Re: 32 months on the big 3 and counting... (32month pics update)

On a sidenote: Changes in the hairline area require a looong time to show. I recently noticed a group or terminal hairs of very good thickness at the center of my left temple area, even lower than my already acceptable hairline. It may require several hair cycles until a follicle can grow in size again and produce hair of good quality and diameter. I am 3 years in and still see positive changes. Staying consistent with the initial regimen is vital imo as changes can take years, literally.

Do you get your finasteride from an actual pharmacy, or an online pharmacy?

have you ever had any problems with your hair line? was it ever thinning or receding? if so, do you apply anything to your hairline? minoxidil? (foam, liquid, brand or generic)?

cheers

The density of my hairline in the temple areas was not as high as in the middle, although the hairline border was almost perfect. My right temple was and is a bit higher than the left one and seemed to respond slower while on treatments. I still see minor positive changes in hairline.

The red areas stand for the male pattern baldness hit areas of my scalp on day zero. The blue dots are my two crown swirls:

I use Rogaine liquid for my temples and vertex. Have never used foam so far.

do you only use the liquid on the thinning areas or everywhere (where the hair was thinning at day zero)?

my hair are thickening up nicely, especially at the front but i have noticed that my hairline is not receded but pretty thin and i am hoping it thickens up....

in your current photos, your hairline is perfect and very thick :bravo:

I mostly hit thinning areas, but I am sure that it affects a much larger area. If you still feature active hairline follicles it is very possible that they get to be of good size and pigment. It might take more than a year though.

Have you had any side effects from taking proscar?
how come u don't try rogaine foam?
how is it like applying the liquid to a head of long hair?
so after such a long time on this regimine, which product do you give most credit for in terms of contributing to our success?

One more question, do you take your finasteride in the morning or night? with or without meals? before or after? and what do you use to wash it down with? milk?

I guess i can answer this question. Many users have had good results with rogaine liquid and switched to the foam. After that, most of them lost a lot of ground. I guess he doesn't want to take this risk, as the liquid version works amazingly for him.

Hey SE freak,
Very nc improvements ,ur hair seem to be very thick like u never had hairloss problem...
CONGRATULATIONSSSSSS
SE freak I wanted to share with u my story and I wanted to tell u ur opinion please
In the age of 18 I had lost a lot of hair, so I started using rogaine 5% extra strength for 3 months and I regrew all my hair back, and all my relatives that had seen me after so much time they thought it was a miracle. Unfortunately because of itching I made the wrong to stop it and I lost all the hair that I regrew with rogaine. Before 1 year I started again the treatment of rogaine for 4 months but no regrowth was seen,so I stopped it. Now I started again rogaine 5% extra strength(3 months on treatm), propecia(6 months on treatm) and proxiphen(1,5 months on treatm)
I wanted to ask you if my hair follicles got used to regaine 5% and they don't react , or they have died ? or rogaine 5% extra strength will need more time to regrow my hair?(I mean more than 3 months that I am using it now, because the first time I used it ,in 2,5 months it had regrew all my hair)

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Take a look at this diagram, it is not about actual haircounts but rather about the relative effectiveness of different treatments and the no-treatment option. The original version of the graph was done by Tynan (a very active and -I believe- charismatic member of this community) after discussion with Bryan and other HairLossTalk.com members.

You will see that using minoxidil and stopping it does not really destroy your follicles, it just "reveals" your true (baseline) scalp image. It is very important for you to realize that being on these kind of treatments is something that you have to bear for as long as you want to maintain and not a short-term lifestyle change till things get better. This one you cannot kick under the bed. Carrying the burden of discontinuing your treatments is not productive. What is trully productive is to see that there is no point in getting on treatments with amazing results for 3 months and then stop, or expecting to regrow in 4 months and give up. You are not 18 any more and you will respond differently.

That said, I believe that you are following a combination of treatments that can potentially offer amazing results when followed consistently. Stay on your regimen, make sure that you get a good idea of the mechanisms behind hair growth and hairloss treatments, do not change a thing till a year has passed. My guess is that a good responder to minoxidil, will still respond to it after some on and offs, especially when combined with an extremely potent inhibitor. Watch the graph for the relative effectiveness of the superior finasteride-minoxidil combo.

Do not get disappointed, get smarter and ,hopefully ... hairier.

Re: 32 months on the big 3 and counting... (32month pics update)

Tnx SE freak for ur very useful information, now I feel more confident for my regimen

But I wanted to ask two more questions

1. Do u think that it's better to add retin-a once a day before rogaine to make it more effective? as the first time I used rogaine regrew all my hair because I heard that it triples the absortion and effectivness of rogaine, or it's better to use rogaine alone without retin-a as I used it the first time and it regrew all my hair.
2. The fact that I use proxiphen that also contains minoxidil do u think that makes reaction with rogaine 5%? or it's better because it helps rogaine

Tnx again,
Chris

I would say, keep your regimen simple for now, so that you can easily stay on it . Then if it does not give satisfactory fruits, add to it. I have no experience with proxyphen and have not done my homework on retin-A, so I have no suggestions here. I cannot see how adding more minoxidil to the mix (if proxiphen really contains it) could jeopardize your results.

Are you cutting Proscar into 5ths and taking 1 mg? Also, do you use generic or real Proscar?

Re: 32 months on the big 3 and counting... (32month pics update)

I actually started doing these Scalp Exercises in the last week and I think they are great. I was able to pick it up somewhat fast. I'm doing something a little different though. I'm actually holding my scalp with my fingers so that when I do the exercises it is creating more resistance and generating more blood flow. I'm not sure if there is a connection but my shed that started almost a month ago has subsided in the last 3-4 days. The last few days I'm not noticing many hairs at all in the shower or the sink. And overall my scalp feels much better. I'm going to continue with it and see where it goes. I would suggest really suggest trying the exercises with the resistance, my occipital muscles feel pumped after 10 minutes of doing this. has anyone else here done this?

I do so too, resistance adds much to SE. Give this a shot: http://www.hairloss-reversible.com/disc ... #POST20030. It still gives me the burn when I feel like it.
(BTW i dont think that bloodflow is somehow connected to hairgrowth, the scalp has a super blood supply by default)

I'm not sure if there is a connection but my shed that started almost a month ago has subsided in the last 3-4 days.
What you notice today was your follicle reality 2-3 months ago. Keep this in mind when trying to lead yourself to conclusions regarding effectiveness. (In other words, if the SE was effective for you-hypothetically, it would stop your shedding in a couple of months from now at least).

And overall my scalp feels much better.
I am sure about this. Mine felt better too when I first started.
