To the guy who said he takes 1.5 hours to style his hair in a manner which will allow him to go out in public with some confidence, I feel you. Believe it or not, my process takes 3 hours (it can be trimmed to 1.75-2.0 hours in a pinch).

You can't imagine the damper this puts on my enthusiasm to go out in public, and on my spontaneity. It's crippling. The mental energy it takes to keep this up is enormous. Fortunately I only have to fix my hair up 2-4 times per week - the other days I'm a hat prisoner.
Would love to see a before and after styling picture of your hair.

I just ordered Blind Barber 90 Proof which apparently is the strongest matte paste, I too am sick of trying to style my hair so it doesn't look stupid because of all the thinning patches. It's annoying trying to look presentable with hair loss, buzzing it all off is not an option but I wish I could do it, not worring about my hair anymore would be great.

i suggest Hanz De Fuko claymation. Its an amazing matte clay like paste that really helps with medium long diffuse thinning hair. Well at least for me it does

Sounds great thanks for the suggestion, it's my backup option along with night.rider paste.

Single and no kids.

So I won't have the benefit of a wife who has already been thru the thick and thin with me.
At 31 i'm already seeing my first rounds of divorce so don't feel like you are missing out on much.

My closest friend has just separated from his partners and has to pay his ex £400 per month for child support. He also has to pay for rent on a new place, pay for a lawyer, and try to keep his head out of debt.

And let me tell you, this isn't unusual. Around half of marriages end this way - and then a good percent of marriages that are still together are unhappy.

Do you spend 3 hours in front of the mirror combing it or what? I can't possibly imagine.

Either I can do something with mine or I can't... when it was too far gone I just buzzed it cause everything looked shitty.

When I got some back it only takes a minute or two to comb it in a way that looks passable.

3 hours man? Just how.

I need to get back on minoxidil, it was so easy to combover when I was using it, those elongated vellus hairs really helped in creating more density but it irritated my eyes, will have to try the foam version sometime.

I would really like to see the three hour hair style

The 3 hour time also includes washing and letting my hair air dry (the wash/dry takes about 45-55 minutes in total). That's why I said I can cut it down to 2 hours in a pinch, because I can use a hair dryer - I just prefer to let it air dry because my hair gets wavy when I use the dryer. From a dry head, my full process takes about 2 hours give or take 15 minutes. I apply a ton of concealer (Toppik fiber and spray fiber) in stages and style it as I go. I also have to clean thoroughly around the hairline to make the concealer as imperceptible as possible. I often tell myself that it's much like surgery, how careful and methodical I am about it lol. :p I actually use Q-tips and tweezers to position every strand of hair exactly where I want it. Then I apply gobs of hair spray to hold it in place.

I've actually lost a good deal of hair the past 12-18 months, because the style I keep my hair in (a sort of combover) doesn't look nearly as good/full as it did 18 months ago as my density has further decreased (even with concealers) and also my temple recession has advanced, so I can't "cover" as many areas and still make it look full. It's becoming very difficult. I'm also pretty sure that using the amount of concealer I do is making my hair worse, because as you apply it and comb through, it pulls on the hair very harshly, and my hair falls out very easily. I'm pretty sure my rate of hair loss has increased in the past 18 months after being constant for 20+ years, and I feel it's likely attributable to these concealers (the spray fiber in particular).

As for why I go through all this, it's partly for the same reason everyone here wants to save/make their hair look fuller: because hair loss sucks. And some - probably the larger part - of it is because I am incredibly self-conscious and in no small part vain. Not conceited (I don't feel I am better than anyone else physically or otherwise, nor do I judge people on those factors), but yes, vain - I care a lot about how I look.

Well, you're lucky. Some of us aren't.

Oh man. That's exactly how it feels - crippling, ESPECIALLY the ability to be spontaneous like you said. I've declined quite a few trips with friends over the last 5 years because of it.

The last couple weeks I've stared in the mirror long and hard wondering if this was the moment I was gonna buzz it off. I haven't worn hats since I was in high school and have never looked good in them nor do I look good with a shaved head. I just remembered I have a birth mark on the top of my dome too.

I've had my days where it's tipped into a 2 hour process. I've got to get it situated in such a way that all the worst of the thinning areas get proper coverage.
  • Apply volumizing mousse to my wet hair
  • Apply hairspray
  • Blow dry my hair
  • Flatiron my hair on the top
  • Brush everything out and apply more hairspray
  • Work in my matte paste
  • Brush through again
  • Add concealer and brush that through
  • Fuss with my front right area where I'm thinning the most
  • Apply final round of hairspray
It's awful man. I f*cking hate it. Nothing like leaving the house first thing in the morning already feeling like sh*t about myself.

I barely go out anymore and I still didn't reach NW2 but my hairline is diffusing and my crown too.

Thank you for the kind words.

It's crazy to think how long this has been going on. I noticed as early as 2011 and yet still I never went to go see anyone. I swore I would do the research and eventually make a decision - but it's become paralysis by over-analysis topped with insecurity. I've done some premature scouting of pricing for FUE over the internet.

I will say that luckily for me I have extremely thick hair in the back and higher up on the sides. In high school and college I used to get teased sometimes because it kind of looked like a mushroom from the thickness when I had my hair longer. The primary concern for going thru with FUE is the Finasteride requirement. My testosterone (serum level) has been towards the bottom of the range all throughout my 30's and I'm concerned that will worsen on finasteride.

I was a mushroom during HS too, if I had cut my hair for a more fashionable hairstyle I would have had a gf, but I had that autistic 1990 hairstyle because that's how I started HS and didn't have the confidence to change it.

Ironically years later I cut it, and when I finally know how to properly cut and style it I started balding, and anything past NW1.5 is death. Im actively balding so I cant hair transplant. Also I got massive bodyhair which also ruined my life past 12. I didn't realize that I could simply trim my legs and shave my torso since years later. Even tho I still don't know to properly get rid of *** hair and dick hair (yes, I have follicles on my f*****g shaft). Trimming makes it feel like a beard, shaving is hell the next day when hairs grow, plucking is great and smooth for a couple weeks, then ingrowth hell begins.

Not to mention I always had problems trying to control my ejaculation, I can start and stop watching p**rn but this is useless with a real girl (I only f*** escorts and I c*m too fast). Nothing work, only thing left are some pills called prigily or something like that, I will try this along with cialis and see how it goes so at least I can enjoy prepaid sex.

The result: a dying hikkimori.

That's a lot of time. My mirrors would crack at that point.

Quie dramatic indeed. In Italy we use different versions of this: dead men don't tell the truth, dead men don't call the police. dead men don't pay protection money... :D

That's the only thing a bald, ugly guy should do. I did, but it's not like I had a choice, going to work is already humiliating enough, better staying safely in your apartment doing what you like.
Are you hairy, Dante?
