Nutrition is also a factor, I wasn't supposed to grow that tall (father is 1m80), I'm glad my parents always kept my diet in check.

Maybe I should tell my 1m65 girlfriend that we should get a tall surrogate mother because I'm afraid our children will be short.

After what I've read diet only really matters if you're malnourished. Even with the perfect diet it's almost only genetics that determine your height. Perfect diet and sleep through all your years of growing might give you an inch in developed countries.

I'm the nutrition thing is not well studied, but I've argued before that the nutritional variations in Western countries indicate a one or two inch variation in height in and of themselves.

Principally, Europeans are getting talker (still) but Americans are not. I did the math, and immigration is not sufficient to explain the offset.

One way in which this might happen is if excess sugar consumption causes early puberty, which in turn causes shorter height. That's two causality links with independent support.

Growth hormones apparently are only approved for the bottom 1%, and deliver only 1-3 inches of height on average.

True story: When I was 11-12, I stopped growing in height. I went to a doctor when I was 14 to see about getting growth hormones (this was before the internet). He confirmed that since my growth plates had fused, I could not grow.

I've hated my body for a looooong time.
