Putting Avodart To The Test. At Least 1 Year.

Keep at it, your regimen looks impressive and I'm fairly confident when the 1 year mark comes around you will be happy with your commitment. Doing 1.5mm every other day seems a bit extreme (most ppl only do it once a week or every other week), but dermarolling as a whole is pretty new, so maybe this routine will have similar/better effectiveness.

Most people have thin/miniaturized hairs at the hairline, so if avodart/minoxidil is working, it makes sense for shedding to occur there with regrowth later on. Anecdotally speaking from what I've read, minoxidil should show effects within 3-6 months. Avodart is less clear, but I feel, like ppl have stated earlier, that the only way to gauge its effectiveness is to give it a full year to see its impact (same goes for finasteride).

Also take photos!! If not to share, at least for yourself. Sometimes it takes looking at what your hair looked like a full year ago to see if there has been improvement. Don't let hair length/lighting impact your analysis either

Thanks for your reply, I hope your right and I'm going in the right direction here.. I've spoke to my doctor about adding topical finasteride would my hair benefit? Surely that would help me.

Here is my hair 7th February 2019.
Just washed with keto 2% combed back and in bathroom lighting using phone flash.. please only constructive criticism I feel sh*t enough especially the hairline basically disappearing. Thanks

Maybe I'm missing something, but the fact that your hair looks like that wet with flash... I mean, I'm kind of confused as I don't even see any signs of thinning. Everyone has "baby hairs" along their hairline; I live with a few female roommates and was kind of surprised to learn that one of them would pluck them. You know your hair best though, so if you think your hair isn't as dense as it was in the past you're probably right; most would not even consider you to be balding though imo

Theres no harm in adding topical finasteride. I'd say, if anything it will help prevent further thinning if it were to ever occur.

Can I expect what I've lost during dutasteride (around hairline) to grow back? Presuming these are weak hairs anyway but surely they could grow back?

Man, you're NW0.5

I've been fighting hairloss for about 5 years maybe even abit longer. My hair loss was self inflicted I took rediculous amounts of steroids over a 5 year period. My temples are thin and my hairline isn't dense anymore. I'm literally obsessed with my hairloss. Does my f***ing head in.

Can you post a before photo as close to prior starting Dutasteride?

Yeah should have lots on my other phone I'll post them in the next day or two. Compounding pharmacy added topical finasteride to my orders. Will start this next week.

Just a general comment. Be aware that Avodart has a long half life. I understand that when you switch over from Propecia to Avodart you have no effect for the first weeks as it has to build up in the system first. Propecia in contrast has a half life of just a few hours. This means you suddenly may lose hair.
If you are in an agressive hairloss state during the transition period you may get dissapointed. I dont know if using both in parallel during that period is a good idea.

Overall, for me Avodart was a present from god.

Do you reckon it would be smarter of me to wait maybe another 3/4 months before deciding to add topical finasteride? What was your experience with avodart?.. did you see progress by month 5/6?

After switching from Propecia to Avodart, I noticed increasing hair loss. That stopped after around 2 to 3 months. The hair lost returned plus a bit more. Since then purely maintenance. I am grateful for that. It probably would have been more successful but I lost hair decades ago. Thus nothing to rescue. Having said that, recently I added treatments. Have a look at my regimen. I hope I obtain synergies. If not peace of mind that I have an alternative if Avodart loses efficacy one day. For me the only solution really are the products that are tested right now eg Sisheido. But I can live with my status quo at the moment quite well.
Re. topical finasteride..I have no experience or knowledge. But I guess that when you are using Avodart there is no need for fina.

Three things:

1) Do you have before pictures? And I'm not talking about the photos from Feb 6th. It's the only way we have to know if there was a progress or not.
2) Looking at the photos now your hair looks very good, I really don't understand, I don't see anything, not even any sign of of thinning, but hey.. you know your hair better than we do.
3) Regarding your question, did you even read the previous posts in your thread? Apparently not. There is a user (who also made the change from finasteride to dutasteride) who told you that at 6 months began to have a massive shedding and warned you to have patience and continue with the treatment despite that because then things get much better. Twice he said it.

im going ignore the fact your being a little pr**k about that post. All I asked was is it normal, nothing about previous & how can I give you previous pics from dust before that date, that's my start date. As I said finasteride worked well but I felt it was losing its effectiveness.

First 6 months and it was a f*****g nighmare. As a diffuse thinner i was really vulnerable to the slightest change in density.

Then it stabilized and im quite sure, given my strong genetic predisposition, without avodart it would have been game over for me really fast.

Last november added dermarolling 1.5mm two times per week + minoxidil 5%.

Best decision of my life without any doubt.

As a diffuse thinner how do you manage derma-rolling without damaging the longer hair? Bought one but think I did some real damage to my temples.

For long hair maybe you should consider a dermastamp.

Update - my shedding has literally stopped. I loose a normal amount of hairs daily nothing worrying. A lot of vellus hairs have turned terminal around my hairline, hair feels more denser, small things I've noticed is my hair grows so quickly.

As for side effects first few months I was extremely tired all the time that passed. Brain fog also.

This forum seems abit dead but I'll keep posting once a month.
