Interesting - from a UK perspective there isnt much difference in terms of race between an Italian and a Spaniard - they are both white.

But I think this is much different in America. Also, I think the Spanish speaking people in America tend to be a lot darker skinned than our European Spaniards - maybe this is why they are seen as such different in terms of ethnicity

Latin America is Different than Spaniards.

If you do a DNA on Latin Americans they either trace back to Europeans or Indian/blacks of indigenous people.
Thats why a lot of the 'hot' actresses or sex symbols from Latin Americ are mostly trace back to European.

Thats why I was debating with PJ about Latina women months ago and he accused me of being ignorant..because he was saying that Latina women in the home countries are less discriminatory towards men about looks and that they are hot for blonde or white men..this is untrue of most I have met but the ones I have met are hot and financially secure even affluent. And some women from Latin America that are financially secure look down on N. American men. (and women, people in general they can be a little arrogant about same things all people with good income can be.)

A lot of my friends from Latin countries who are hot have a lot of european blood and good amount of them are blonde with light eyes. They are mixed.

There is this 'fantasy' a lot of men have about going to a South American woman and hooking up with someone who looks like Sophia Vagara--it ain't going to happen anymore than a 'hot' woman in North America would be into them..Unless its the money or status of an American or European because they are dirt poor.

In a lot of these countries its two tier system of money and class..the 'better' looking women and men tend to be the more prosperous ones. Not always but a good amount.

I know I will probably get slammed for this as if I am stereotyping to being racist but it is just truthful.
I happen to know a lot of hot people men and women from Latin America who are very discriminating about looks just like all women.
The only difference I had with these people is that they were not as independent socially as here in USA..they always went out in groups and a lot of guys from their families (cousins brothers etc) would go out with the women...THIS may have changed this is like 20 years ago.
I know when my sister used to visit friends in Venezuela she would stay on 'compounds' in their homes..they could not go out with out escorts and NO they were not drug dealers they onwned a lot of real estate and were wealthy and in danger because wealthy. They were Greek and Venequalian and had blue eyes dark skin and light brown hair.
this was a while ago now so it may have changed but I know even when I would go out with these girls i MIami==they were always appalled if I would talk to men they did not know..i mentioned once to a guy the area of Miami i lived in and one girl was freaked out about this--because in their countries they were taught not to do this.
They were a tight kind of click. I guess 'socialites' in a way.

I think that went on for a while with irish and italian even towards one another...NOT anymore but it my Mother had brought someone Irish home in 1950s my grandparents would have been appalled.

When I was in school it was already normal for Italian and Irish to get along BUT there was always this kind of like negative stereotype between two as if one thought better then the other.
Same with Jewish same with polish same with E.Europeans.
There was always this side-eye as 'other'.
I think it just stemmed from so many ethnic backgrounds being crammed in together..so you go two blocks this way or that way in another hood.
People really hated Irish here for a long time.

I only ever experienced real 'racism' once from a man in Florida in 'swamp' country...he called me a 'yankee WOP ' and spit at my feet LOL i was like 16 I think. I think he only knew i was Italian because I was wearing a Tshit that said something about Italians and NY--cant remember what the slogan was..And my friedsnw with me were S. American and speaking spanish so di not help situation.
But he was really a stereotypical 'cracker' the way he looked so it was not like a big deal just thought he was kind of old and crazy.

If you google I am sure you will find a lot of documentaries about it and books it was a huge part of history for USA. May have been exaggerated in NY because of ellis island and tenements etc...but if you were Irish or Italian and moved to Nebraska in the 1930s you were not welcome with open arms.

I think the film 'Heavens Gate' also talks about it in the West for the post civil war years with immigrants and settlers. I think in that film it was Dutch people who were being discriminated against.
Micheal Cimino was a bit 'mad' though so I don't know how much is accurate to history but it's a beautifully filmed film I have not seen it in many years though.

In my experience most races do seem to generally self segregate. At least in a social sense.
Minority races are also encouraged to maintain their restrictive social and religious values.
It's valued as somehow "cultural enriching" to the heathen white political, social order.

The onus only seems to be on the white race to open up culturally and spiritually.

I never heard it as 'white' cops i have only heard it as 'cops'.

In my opinion its more of a 'union' thing with the cops and its training.

SOME cops I know personally-who i grew up with--are pretty racist white guys Italian and Irish guys...so there is racism to at least some degree---its not to say these guys are going out looking to shoot innocent black people.
BUT I know for a fact from one of there wives--when they want overtime--they will pick up a black guy on a bogus charge just to run OT...Doubt they would do this to a white guy.
