitations probably an anxiety attack. Didn’t go to the hospital today and tried to relax and it went away. I think I may take this Wednesday off and cut down to .25mg thrice a week starting friday. If my anxiety attacks or chest pains continue I’ll have to stop. Super bummed though because I was really looking forward to the results. Any of you had a similar experience?

I've a friend who has an older brother that suffers from anxiety and he had to take him to the hospital a couple months ago because he was convinced that he was having a heart attack. The doctors left him at the ward's waiting room for two hours and went for him later, telling him "alright, if you were having a heart attack we would have already taken you to the emergency ward, so it was all in your mind".

Maybe you could try topical finasteride? It doesn't cause any side effects for most people. That said, this is a very stressful time due to lockdown, COVID and all, that plus starting finasteride may be the cause of your troubles. Maybe taking a day or week off could be helpful. Also read experiences of guys who suffered sides with 1 mg everyday and were able to solve them by using DIM and/or Epilobium Parviflorum. I doubt finasteride can cause anxiety sides using such a low dose, and they are very rare and not documented for the most part too. All the studies related to neurosteroids were made on rats and hundreds of times higher than the 1 mg dose that humans usually take.

I have never heard of this really & don't even know how it could possibly cause that. Did you suffer from anxiety attacks before? I will say this, anxiety attacks are not dangerous, at least short term. Having 3 or 4 or even 10 would not hurt you. I suppose prolonged stress of them could be bad.

If I was you I'd stay with the 1mg 3 times a week and just tell myself it's ok, this can't cause that. Everything's ok. Think of it you've been taking it for 3 weeks how could it prompt one today just out of the blue? If it's the cause then why not yesterday, or the day before, or as soon as you took the first 0.5mg.
There's no point in cajoling somebody to stay on a med after they express serious health concerns. I agree 100 percent with what you encourage but I have seen this on Tressless over and over. finasteride is the top treatment for males and you either use it or you don't. OP still has a ton of hair anyway.

@JaneyElizabeth Wasn't conjoling him, or even really encouraging. I just said "If I was you". Obviously the OP can do what he feels he needs to do and if he is really worried then by all means stop, and take no advice from any of us.

But the OP actually said himself that he wasn't stopping, not yet anyway. I was just offering my thoughts and trying to help him think it through. Also I edited my original post to EXTRA reflect this. You missed that beforw I hit submit.
I wasn't angry or really critiquing except to say that you were right. It's just that as you know, when a person doesn't want to be bald, they will do almost anything and pay almost any price so I just have given up on trying to do anything except provide the info to the "eh" guys. He still has pretty damn good hair. Maintenance is key though, too. Goddess bless.

I appreciate all your feedback. I really want to maintain and keep taking it. It sucks that I had another panic attack I think the finasteride will stay in my system until next week then I’ll probably start back up.... if I get another panic attack (which I never have had until taking Fina) then I will stop. Or is there any other options??? I freak out over losing my hair and I know it’s slowly creeping back. Losing my hair/having my hairline starting to thin fucks me up as well. Right now is the perfect time for me to start treatment. I want to thicken up what I have, thanks again all.

you can see my hair starting to thin below....

Even with all of my gains, you still have more hair than I do and you can wear it at least semi-long. I have been fighting baldness for 36 years so that the one thing that I would leave with you is that maintenance is enough for guys like you as long as you can get past the sides. If finasteride won't work, then their are some other options you can always ask about, too.

Janey

There are other guys on here, lots even, who use RU topically to good effective. No hair restoration or minimal but yes, maintenance if it works for you. A lot of us have started supplementing castor oil which I just started so I can't say much plus I have so many meds and treatments, I don't often know what is working and hopefully it is all synergistic, lol. You could derma-roll once a week, which is a great cheap method that gives you control somewhat over your hair loss and that feeling like you wish lifting weights or jogging would work. Sort of like hair exercise in a psychological sense. It is so hard for the guys who can't find a treatment because they are living under a cloud of uncertainty and helplessness for the first time in their lives. Just imagine how it was for us in the 80's<winks

Being able to wear my hair long, successfully, meaning having it be attractive to others is my main hair goal and it might be yours. I think treatments that increase anagen time might be important but it's often hard to discovery exactly what some of these hair agents do. Some are purported to maintain, others to grow, some are for faster hair growth and some are for more time in anagen.

where the hell can I get topical Finasteride brother? That might be my only option, definitely need something legit to thick what I have ASAP. I don’t know why the regular finasteride gives me chest tightness, pisses me off.

Big compounding pharmacies should have premade topical finasteride, otherwise you'd have to get a prescription from a doctor or trichologist that details the instructions to the compounding pharmacy on how to prepare the topical. I've read here of some users who buy their topical finasteride from the italian Farmacia Parati since it's premade and delivers good results. There's also a relatively recent topical dutasteride thread and you could prepare that yourself if you get the pills but I don't know how effective that is.

sh*t seems too confusing for me. I just dropped down to .25mg 3 times a week, if I have the same chest pain issues again I’m going to stop, I’m trying to fight through it. I don’t know much about the topical finasteride/applications etc. I’m praying this works for me and I can continue to take the oral finasteride!

Good luck. I hope you can continue to take it too. I does sound like these chest issues are panic attacks as I’ve never heard of anyone experiencing these symptoms before.

still had some chest pains from the pills. Do you think this stuff will work?:

Or should I get the one with 6% minidoxil? I wanted to shy away from minidoxil because of the long term dependency on it.

I've read quite a bunch of people here who use Minoxidilmax, so it should be a good brand, although you may want to read a bit more about it just in case, since I don't use topical finasteride. It's sad that you're still getting chest pain from the pills.

Yeah minoxidil is a lifelong commitment so avoiding it if you're not planning to stay on it long term is a good idea.

I know dude, it sucks. I wish I could keep taking it but whatever. I feel like my hair isn’t horrible but I know it’s creeping so I need to find something to keep it or thicken. Don’t you have to just keep upping the dosage of minoxidil over time? That’s my biggest concern. If not I’m open to it, just don’t want to have to keep upping a dose as time goes on.

Nah upping the dosage isn't necessary, in fact there aren't any studies that prove anything over 5% is worth using. But once you start it, you gotta stay on it forever since quitting it could cause a big shed and your hair may not come back, even if you go back to using minoxidil eventually.

Alright brotha, I just ordered that topical finasteride by itself no Min. I will let you know how it goes, thanks for the input.
