If you've had 3 hair transplant's and will need 5 more then you need to get a new surgeon.

S.a.f's Right on that one, we are not the norm. The majority of hairloss sufferers are bothered by it, but they move on. They will always miss the hair they had but unlike most of us it doesn't bother them enough to go on and on about it. To put their lives on hold waiting for a "cure" To live life differently based on such a cosmetic unimportance.

Heh, I have pretty good hair ATM (23-24 y/o), but if I looked better than I do shaved it´d have to go and I´d be happy with it.

However, in my opinion I need my hair for my overall look.
Maybe instead of hair transplant I could do some plastic surgery or something to be more fit for the shaved look.

All in all, im not ashamed of potential future massive hairloss (have some early signs) in itself. That doesnt bother me. Its the overall look im concerned about.

Isn't that the only reason any of us are concerned about, how male pattern baldness will ruin our "looks"? sh*t, I need hair for my overall look too, but where is it? It sucks having to live everyday with this idea of an alternate you with a full head of hair that looks better, well respected and is more successful in life with everything from career to women because of this one little difference.

Back to what was mentioned earlier. I agree with who ever said most people on this forum arn't normal.

I definately have BDD but at least im aware of it. Im not only obsessed with my hair but many other aspects of my physcial appearance. Its not a good thing really. I wish I was not so vain. I actually wish everyone was blind. It would be a much better world where people were judged on the content of their character than how they look.

Youre probably right.
I care to much as well. One of my biggest fears is pretty much having people look at me and think "lol, thats ugly".

Thats pretty much the only reason im sometimes afraid to get older as well - looks.

I think one problem is that im in the damn middle all the time. One day I look really good and have girls around me for looks alone - but a few slight chances and Im almost "ugly". Hair or no hair would probably bring me from the "good looking" to the "ugly" crowd, wich sucks of course. But yeah, wish I didnt care so much about it.

I think that is true in most cases.

I'm sure I have some BDD when it comes to my hair and other things.

There are two things i Have that really bother me. And both are not "in my mind though". There are other features I dont like but it's not something I like hide myself from. The only thing I really HIDE is being bald.

If I have a pimple on my face, I notice it but I won't like stay home because of it.

They say beauty is subjective, but for young people the parameters of what looks good and is acceptable is very specific. It is not a mystery for instance that teenagers can be the most petty, shallow, materialistic, judgmental creatures on the planets surface. What I hate are adults that for one reason or another never grew out of that teenage mentality and find it just as amusing to make fun of me for my baldness and tell me that I'm inferior. If you took every mans hair away from him ala male pattern baldness, very few of them would be able to pull it off and not look "ugly".

BDD is far more than the perception ugliness. BDD is for people who would like to be handicap.

Some people here are using BDD for vanity and pride.

The shallowness of teenagers really pisses me off as well. Just because they have youthful thick hair, full plump lips, flawless smooth skin and slender bodies they are idolized in the media in pretty much every country, as what all people should look like. And the vast majority are VERY shallow. When I was 16 I never thought in a million years I would be dealing with hairloss, wrinkles and just ageing in general. But the good news is their time will come, you can't stay young forever!! We all get old. :woot:

I agree. I mean, I consider myself kinda ugly but I don't think I'm even nearly as ugly as I think... it's hard to explain but I know I have BDD. No one has ever told me that I'm ugly, it's just how I see myself. I see my nose as this huge round thing in the center of my face although I kinda realize that it isn't that abnormal. But what can you do... it's just the way I see it. My perception of myself also changes even during a single day. I can look handsome in the morning and ugly in the evening depending on a lot of things, the mirror, lighting and everything. I have no idea which perception of myself is the truth... I guess it's somewhere in the middle.

Ha! The exact same thing happens to me depending on which mirror I look into.

A real classic case of BDD has got to be Michael Jackson. Now that is taking it to extremes but its the same basic principle. He saw himself as being to dark skinned, nose to wide and large etc. When in reality there was nothing even wrong with how he looked. Sad.

BDD is a mental disorder that is a bi-product of an overly vain, beauty oriented culture. The cosmetic/fitness/ plastic surgery industries are obvious evidence of this.
