Well, it's the 2nd most widely-spoken language in the world. So yes, odds are most people live somewhere you will be expected to speak it.
I'll go slightly easier on you since you're 17, but
Lol, I love immigrant complaints about this; it's so absurd. Being expected to communicate with the natives of a country in THEIR language is "forced". Yeah, sorry — not learnin' fuckin' Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, or French so I can speak to people who decided to live here, or as is the modern trend, fled some third-world shithole to bring that 3rd-world to developed nations, but can't be arsed to learn to speak to the natives. The only people east or west of Quebec who speak French, only do so so they can speak to the Quebecers who refuse to learn English.
When my family came to Canada, they were expected to learn English on their own and they did. The government now offers English and French lessons and most immigrants today won't do it, but we subsidize foreign worker's wages, so when I go through the average drive thru, I get Dopinder on the mic who can't speak a god damn lick of English, but they put him on the drive-thru anyway because "diversity is our strength!"
We don't force him to learn English, and it gets harder as you get older, but damn — I wish we would.
