I've been using it for 2 years and am above baseline, so that disproves your first statement. Sure, for people who have very aggressive early baldness like yourself that won't be the case, but everyone is not you. minoxidil could work for your balding middle-aged salaryman for a while, if he were able to afford it.

I didn't say "Japanese people go bald because minoxidil is expensive!", so your second statement is also false. What I said was, "maybe in part". And that's exactly right. If few people are using minoxidil because of how pricey it is, then maybe in part it contributes to people having less coverage up top. And I didn't say it but I'm guessing that finasteride isn't used as much as it is in the west either. Not necessarily because of the price but due to an aversion to medication.

I noticed the "maybe in part" and didn't think it was ridiculous at all (especially after looking up that it's a whopping 4 times the price and also Japanese wages are a considerable chunk - 20% less on average compared to Europe and America, imagine that for a young guy on minimum wage).

But also the role minoxidil has as a positive gateway drug for many males. I don't know about culturally in Japan but for me, seeing minoxidil as a possibility on TV opened me up to the idea of it, and I took what seemed like a crazy plunge at the time.

There's probably little chance I'd have jumped on finasteride, and my hair would be gone by now, also very unlikely I'd consider a hair transplant which I definitely am now.

Anyway, are there really lots of bald guys in Japan? Or just in comparison to other Asian countries?

>Sorry I didn't mean necessarily superstitious, but naturally irrationally wary of baldness, not that there's a huge meaning they think about it other than subconscious thought.

Yeah I'll buy that, I don't think they want to be bald. At the same time though its so common that I dont think you should intentionally not go for a Japanese girl due to hair loss... they might be interested anyway.

>Also because Japanese people consistently look so young

Ya they do.

>I mean f***, half the 30 year old+ girls could pass for 22, most of the guys you can shave at least 3-5 years off their age. So when a white guy, who already looks older by Japanese standards, also has thinning hair, he's f*****g ancient, even the 30 year old chicks look young as f*** so do they want to be seen with a guy who, by their standards, is a f*****g dinosaur?

Well... most Japanese girls aren't going out of their way to date a foreigner. But the ones that are, are. And there aren't many foreigners there. So any foreigner will have a natural advantage with a lot of the girls in that group, even if he is not a... "chad".

>That's really the main thing, not superstition, not even just ugliness (but that's also important) but the huge ageing that baldness gives to a white guy from the view of Japanese people.

Ya. So I would say to that, in Japan it wouldnt be as much a disadvantage as you think for the reasons I gave above. In the west, with a Japanese native, not sure.

>Also do you have any studies on baldness per capita in Japan? I've heard it's the most bald Asian country, but still way way behind lots of Western ones.

I don't have any studies but I've heard (and seen) the same, there are a lot of bald guys in Japan. A lot.

>And from personal experience any Japanese guy I've seen has been NW1 and dense as well.

You know what? The Japanese guys you see in the west are often the cool guys. The stylish world traveler speaking English guys, who I think would be thinking more about their appearance, more likely to do something about hair loss. There are a ton of, shall we say, bookish guys, all over the place in Japan who don't care much (and rarely if ever go abroad). And this differentiates Japan from much of Asia. For example cosmetic surgery is much, much more popular in S. Korea than Japan.

Yep... it's much more expensive. And not even available in a lot of pharmacies, not the 5% anyway.

I've been to several Asian countries... China, Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea, countries in SE Asia and Central Asia too. Yeah to my eye there do seem to be more in Japan.

no genius, japanese people probably use minoxidil less than others because its so expensive, and perhaps that contributes to their having less coverage up top. whats hard to grasp about that? why do people use minoxidil if not to help keep hair over bald spots etc?
Fred has been around here a lot longer then you have, son.
Don't be a a smart ***, junior!
Also, you yourself are hardly a genius.

Give it some...

With HORRENDOUS diffused thinning at this point (keeps getting worst and worst) AND with my hair transplant scar showing. The brightest lights you could ever imagine, full sun, see through hair with a scalp painted grayish-brown with dermmatch. Last time I saw these people (a couple years ago) I literally had TWICE as much hair in the front... my feelings.

Before the wedding - "I hate this f*****g sh*t, why do I have to see people. I hate life. I feel sick"

After the wedding - I love every one and am super grateful for life.

