I mean absolutely no disrespect when I say this Joan, but it matters very little to a 23 year old man, that eventually, maybe in her 30s, 40s or 50s, women are less bothered by hair loss and appearance. He wants to date young women, probably 18-25, and for them hair loss is often a deal breaker. Waiting for middle or old age, when everyone's looks are declining and everyone is past the youthful life stage, is just not an option. Nobody wants to be the guy women settle for after they've had their fun in their youth and their looks are fading.
To go bald young is to miss out on a key life stage, young adulthood...
I agree, and if Dante used "woman" instead of "women," I would not have replied. EL and I are the only two regular female posters here, so I assumed he meant me as well.

Are you guys on any meds? Would you consider hair systems?

I've been using minoxidil for two years, without success. I'm afraid to stop it, though, because maybe doing so will exacerbate my hair loss, or maybe it did help ever so little and I might have actually been worse off without it. I tried spironolactone for several months but never got up to 200 mgs. I noticed some weight gain around the midsection and stopped it. I read that other women experienced weight gain as well, even thought it's a diuretic. Anyway, I was never comfortable taking it due to the increased risk of breast cancer. I don't think hair systems are a consideration; they'll be a necessity down the road.

You really shouldn't take opinions of a 23 yo balding woman seriously, who would rather spend a fortune on supplemental hair than having thining hair, when it comes to dating and hair.

haha

Dante, I have no clue how girls your age truly feel, but there does come a time when women notice a face before they notice hair. Even a face doesn't matter as much as it did at one time. I think EL has been honest with her feelings about baldness too.

Well, they notice the face and THEN they notice the hair, and immediately cringe at the thought of a suitor who could nest a family of Robins in his decaying, crypt-keeper esque bird's nest. I know. I am 34 and just a year ago women would smile and wink and so on... they still do, IF they look me dead in the eyes.. but, the eyes gradually go right up to the deteriorating rat's nest. It's disgusting. Life is complete bullsh*T. Give up on romantic and social happiness @Dante92 and just use your wit to become that badass that everyone will remember.

You know about younger women, yes. By the way, how're things with that woman you just met?

You are too funny--"deteriorating rat's nest." I'm not laughing at your perception of your hair or your mental state, just your analogies. :)

Have you tried estradiol? I can't believe the meds that men on this forum are on. Sounds extreme.

No, and I'm wary of that too. If I didn't have kids, I'd probably be more aggressive with meds. I'm crossing my fingers that something safe and better than the current options will come about before I need some sort of helper hair.

I don't think my hairline can hold on for another 6 months. I have to give spironolactone 200mg and nizoral a few months tho

How about adding minoxidil? Also, did you say you were diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia? It seems that some women who start/stop birth control experience hair loss. I've also heard the morning-after pill can have that effect too.

I tried it for 1.5 years two years ago. It helped slow down my shed for a few months, didnt regrow any of my hair. I can't think of anything else apart from Androgenetic Alopecia. I never had excessive shed (shed is always under 150). I am healthy. Men on my mother's side are balding. Acnes started a few months before the start of Androgenetic Alopecia. And before that, I had a bout of Telogen Effluvium where I lost 350 alone after shower. Then it stopped after three months. I guess that might have triggered Androgenetic Alopecia. It's been three years so I'm kind of certain it's Androgenetic Alopecia.

Have you tried Saw Palmetto? A lot of women on soulcysters had success with it. I ordered some online. If the combo of spironolactone, sp and nizoral don't work, im shaving my head and wearing hair system.

Thinning hairline is ridiculous I am actually considering going on holiday again to tan my hairline.

I did try saw palmetto not long after my hair loss started. It didn't help at all. If your hair isn't short cycling or you're not shedding miniaturized hairs, maybe it's not Androgenetic Alopecia. My high sheds (300+ hairs just after washing and styling alone) are maddening, and I've been tempted to buzz my hair and get a wig on more than one occasion. I'm glad I didn't, though. I'm going to hang onto my hair as long as possible. Maybe try Toppik for the hairline if it's not too thin? Maybe we should continue this discussion in the women's section!

After hairloss, I know when it's ok to say things aren't ok if they really aren't. A lot of women in female hairloss forums keep saying how women can be beautiful bald. Yeah, they might still have a pretty face but a bald head is awful. It's really no point sugar coating things

lol funnily enough black women look great with their shaven heads, white women look just as terrible bald as white men.

bald-head-black-women.jpg

Why are white people cursed to look so terrible bald? I doubt other cultures and races even care about baldness.

Brown people do care about hair loss and it's a matter of great shame even for men, let alone women. I am talking about brown men in Indian subcontinent though. Not sure about South American brown men.

The comic is very telling. Soul bearing stuff. and his asian ex deserves all the insecurities that come with the misfortune of being cheated on. No doubt that young hipster jackass will run off with a younger white chick and kick yoko to the much deseved curb.

ahh the dichotomy of the jaded and maligned dante against the congenial and well meaning buckthorn. Such a rich and rewarding tapestry of colors on the forums of late. Like watching a moving oil painting... captivating!

I learned a new word today: "jaded": "The end result of having a steady flow of negative experiences, disappointment, and unfulfillment fed into a person where they get to the point where their anger circuits just sort of burn out and they accept disillusionment." There is no italian word that can convey such a complex meaning. I f*****g love the English language, thank you. But I wouldn't say I'm maligned, I'm just very bitter and depressed.

You're right, diversity makes this forum a great place indeed and offers interesting stories and comparisons.

P.S.: he's neither congenial nor well meaning towards me.

English is a very beautiful language in that basic English competency can be achieved very easily, but there are greater and greater precisions of meaning to be achieved as one's vocabulary improves.