I am sure that now I will return back in the middle of these two thought processes. But from the bottom of my heart, the feeling I had after the rehearsal, lying in bed was one of the most amazing ever.

NO one NOT A SINGLE PERSON even looked at my hair. You know me, and I am a keen observer of these things. I was waiting for it. Didn't happen. Yes, it looked terrible from every angle. diffused thinning is sickly looking.

I indulged in long, genuine conversation, laughed, cried, made people laugh.. everyone loved me and I loved them.

I wonder HOW different it would be if I had shaved my head, which honestly, I was THIS close to doing. I actually went to a barber, sat down and sternly said, "shave it, now"...

She calmed me down and said, "I think you would look good with it shaved... but you will show up with a dark tan and a white head. come back after the wedding and I will gladly do it for you."... almost like she refused.

People are beautiful. despite how horrendous you look... people are definitely inherently good.

I'm happy to hear that you had a happy moment.

Ultimately though, what this comes down to is that you look good enough to pull of the modest diffuse thinning + NW1.5 look, it has absolutely nothing to do with people being inherently good. People are not inherently looking good and the fact you'd write that is insensitive to the people on this site who suffer discrimination due to being unattractive.

You look good, even with modest diffuse thinning + NW1.5 look, and thus people treat you well. You do not look sick. Further, most people are not good norwood spotters.

You're a nice guy with a lot of talent and I'm glad you're having good experiences and that you have people in your life that care about you.

1) I've seen your photos.
2) we know that people treat you well in life, you point this out.

you've seen like three photos of me from overhead.. it's all relative, and let me point out the things you don't know..

1) i've gained THIRTY lbs since most of these people last saw me.

2) 1) coupled with finasteride use, I now have man boobs.

3) since these people last saw me, I went from the illusion of full coverage, to entirely see through across the top.

4) you can't explain why NO one commented or asked about the scar.

5) because of finasteride, my face looks tired, with circles under the eyes all the time. Never had this before I used it.

there was not a single comment, or staring or anything.. despite the fact that *I* may not look like a rotting corpse, the only explanation why out of a 100 close friends and family, no one even mentioned, "you look different" or anything at all, is that THEY are good people.

I am not saying everyone is a good person. I got lucky, and realized how lucky I am to be surrounded by family that is not completely superficial.

That is all.

The way I looked before all this, or my facial features, or ability to tan, and have a beard blah blah is completely irrevelant. What is relevant is the transformation from 1-2 years ago to now.

3) he was drunk.

I don't drink much anymore. I am not delusional about who I am, or the way people treat people based on looks. at all. I WAS attractive at one point. I am simply not anymore. How do I know for sure. Three years ago girls would stare at me, even giggle to there friends. Women approached me. Now, there is absolutely nothing. never a second look, etc.. I've also noticed that some women find me creepy, like want to leave any conversation I start with them. despite the f*****g fact that I am just a good guy with no intentions at all.

You guys can speculate all you want. You're not here and have no idea. short, see through hair exposing my bulbous head shape and weight gain have destroyed any chance I have with women. I am working on losing weight hard (down 10lbs in three weeks)... BUT, the hair loss is crushing my chances.

people i don't know treat me well because I have an intimidating presence. People I know treat me well because I am overly kind and giving. it has nothing to do with looks at all. This sounds egotistical, but it's true.

The probably treat you well because of your good looks. I'm "kind and giving" as well as extremely polite, and we all know how that turned out for me.

This is brutal.

How are you coping psychologically?

Its scary how people may treat you differently because of the looks change.

people I don't know definitely treat me differently... mostly the women. It's like they want nothing to do with me anymore.

it fucked me up for the entire last 1.5 years, but now, I am working to change it. I have been exercising every day, eating around 1,200 cals / day or less, working my job, camping all the time and every month I have been going one guard shorter.

I am f*****g tired of letting this govern my life. Women can f*** the f*** off (except pas, joan, hairblues and EL of course ;)

Good for you. I'm glad you are being pro-active.

I hate how hair loss can effect how people treat you. I don't think its happened to me yet because I'm a nw3 but its scary to think how much looks can matter.

There's not much advice I can offer, but Its good that you are taking control of your weight again.
